Who said someone was full of shit or a misogynist? Who was called names? I may have missed something...

I am voting for Obama .. Every person in this thread has the right to their opinion. I could not give 5 flying shits what anyone thinks..................

If I had the choice of birthing location, I would pick the UK over US tbh. Maternity care in the US is BADLY in need of reform. I can't wait until I'm a nurse midwife.

My husband could come and go as he pleased  He wasn't bound by visiting hours.

My FOB is American and I'm Canadian. We met abroad and became unexpectedly pregnant. My baby girl was born in Canada 2 months ago. FOB wanted to try to have her born in the states and I said HELL no.

I feel lucky that she was able to be born in Canada, and not the US. FOB still lives in the states, and thinks its a good country, but I disagree. I never want to have to call the likes of Romney my president, or live in a place where people like him get away with being so backwards and conservative in their views. Where things like gay marriage and abortion are still up for debate. And rich assholes like Trump or the Koch brothers get to pay millions to sway public opinion using the media.

Canada is not by any means perfect, but I just feel much more comfortable with her living here. Many of these "socialist" countries you speak of, like Sweden, people are happier there than Americans are. (According to studies.)

Im afraid for America and for the world if Romney wins.

Daneuse, I get that you have an opinion but to say 'FOB still lives in the states, and thinks its a good country, but I disagree', is going to offend the girls from the US. Of course there are bad things and bad people, things that you wouldnt chose for your own country (and some of the girls from the US probably wouldnt chose it for their own country) but that doesnt make it a bad country or not good. I cant think of a single country that doesnt have things that I disagree with, it is just the way it is.

Oh and I thought abortion and gay marriage will always be up for debate, here (UK) in the past few weeks the legal limit has been discussed and bringing it down (sorry for the A talk but I am not really discussing it as such just talking about what has been in the news as an example), and gay marriage is always being discussed because right now it is civil partnership but some believe that gay marriage should be just that 'marriage'.

It doesnt make the UK (or US) any better or worse than Canada, just means there are a mixture of people in the country and their beliefs vary so there will always be debate.

As for Trump and the Koch brothers, although we dont have it in such an obvious way we do have someone who owns pretty much all the media here (Murdoch) so who ever he backs gets all the good press. Doesnt Canada have anyone who sways the media, even in a less obvious way than Trump etc?

I thought that Canada currently has a super conservative Prime Minister who has introduced massive cuts in the social welfare and healthcare systems?

p.s I do love Canada. I have Canadian citizenship and most of my family live over there. But i don't think that it is necessarily superior to the US! I agree with Tasha, every country has its' faults. The U.K certainly is far from perfect.

All i can say is WOW... How would you know who is happier than who? I think your post is very rude , you talk about unfairness your post seems to be a bit unfair.. Just cause one asshole does something wrong doesn't mean he speaks for all of us "Americans" .. You have the right to your opinion though..

I didnt know that, we dont hear about Canadian polictics as much as American do we?

Of course you agree with me, its cos I am always right

Haha well that just goes unsaid Tasha

And yeah Stephen Harper, he is definitely Conservative. I genuinely love Canada and Canadian people but I do feel like Canada is portrayed as some kind of liberal beacon of North America when I always pick up on a lot of Conservative views and some racial ignorance over there.

Sorry to offend, Im not saying the US is a bad country, I just think that it isnt being well run. Im nervous about its direction and believe me, I WANT it to do well because my child will have dual citizenship from there. Her father and relations on his side being American make it important to me too that things pick up again.

There have been studies that have measured happiness of the general population around the world, and countries like Iceland, Sweden, Australia and Canada have been at the top in recent years. Thats what I meant by 'people are happier there.' I think the larger the income inequality gap, the more distress and unhappiness there will be.

I dont like the current prime minister of Canada, but our conservative is almost like an American democrat. Even under a conservative government, there is still universal healthcare (apparently cuts have been made, but nothing that Ive noticed... all my pregnancy related costs were covered) gay marriage is legal all over, and there is no law related to abortion. There are plenty of handouts and lots of abusers. Its not perfect, but by the state of things right now Id much rather have my daughter grow up in Canada than the US. And I wont apologize for that opinion because I dont think its rude... I just want whats best for my child.

The only cut to the benefits that I know of is the community start up bonus was cut. If you moved while you were on welfare they would give you about 1000$ to cover the cost. Otherwise nothing obvious has changed at all.

he is a conservative, he only had a minority gvt the first time round and then was elected with a majority in 2011. I wouldn't call him ultra conservative, not comparable with a republican in the USA. He has changed the age of consent from 14 to 16 and made some cuts to the welfare system, there is also no current time limit on abortion, it varys from province to province and is up to the doctors discretion, I think he does want to change this. He's comparably with the PM in the UK.

Also, about racial ignorance.. What do you mean?

Edit : I just ask since we were voted inti the top 5 least racist countries in the world and all..

Obama saved us from a Great Depression.

That's a very strong statement. If that's your opinion, fine, but if you're stating it as fact, I need some citation.

Who said someone was full of shit or a misogynist? Who was called names? I may have missed something...

Oops, I misspoke. It was actually "misanthrope," not "misogynist." And it was in this post.

I'm not trying to point anyone out, I just want everyone to remember that there is a person behind every post. Your opinions and views may differ, but please try not to resort to personal attacks. Think of the babies! :baby: :happydance:

To be fair, I think some of us were trying to remind others that there is a person behind every stereotype and inaccurate generalization.

Stephen Harper is conservative, yes..."super" conservative? I definitely wouldn't say that.

I will say that I am very happy to live in a country where, even under conservative leadership, we are very pro-choice.

I do like the States and never really understood why people tried to make a rivalry between Canada & the US.

Plus I am so so thankful for American television. If you've ever seen Canadian tv you'll understand why.

we have loooooooad of canadian kids tv shows here
