8 week check - 75th Centile question

HI Girls,

Fin had his jabs and 8 week check today. He's in the 75th centile for head circumference and weight.

Can anyone tell me what this means?

i think, but dont quote me!, it means that he weighs more than 75 percent of other boys his age, and 25 percent weigh more than him x

Hi Alio

Centiles are statistical charts which plot your LO's growth and are based on averages of other babies.

I have found this quote which may explain it better than I can:

"If a parameter such as height is on the 3rd centile, this means that for every 100 children of that age, 3% would be expected to be shorter and 97 taller. On the 97th centile, 97 would be shorter and 3 taller."

Hope that makes sense?

It doesn't mean he is overweight/underweight though. It is all relative to his height as well.

it pretty much means hes a healthy baby hun i dont go by the charts cause i end up thinking should he be here should he be there and i get frustrated

Hi Alio!

At his 8 week check, Tristan was on the 75th centile for height, weight and head circumference as well. The doctor said that was great - as this meant that he was in perfect proportion.
