Hi there :flower:

I know there are a couple of other topics on the subject of hungry baby milk but I dont feel that they answer some of my questions so if you can, please shed a little light on it.

What is hungry baby milk?

Where can it be purchased from?

Who makes it? (i,e sma/cow & gate etc).

What is it used for and why?

What are your experiences of using it?

What are the Pro's?

Any Cons? >>>> Are there any side effects? (Such as constipation/IBS/Colic/Sickness etc).

My little man is draining 6oz every 3 hours. He can have upto 9 bottles in 24 hours and drains almost all of those so Im not sure if I should try this... my mum has said that if hes taking that much it is because he needs it????

Hi, as long as your LO is healthy in himself, and is gaining weight satisfactorily, then you are right to keep feeding on demand.

Hungry baby milk can be bought from supermarkets/chemists, and is always next to the regular formula milk. It is often also called 'stage 2' milk.

The usual big names make it, most people buy the same brand they used for the 'stage 1' milk, but there are different versions.

It contains ingredients (don't ask me what!) to help keep LO full for longer, so some don't really like it as it's not really giving LO more nourishment iykwim.

My HV told me that very young babies can get constipated by it. We started using it when Evan was 4 months old, and he never had any problems. I have to say, my experience is good, as Evan was exceeding the amount of milk he needed in a day, therefore, reducing the amount he was taking didn't have a negative effect on weight gain or anything. As his bottles were more satisfying for him, he could enjoy his time in between, playing and sleeping, without being so grumpy!

I would check with HV before you change LOs milk, just to be sure you're moving on to one that is suitable for him.

Thanks for your help... he just never seems satisfied with his feeds. I'll contact HV in the morning.

Kacey is on it. She is 10 weeks old. She has been on it 2 weeks. They recomend that your baby weights more than 12lb. It made no difference to how often kacey feeds. There are so many growth spurts and things at this age.

He weighed almost 10lbs at 3 weeks so ill go the HV to get him weighed. I think I'm just going to stick to SMA for now. Thanks for your help littleblonde.
