I had a lap & dye on tuesday and was devastated to learn that both my tubes are blocked and there is no chance of conceiving naturally. Our only option now is IVF.

As my husband smokes we have been told to get in contact when he has given up smoking for 6 months and then we can be put on the waiting list - which is apparently about 6 months.

After ttc for 19 months I can stand the thought of waiting at least another year for treatment. I am not sure if going private is an option but would appreciate any information anyone has on this. How much it really costs? What are the chances of it working? - I am 29 and all my blood tests and scans were normal.

thank you. xxxx

Hi
Sorry to hear ur tubes r blocked is there anything they could try to clear them? I have adhesion scars blocking mine and am looking into private ivf the cost in around 4k. Do they think your husbands smoking is affecting his sperm? To make ur wait 6 months after he stops seems a bit harsh.

Hey Hun, I'm also in Surrey but fall under Kingston PCT for our fertility treatment.

I'm really sorry to hear about ur diagnosis but positive that u have some fantastic eggs just waiting for a hot date with ur DHs :spermy:

Was it the fs that told u to come back in 6 months? I would complain, it's disgusting!! Some PCTs have a wait & some don't. If you've been diagnosed then I'm not sure what difference 6 months will make? What was your Dhs SA like? My argument would be that sperm take 70-90 days to mature so if they're intent on making u wait, 3 months is an adequate time as sperm would be fresh having given up smoking??

My DH gave up when we first started trying and def feels healthier, just not sure about his swimmers!!

I had an HSG in May and it showed that my right tube was blocked. The lap & dye was to look at things more closely and to unblock the tube if possible. When i came round I was told that the right tube was completely and utterly blocked and only a tiny bit of dye went through the left tube went they put it under pressure. She said there was nothing they could do to unblock the tubes and in the unlikely event of me getting pregnant it would most likely be ectopic.

The criteria in my PCT says that neither partner can smoke 6 months leading up to going on the waiting list. It is annoying but I do understand that such expensive treatment should come with some stipulations. Maybe it is also to give us the best chance of it working.

This may be coming across as matter of fact, I just feel numb right now. I can't quite believe this is happening to me.

I was told about £6k - so 4k is sounding a bit better.

Thanks for your replies and good luck to you on your journeys. xxxx

Hi hun was just wondering how long has your wait been for IVF?

I am sorry to hear about your tubes...

I agree with Rachelle1975 that 3mths is plenty of time. I mean to wait 6mths to get on the waiting list and then to have to wait a further 6mths once on the list is a long time.
I gave up smoking 3yrs ago and I must say I feel a whole lot better. Wishing your hubby all the best in his quitting smoking and wishing you all the very best in TTC.

Hey sprat - sorry it took a while to respond.
We had our NHS tests through the GP in August and September 2008 - got referred beginning of October and got an appt for Jan 09. I rang up and asked for a cancellation and got November 2008.
Eventually at our appt in Feb 09 we got put on the waiting list for ICSI and were told that Queen Mary's had a 12 month wait for Kingston PCT (no wait if you are Surrey).
In Sept after 7 months we got told our funding was through and i had to go and have my Day 3 bloods done along with HIV and Hep and then wait 2 weeks, call the clinic and schedule another appt - that is now Dec 8th.
So Dec 8th we will get all our dates - they are currently looking at 2-3 periods then long protocol.... so i should know by Easter if i'm going to be a mummy!
Cripes that was long winded sorry!
What clinic are you at hun?xx

I have been in touch with them - it is really too pricey I think though for us at the moment - if only there was a guarantee that it would work then the money would not be so much of an issue! Good luck. :dust:

I can't believe how long it has all taken for you! Do you have any hope that you will get pregnant in the meantime or is IVF your only option? - I guess if you are doing ICSI that means your OH had a questionable SA. We also have that worry although they seem to think it should be good enough for IVF.

I have had all my treatment etc at Epsom hospital and we will be referred to Queen Mary's if we do go the NHS route but I was told 6 months wait - maybe it has changed this year.

We are tentatively thinking about egg sharing at the moment - I just can't bear the thought of waiting another year!

Not long for you now though hun - good luck with it all! xxx :dust:
