Any vegetarians putting meat back on the menu?

No curtain people don't think fish is a Vegetable!! How shocking!! At some point in the past I don't know how many years ago there must have been a thing were you can still eat fish if but dont eat meat and still call yourself a veggie, times have changed and they mush have changed this. I always said what's the point of eating fish if you don't want to eat meat. At some point you could class yourself as a veggie and still eat fish.. Why would so so many people have the same information if this never happened.

I think the confusion is that the Veggie Society used to allow members who ate fish but I don't think they do now.

Wow. I only read the first 2 pages of responses and was disgusted in many of them.
I have known many people who only ate fish. If they wanted to call themselves vegetarians who cares.
Obviously more attention has to be paid to be sure you are getting all of your nutrients if you are a vegetarian. Especially when pregnant.

I'm not a vegetarian, and I dont have much advice to give. But I admire your efforts to try and be as healthy as you can for your baby. Whether its eating meat or not. As well its great that you are giving OH a say in the pregnancy as well.
Good luck with your choices and have a great pregnancy! :hugs:

 i dont understand why this has turned into an argument, its up to the OP what she eats for crying out loud.

Someone who eats fish but chooses not to eat meat is a Pescatarian.

OP - in answer to your question (bypassing all the snidey comments) instead of eating meat (if you dont want to..) why not just take extra vitamins on top of your regular diet? Maybe ask your doctor what they think would be missing (iron, B12, protein etc) and then maybe get some of those to take. Saves you eating meat if you dont want to x

It has turned in to an argument because of comments like "curtain people think fish is a vegetable" and in the past you could eat fish but no meat and call yourself a vegetarian. Fact this did happen. Now is different. People are confused by this this is why it's turned into this big debate. There is no need for silly comments

I would say eat whatever you feel comfortable with. If you fancy meat, eat it.
If you don't fancy it, then dont eat it! Just find an alternative source of protein, which you do like :flower:

xxx

I've just learned that this and breast feeding are two topics to stay away from.

I'd say it's your decision and don't let anyone make you feel bad about your decision.

How varied are your protein sources and essential fatty acids??

Essential fatty acids:
flaxseeds, flaxseed meal, hempseed oil, hempseeds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, sesame seeds, avocados, some dark leafy green vegetables (kale, spinach, purslane, mustard greens, collards, etc.), canola oil (cold-pressed and unrefined), soybean oil, wheat germ oil, flaxseed oil
The non vegetarian sources:
Salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, albacore tuna, and others.

Protein:
*Some high sources: lentils, seitan, tofu

^^ List is endless

It's up to you to decide what to do if you want to go off your pescetarian diet (I'm not sure why there is an argument about that, pescetarian is clearly a diet based on fish, vegetarian is clearly a diet without any meat products) but remember that you don't NEED to in order to have a healthy pregnancy.

After all, sausage probably contains nitrates and high saturated fat :p

That being said, I'm not a vegetarian myself and enjoyed many fatty sausages :p Too many in fact, and had a rather large baby (doh). Good luck to you.

A varied diet is the key whether you choose to include meat in it or not.

Actually I don't think many on here have been having a go at the OP, more at the people who keep insisting that you can be a vegetarian and eat fish. The OP referred to herself as a semi-vegetarian and knows full well that she isn't a veggie. Certain others seem to think that a fish is a vegetable.

You know what you should probably sue the OP on behalf of the Vegetarian Society of the World. I mean how dare she call herself a vegetarian when she is actually a pescatarian??? I don't know about where you live but here in the US we have laws against people calling themselves something other than what they really are. These people must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, what kind of example will she be setting for her kids after all? It is really up to the vegetarian community to banish and obliterate these worthless posers. They pose a danger to vegetarianism everywhere, just like us meat-eaters who if left unguarded may come to your residence and shishkabob your puppies and kittens. You must act quickly. :)

I'm actually close to peeing myself,if I could I would give u a standing ovation,best thing I've read all day,well said xx

I don't know why people get annoyed about others' eating habits and want to label them. Honestly, fish no meat, meat no fish, veggie only, no veggies at all WHO CARES! Whatever we eat or don't eat we can call ourselves what we want - it really isn't important.

This thread is getting beyond a joke-who cares if a vegetarian wants to call themselves a vegetarian if they still eat fish! I still class myself one regardless. There is really no need to try and undermine people and be sarcastic by saying "certain people think fish is a vegetable!" its just plain childish!

plus the thread was started to ask any other pregnant vegetarians if theywould be going back to eating meat so why the big bashing of people who chose to call themselves wat they want to call themselves in relation to eating meat! It astonishes me sometimes how off topic and nasty comments can get.

Hello, I am also what you may call pescatarian but not for ethical reasons but I just don't really like the taste or texture of meat. I do eat chicken very rarely if I must. However, the other day my friend had some freshly roasted hog and I just had to have a piece. It actually tasted nice at first as well!!
I doubt I will be eating meat just for eating sake but I won't stop myself having any if that is what I crave. I have been trying to get a portion of fish a week though as it is meant to be good for the baby.

I don't eat fish or pork (except for bacon and sausage). Does anybody know what I should be called?

i used to eat meat but nowadays i am off meat as my morning sickness does not let me even smell meat. i was the same with my daughter and this was fine in 5th month.
