American ladies.. who do you think will win the election?

I doubt there will be a doctor shortage. As it is, there aren't enough jobs in the USA. There isn't a doctor shortage in the UK

Oh there is, there are huge shortages of NHS staff full stop, it's usually lack of funds that stop those positions being filled. Think about it, dentists, waiting lists on surgerys, ward running on one nurse, it's a mess, and needs more funding.

Not saying that would happen.

I don't feel like anyone is trying to make someone else feel like they can't voice their opinion.

No one is silencing anyone. People are simply asking each other to back up what they are saying.

Well whats going to happen when there is a shortage of doctors so it won't matter if I have insurance or not? What happens when the government tells me I've lived a good life and you no longer get health insurance because we don't have the money for it? What happens when the healthcare plan goes bankrupt? What happens if I can't get into see a specialist and die anyways?

With the military yes we need to put more money into it after all the cuts Obama has done. Right now we are so vulenrable as Americans because of the condition of the military. I could care less if Big Bird gets cut either. The make enough money off of their dvd and tickle me elmos that they don't need the federal government to sponsor it.

The thing is, people without insurance (who can't afford their work's health plan, for example, or who are self-employed) are being told that already, so to speak. Either live without treatment, or lose everything paying for it. It's sort of a lose-lose battle; people without are praying to finally have care, and people with are terrified of losing it. But it's only a "maybe, could happen" that the healthcare system will crash and everyone will be screwed, whereas the first situation is very real and very prevalent as we speak.

I also think that cutting education leaves us quite a lot more vulnerable as a country than cutting certain areas of military spending. If the education system isn't quality, then who will have the education to develop weapons and military strategy? How will we educate more good doctors to head off a doctor shortage?

If a ward was running on one nurse, it would be closed. Dentists are free to go private as soon as they qualify (which we pay for). The waiting lists on surgery are normally the result of bedblocking. TBH if the NHS wants to save money they should try by cutting out the amount of stupid blooming lectures they expect staff to attend once a month.

My mum is a paediatric A&E nurse and she has worked shifts in which she was the only nurse on staff on more than one occasion. Her hospital is massively understaffed. I completely agree with socialised healthcare and think that the NHS really is something to be proud of but there are definitely massive flaws in the system.

I have never in my entire working life in NHS, worked in a dept where the only staff member was 1 nurse. If it does happen it is totally unacceptable and against NHS working practices. They are more in need of getting rid of the "managers" who earn far too much money for the crap job they do and training more staff and more importantly keeping the staff they have !.

Sorry went off the OP topic there :D

It's discouraging that I can't read through a thread like this without all the negative and condescending language.

This thread would have been shut down a while ago if there were threats made like this etc I think you're getting a little upset over people's passion and demand for factual information. I won't put up with hearing Republican bubble talk (the twisted statistics and lies that consistently requires correcting publicly by figures like Obama, Bill Maher and usually any late night comedy is also taking the piss out of the latest untruth spoken by a member of the party).

From what I've read the most offensive statements are the sexist quotes from Republican senators against women. When we hear that Romney would steal from the public education system to beef up an already beefed up military (the US's military is larger than the next 10 military giants combined-COME ON!!), people around the world get outraged. Frankly, for those of us who value freedom, women's rights, separation of church & state (read your constitution lately?) and world peace, we're quite passionate about ensuring Republican religious crazies don't get into power. The same kind of controlling women-hating dictators exist in Pakistan, Afganistan and other oppressed middle eastern countries. Republicans and Tea Baggers represent the same kind of religious, militaristic, uneducated extremists as these uncivilised places. The less education Americans receive, the easier it is to brainwash and control them, this has been the model for religion controlled militaristic countries for centuries. Yet so many Americans seem to support this. With the newly assessed 'Average' international education ranking, American's are half way there. That's made it quite a serious situation, 1 more round of Republicans would completely bankrupt America and it would certainly be very very bad for the world.

I'm really happy to read the views of many non American people. Who we vote into offices affects them nearly as much as it does us.

Seems like all of the 'outsiders' would be Democrat, I wonder why that is?

VERY well said!! Thank you :)

One thing that should be noted is that Obama should have been impeached by now. He has done so many illegal things while in office. Look at Arizona they created a law to help protect US citizens from illegal immigration (one of America's biggest issues) and he went behind everyones back and said the federal government will not help Arizona. The role of the President, according to Article II, Sec. 3, is to "take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed." He didn't do this. I believe that all laws need to be followed even those regarding illegal immigration. Part of the healthcare crisis is these illegal immigrants who come to America go to the ER and then dont pay their bills. The cost has to come down somewhere. In turn healthcare gets so expensive that the average American cannot afford and then the vicious cycle continues. Obamas plan is to grant all these illegal immigrants amnesty. If people want to be Americans they need to follow the correct procedures. Romney believes in this too.

You gals all talk about how great the NHS is but to be honest your stories of treatment during pregnancy, the doctor shortage, and how they are understaffed scare me. When you are understaffed you don't get the treatment you deserve and because the staff is stressed will most likely not treat you well. I do not wish this for the American system.

Yes Romeny may not have the best tax plan in place but Healthcare, Illegal Immigration, and cutting the spending are my top 3 issues. They have the most merrit in my decision. By the way I do belong to the Constitution Party. Unfortunately they aren't very big but their whole purpose is to live by the Constitution which I believe in. It is gaining more and more popularity.

He should be impeached? You've got to be kidding me.

With regards to Arizona, I believe what he did was right. Why in the world is it right to walk up to someone who LOOKS like they may not be American and ask to see their license to prove they're an American citizen.

People want to come to America, there is no doubt about that. It should be an easier process to gain citizenship. Stop sending them back to Mexico, let them get their green card - let them get jobs working and getting paid as the American people do and make them pay taxes!

The majority of the OUTRAGEOUS healthcare costs are due to greed, NOT illegal immigrants. Period.

I won't even go into the prejudices against illegal immigrants. Many just want to work and survive in a wonderful country.

Maybe where you live but here in Utah it is.

Completely agree, Trichick. After I was billed my portion of Sophia's birth I received a letter from my insurance company telling me NOT to pay because they had overcharged me for SEVERAL things and they were going to dispute it.

I don't doubt that but they still need to follow the laws. Just because you want something doesn't mean your entitled to whatever you want.

I was born and raised in the agricultural belt of central California. If there are more illegal immigrants in your neck of the woods I will eat my shoe.

That made me laugh...LOL You'd be surprised by the number we have here now. It seems like we're getting a bunch of Californians moving here including illegal immigrants.
