I'm worried about doing it as i've read that it could give LO an upset stomach. I've been trying to express milk but after LO's last growth spurt he now feeds from both boobies and it takes me a hour just to get half an ounce when i try expressing afterwards whereas before it wasn't a problem

I'm no longer worried that he's not getting enough, i know i fill him, its just it would be handy to know that i could give him formula if ever it was needed. The other day OH was looking after him while i went to drop some dvds off and i didn't express any milk as i thought i'd only be an hour max, but there was a traffic jam, and when i returned LO was screaming house down as he was hungry and OH felt so hopeless!! OH is wanting to be more active in feeds but i'd literally be sat each day either pumping or feeding for this to happen I can get the most in the morning, but this is usually when LO demands most attention from me. By dinnertime when he's fast on, I'm back to struggling.

Sorry to ramble on, just my HV is coming today and i was going to mention it to her, but i feel that by even suggesting giving a bottle of formula i'm admitting defeat.

Any suggestions/experience would be great

Thanks Jo xx

Do YOU want to give formula? You need to be 100% sure in your mind first.
If you do, the best advice is pick a light formula (like Aptamil) and introduce it gradually, an oz at a time. Whatever you decide, you are NOT admitting defeat, you've done so well in BF'ing and there's nothing wrong with needing a bit of space from LO occasionally or a bit of help. Having expressed for 6 weeks I can agree it's a royal pain in the bottom so I completely sympathise with you on that one! There are ladies who mix feed here so am sure someone can help with some experiences. :flower:

I was instructed to start with similac sensitive by our public health nurse. I did but eventually switched because I read that the sensitive ones lack the lactose which is an important sugar if baby can handle it.
