hi everyone
I'm new to this forum.I have a question because I'm concerned a lot.I just have my triple screen results although I'm 27 right now and don't have any abnormalities in my family. I just learned that my baby has 33 percent of down syndrome risk.So I had detail ultrasound yesterday and everything is fine with the baby but this is 70 percent accurate.so I'm gonna have amnio today in the late afternoon.Has anybody have an idea about the procedure?Does it hurt?

sorry i havent had it done myself.... so i cant really help you. but i just wanted to wish you luck and i hope everything goes ok. let us no how you get on.

I just wanted to say good luck and I hope you LO is healthy :hugs:

i saw no one had info and i havent had the amnio but i read this in a book so i hope it helps:
mom is positioned on back, her body is draped so only the abdomen is exposed. the fetus and placenta are located via ultra sound, so the doc avoids them. the abdomen is swabbed with antiseptic and sometimes a local anesthetic is given- that injection is as painful as the amnio needle itself so some doctors dont bother with it. a long hollow needle is inserted into the abdomen wall into the uterus and a small amount of fluid is drawn from the sac around the baby. the mothers vitals and fetal heart rate are checked before and after procedure which shouldnt take more than 30 min. RH negeative woman are given an injection after the procedure (usually) to ensure there will be no RH problems. according to the book most woman feel no more than a few min or hours of mild pain or cramping after the procedure.

best of luck, hope its painless and you feel good!

Just wanted to wish you good luck today. I hope everything turns out fine :hugs:
