As the title says, after the 3rd attempt at a anomaly scan (1st couldn't see baby's heart and face, 2nd couldn't see all of heart) I have been refered to Liverpool woman's hospital for a foetal heart scan and a more detailed look at our baby's heart.

The dr and sonographer have stressed not to worry and they refer lots of people when anything doesn't look quite as it should but it doesn't stop me worrying of course.

They saw the 4 distinct chambers, which they said is good but the valves on each side are usually offset, with one higher than the other from what I can gather, but they didn't appear to be on our baby's heart.

They also said that the 2 outflows should cross each other but, again, from what they could see, they didn't appear to.

I just want our baby to be ok and have a chance

I saw the midwife yesterday and the heart rate was fine, which has to be a good thing I suppose.

Has anyone else gone through anything similar. I've found lots of people referred for routine heart scnas due to heriditary conditions but no-one who has been referred from the results of their abnomaly scan.

x

Hi hun, on normal anomaly scans, sometimes it can be really hard to get a detailed look at the heart because baby lies in a funny place.
It is a good thing that they are giving you a thorough scan and that will give you a definate answer as to if there is anything to be concerned with :hugs:

If they definately saw 4 chambers then that's really good news.
Try hard not to worry :hugs:

My daughter has heart problems so if there's anything else I can help you with, feel free to pm me

Good luck for Weds xxxx

thanks very much for your reply. I have managed to find a few very positive stories on babies with heart conditions so they have been helping. I guess I'm just trying to prepare myself so anything else will be a relief. x

I had one due to Type One Diabetes and at my 20 week scan peanut wasn't playing and they had to wait till 24 weeks for better look at the heart. They made me worry but said it's normal to worry and the extra scans do seen daunting! Peanut didn't behave at all with the heart scan kept shadowing the heart. Monster. but the lady said everything seemed okay and got a growth scan on Thursday so try and check again!

Hope everything goes okay :). x

My LO has got a rare combination of heart defects and has had one surgery, due another soon-ish and she will be 1 next week! She's developing 'normally' and to look at her, you wouldn't know anything was wrong.

Really hope Weds brings some good news for you.... quite often it is just how babies lay in the womb and there is nothing wrong with the heart. Keep us updated :hugs: xxxx

going_crazy I am 20 weeks pregnant. We had a cardiac scan at 16 weeks and the baby has Atrioventricular Septal Defect and will need surgery in the first year. We also had 4.9 mm nuchal fold, but I know this can be due to the heart defect. We will probably have the heart op at Great Ormond Street. Any advice you can offer will be appreciated!

Hi hun, come over to https://www.heartline.org.uk/forums/index.php and join up to the forums. There is a big support network over there and lots of information available (I am sarahbo).
My daughter (who is almost 1) has got a large Ventricular Septal Defect (as well as other things) and she is thriving at the moment. She had 2 surgeries at birth and will need another sometime soonish, but the bigger she can get before surgery, the better... Feel free to PM me with any specific questions and I will do my best to help.

By the way, Great Ormond Street is a brilliant place and you and your baby will have nothing but the best care :hugs: xxxx

I'm so glad you both replied. I have my cardiac scan this afternooon. Praying for the best but still thinking, they must have seen something to think we needed referring for further investigations. Then the other part of me thinks, at least they are following it up and the earlier it's spotted, the better really. x

Let us know how it goes today..... I'm sure things will be fine and yes, it's brilliant that they are following it up.
Good luck :flower: xxx

truly_blessed I really hope you have a good scan today. Hope the hospital is supportive and positive to you and your baby.

good luck with your scan today FunkyVine also. Mine is 14:30 so you'll probably be about going in as I'm coming out. Do let us know how it goes :hugs:

Good news, she is absolutely fine. The consultant spent 40 minutes checking everything and all the flows and said there were absolutely no concerns. I had built my self up so much for bad news, it's such a relief now.

Going_crazy, thanks for all your advice, I hope your little girl continues to go from strength to strength. I hope you scan went as well funkyvine and things improve. x

finally I think I can, thanks hun. x my dad was ill from June to Aug and passed away on 24th August then this.... it's been a bit of a stressful time but hopefully it's all good from now on.

Hi there just reading your thread glad your scan was all ok. When I was preg with my dd at my 12 weeks scan they couldn't get a read of the flows either and said on my 20 week scan they would have a heart specialist have a look. 8 worrying weeks later I had my scan and all was fine with the heart. They said there was a dark spot, but expained this could be a hole and most holes sort themselves out by birth, I guess is did because she is fine!
Thes babies like to worry us and they are not even here yet!
Have a H&H pregnancy my love!

don't they just like to worry us. when we got there yesterday they said there was also a concern with her hand and her holding it in a fist all the time, my local hospital hadn't mentioned this at all but they had put it in the notes. once we got over the elation from the results of the heart scan we then had to wait half an hour for another consultant to look at her hand. For a whole 15 minutes she kept it in a fist and wouldn't move it then just as we were thinking the worst, she quickly flashed it open and closed it again, as if to say, 'ok look, it's fine, stop shaking me now and let me sleep, I vant to be alone'. She is one little Diva already.

20 week scan yesterday was good. Baby has heart condition and slightly thicker nuchal fold, but everything else looks good, including brain development and other internal organs. So we are relieved and glad to have met lots of inspiring people, whose babies and toddlers seem to be getting along well despite not being 'perfect' babies.

Going_crazy thanks for your message, and the link to heartline. Still figuring out the PM thing but I will get there. Like you said maybe I need to do a few more posts first!

So glad to hear your scan went well. Just so you know, I had something similar with my son who is now 7. His scan at 20 weeks showed an echogenic focci which is like a calcification in the heart. It could be a symptom of DS and other issues so I was totally freaked out. We had many, many scans and refused an amnio. He was born completely normal and the belief is that ultrasounds nowadays are so sensitive that they pick up totally normal things that we would never have noticed on scans before. So lots of worry for nothing.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I am pregnant about 23 weeks and went for my scan yesterday, expecting my 2nd child. They send me to a consultant because the fetal heart was well seen. The 4 chamber view appeared normal. The left outflow tract is seen and appears normal. The right outflow tract is seen, but does not appear to cross over the LVOT, and appears to join the LVOT into one outflow tract.

My next scan is Friday but I am very worried.
