We have a potty and my dd likes to sit on it but doesn't really know anything other than that yet. She thinks it's a toy like her other toys.
I want to start but not sure how. A friend said to give her water and then take her to the potty 20 or so min later and just let her sit for a bit, read her a potty book while on it, etc. and keep trying until one day she goes. Then of course lots of praise and from there it should get easier. Is that how you all would recommend starting from the very beginning?
She says "poopy" when she either needs to poop or has already gone. So I know she is aware of that part at least. She goes and hides when she does it so I heard that was another sign.
But she is only 25 months, 23 adjusted, and this baby will be here in 4 more months, I'm worried that if we make progress now, it will all be reversed when the baby comes, so I don't know if it's even worth trying now or not. My other concern is her days of the week are a little crazy. Monday she is either home with dad or at daycare. Tues - Thurs my mom watches her, and Friday she is back at daycare. So I'm not sure how her schedule will allow her to learn. Should we just focus on doing it at home and once we have established some progress, then start working with the daycare to help her to go there? She is very shy at daycare and I'm afraid she won't ask to go when she is with all the other kids.
