My husband and I have actively been trying for years now, and nothing.....I have put off going to the doctor about it because I just kept telling myself it will happen when it happens. I was told today that I will have to have an HSG test done to see if my tubes are blocked, etc. (My appendix ruptured when I was 16 so there is a strong possibility that this is the case.) I am very nervous about this procedure and any possible procedures/surgeries in the future. I am wondering if anyone has had experience with this procedure and/or blocked tubes? I am also just looking for some women to confide in, in general, because I am experiencing the frustration of "everyone is pregnant besides me" thing and I really need to speak with women that understand. I hope to hear from someone. :) #tryingtostaypositive

I had an HSG test done on Tuesday, both tubes were 'textbook' in their words but I wasn't expecting there to be an issue as I've got PCOS so I sort of know that's my problem....the HSG test was just something I had to have done to get Clomid!

The procedure itself was uncomfortable but bearable. Sort of like a smear text but with period pains as an added bonus! Don't worry too much about it, it's over pretty quickly.

Good luck!

I had 2. Didn't like it at all. It's mainly more painful if you have blockages.

I had one in may. Wasn't exactly pleasant experience. Make sure you take Tylenol before you go.
I had open tubes and this is cycle 2 after. :-/

ugh, setting up my appt for this this month if AF shows again, which is due next week. I'm assuming she will, why would it change now??
The doc didn't pull the wool over my eyes, though - she said it can be crampy, worse if there are blockages and to take some Ibuprofin beforehand. FUN!

I had an HSG in February. One of my tubes was blocked and was able to be cleared. My procedure was quite painful (coming from a person with an extremely high pain tolerance), but I think this was from clearing out the right tube. I took 800mg of Advil beforehand and it didn't make a difference at all.

Also, don't be surprised if it delays ovulation by several days. It pushed my very regular CD14 ovulation to CD17. Doctors will tell you that there is no reason for the HSG to delay ovulation, but anecdotally 50% or so of women I've found on various forums had delayed ovulation.

I wish you the best of luck!

I had an HSG a year ago after years of secondary infertility, imagine my shock when both tubes showed as blocked. I had zero pain with my HSG. I was told I had probably had one blocked tube, like forever, and for whatever reason now both tubes were blocked at the uterus (which is good). I scheduled a tubal recannulization which is where a cardiac doctor performs a cardiac cath on your tubes, they use the exact same procedure. However instead he pushed in some dye and inflated a cardiac cath balloon inside my uterus and BAM dye flowed freely through one side and filled the second tube. It took another DR to decide that the left tube was still blocked at the ovaries but my right tubes was open. No procedure needed. I wish i'd insisted on the hsg a lot sooner, i feel like i wasted 3 years of tears and dissapointment when i could have just had an HSG

I was told today by my docs office that I have to have an HSG test done. I am on cycle day 9 and about to ovulate very soon. Can I do the test now or do I have to wait for the next cycle?

If they can't get you in in the next few days you'll have to wait. .. :coffee:

so is there any other way to find if the tubes are blocked or not ...
I knw this sound funny but m so scared to go for this test cuz of pain and pain killer really doesnt help? please pour in some more advice on that!

Ladies, I know that a lot of people said that it was painful for them and some said not so bad. I had mine done last month and like all of you was deathly afraid of the pain. My pain tolerance is pretty low and my body is pretty darn sensitive to any type of medication and pain. So for my HSG, I took 800 mg of ibuprofen an hour prior to the procedure (was told to take it in the instruction booklet that I received). Then 30 minutes before, I was given another 800mg of ibuprofen and antibiotics. Some doctors do not prescribed antibiotics for their patients and some people are ok with it. I am just glad that mine prescribed it. I don't need any infection in there. I think no matter how sterile the equipment is there is always a possibility of infection. Anyway... During the procedure, the doctor asked me to tilt my hips to the right..then to the left..then to the right...then to the left. It felt very crampy but not enough to bring tears to my eyes. It seriously felt like the cramping you are about to have before having a diarrhea :). Not so bad. It also didn't feel that bad when he insert the equipment. I had two blocked tubes during the procedure and 1 blocked tube after. So, don't be afraid! If the doctors ordered the HSG, that means you need it. Bring hubby for support or someone that you can count on. You'll need it before and after the procedure! Good luck ladies and again...don't be afraid. It's not that bad. :)

Try a Sono hsg, had that one and it's a gentler procedure, same idea, instead of dye they use saline.

Hi ladies,

thanks for this, I'm waiting for Af, so they can schedule my HSG.. I've been putting it off since last year already, coz of the horrow stories I read on google Lol..who knows maybe this test is exactly what we need to get answers.

FX'd :hugs:

I had my HSG today. I was a bit apprehensive before hand because I'd read so much about other ladies having the procedure and saying it was quite painful. The doctor and nurse in the room with me were so good at keeping me calm and trying to distract me throughout by talking. It was uncomfortable, like bad period cramps or as someone else said when you get diarrhoea!! But it only took about 5-10 minutes with me and it stopped aching as soon as the equipment was removed. Best of luck!
