another af from hell

Well here we go again. Another af from hell. My last af was 12 days of black discharge and this af is turning out the same, i'm on my 8th day of horrible discharge. No fresh red blood at all. I'm really losing all faith in my body. Don't know what's happening to me and feeling totally drained from it all. Has anyone out there ever had this black discharge instead of a red flow?? What could be wrong with me??? Feeling miserable and have to wait another week and a half until i go back to my gyne.

thanks caz & bob, u replied to me last month aswell. It's just soooooooo annoying. I really would love if someone knew what the reason for all this crap discharge was!!! Wish I could have my gyne appointment this week so i could show them and maybe then they would stop fobbing me off!!

I had that a couple of months back - 10 days of horrible black spotting but no red blood or proper flow. Was grim. No idea what caused it but you have my empathy! xxx

hi.....for about 6 mths last year i got that black discharge stuff b4 my red flow started too! would usually be for about 4 days b4 af arrived properly...i remember speaking to my fs & gp bout it as i was so concerned!! never had experienced it b4 when i was ttc my dd who is now 4. i had other symptoms too that indicated endo, in the end i pushed for a lap & dye ( i am not saying u have endo by the way! my fs said that the black discharge was just old blood from the last period coming out b4 the new fresh period comes out & she said not to worry, my gp did say that sometimes that discharge can be linked to endo tho) i started clomid in oct and noticed as the mths that went on the number of days of discharge i was getting was decreasing....by jan i was only getting 1 day of it b4 my red flow was starting....i was happy that it seemed to be improving. i had the lap and dye on 3rd feb, nothing found .....got my bfp on 20th feb!! xx

hi dancingkaty1, thanks for that reply. I've been having issues with my af since i got the coil removed in april 09. Started seeing a gyne in november 09 to try to sort out all the discharge and inbetween bleeds. I was put on provera for a month. It cleared the problem a bit for that cycle but it hadnt completely stopped. Anyhow since then af has been getting worse, more painful, more black discharge before af and after af but for the last 2 cycles i just had thick black discharge (sorry tmi) instead of red flow for af. Last cycle it lasted 12 days. This cycle so far it has been 11 days. Every cycle is getting more and more crazy. Ive finished my 3rd round of clomid so unfortunately for me it didnt clear up any of my discharge issues, if anything it's worse!! Anyhow I have been thinking about the whole endo thing and have questioned my gyne on each visit about this. I have even done a checklist on the internet and i'm gonna bring it with me on 11th June to my next appointment. You see my gyne (who is part of a team and not the actual head consultant in the hospital) was gonna send me for a lap 3 months ago on my last appointment but she had to pass it by her "boss" (the head consultant) first. So when she showed the head lad my results so far and then showed him my dh's SA he said that the reason for us not conceiving was obviously my husband's low sperm count and motility and so he said to try me on clomid first. So they have totally put my issues to one side cause they see a problem with my dh. HELLO WE ARE TWO SEPERATE PEOPLE!!!!! It's soooooooooo frustrating!!!! I know what's happening to me isn't normal but i have to get the docs to see that!!! I have requested to actually see the head consultant and not just one of his team on my visit next week. I'm not gonna let them fob me off for another 3 months. It's just not fair, especially when I'm worried that there's something wrong inside me Sorry for the huge rant, all finished now Thanks for listening x

Is it clotty or more like a paste?
Before I found out about my thyroid problem, I had something that sounds similar.
About a week after O, I would get dark brown discharge that got darker till it was black when AF was due. It was thick and pasty not wet like a proper AF.
The only other thing I have had that is black are clots.
Hope your gyno can give you some answers.

i would def push for a lap and dye if u think there are other symptoms of endo too. whats the point of u going on clomid if u did have issues going on inside and i thought the sperm had to be ok for you to start clomid? really hope u get some answers, i really do feel 4 u, i was exactly the same as u, so worried as i had many symptoms of endo but my fs said i didnt need a lap and dye...so i went privately and saw a laparoscopy specialist....he agreed to do the op and said i should def get it done! luckily they treat nhs patients too so it was all done on nhs in the end which was a bonus, plus i didnt have the long nhs waiting period! im sure the dye flushed my tube and gave me my bfp!! good luck, keep us updated xx

Hi cedarwood, It was like clots and stringy dark discharge for most of my cycles but the last 2 cycles have been different more like paste!! Sounds disjusting and it is but what can i do until my gyno starts to help me???

hi ya, the reason i was given for being put on clomid was to give my dh's sperm a better chance - meaning his swimmers would have more eggs to aim at and hopefully one sperm would make it!!! I thought it was rather pointless myself cause it doesnt matter if i've a million eggs sitting there waiting, if the dam swimmers wont swim they will never reach the eggs!!! Plus i was told i was ovulating so that wasn't a problem for me!! My sister in law works in our local hospital and she was telling me that i could go private and get a lap done but it would cost me a couple of thousand so i decided to hold off another month until my next appointment (which is almost here) and hopefully force them into sending me for a lap on the public list cause i dont have the funds for private just yet. And i would rather keep my savings in case our next step is ivf. They said a lap is a very 'invasive' surgery but to be honest i dont care what it is if it puts my mind at ease. If i get the all clear at least i can focus all my attention onto my dh's swimmers!!!! And on the other hand if they find something then maybe things could be done to fix the problem!!! I will defo keep u updated - i cant wait till next friday gets here until i see my gyno!!
