I think there are some very real reasons for these riots, not just opportunistic theft, but a real anger that young people and others in the underclass have fewer opportunities and hopes for a future than ever. This is the first ever generation where children are not expected to do as well as their parents - fewer homes, fewer jobs, fewer educational opportunities etc. None of this is an excuse for the riots, but it's something that must be addressed once they are over in order to try and prevent this all happening again. The youth of today seem to have a complete disassociation from both the state and the majority of society. I think this is really something to worry about.

not sure about other areas but ive heard its kicking off in wolverhampton and birmingham xx

10 years old is not old enough to be responsible!! Their parents/guardians are responsible for them. I'm astonished anyone could truly believe otherwise.

I do not want to see 10-year-olds beaten with batons by adult police officers no.

BUT - Madeline, at 14 months old, knows when she goes to touch something she shouldn't (sneaky glance at me before extending her arm slowly). My 2-year-old god-daughter knows that biting someone is wrong. My 4-year-old nephew knows that taking something that doesn't belong to him is wrong. So, 10-year-olds know that smashing things, setting things alight and stealing things is wrong.

Age-appropriate treatment and punishment is certainly needed. Doing something you know is wrong carries consequences, and that is an important lesson that needs to be learnt, if not from the parents then from authority. Of course there is parental responsibility - but children at the age of 10 who commit adult crimes have a greater chance than any of learning how to follow the right path in life, and that opportunity should not be missed with those who have been involved in situations like we have seen over the past few days.

kitty - yeah he is, which is why they reckon itll be worse tonight cuz the scummy little chavs hate him :/ xx

I agree, and in all honesty I feel that I dont have much of a future. I probably wont beable to afford to own my own house until I am in my 30's. I am worried about Lyla getting older and me having to go back into work incase I cant get a job. Before Lyla I tried and tried so hard to find work, it took me almost 1.5 years to find one and it wasn't even a permanent position!! But saying that I am determined to work my little ass off to find me and Lyla a nice home, a stable job and a happy life. But it is true, due to prices going up, unemployment becoming more and more common and the amount of people with degrees getting lower our economy is breaking down. Riots wont solve it, they will make it worse. But David Cameron can now see how much damage has been done to soceity and I pray he will help us all for a brighter future for mine & lylas generations. xx

Just saw the ad for the sky news programme 'why are they rioting?' that music that was on it made it freaky!x

Rumours flying around that gangs from around the country are heading to Birmingham because of the hit & run of the Muslim lads last night. There were already rumours of a gang war possibly starting up there going around earlier today. No idea how much truth there is to this, but messages are circulating around BBM and SMS warning people to stay indoors.

"
‘everyman keep off the road tonight, Birmingham is going to be madness, people from london, leicester, derby, manchester to f**k up birmingham of them 3 asian guys that got killed in winson green there coming to riot hard and i don’t want no one to lose their life because of it, stay in your yards and pass this on’"

Could be shit stirring but hey.

Will update when I know more xx
