I had SPD in my last pregnancy, which was very painful and I ended up using crutches during my last 2 weeks at work (which is hard since I work in a busy hospital and am on and off the wards all day).
I'm 24 weeks on Wednesday and the familiar SPD niggles are starting to come back again :-(. Does anyone have any handy hints/tips on managing it? I had a support belt last time but it didn't help.
Thanks

No advice, just offering hugs as I know exactly how you feel.

I suffered with spd in my last pregnancy that started at around 22 weeks. I also ended up on crutches and having weekly physio sessions.

I also had a support belt etc, but found nothing helped.

This time my spd started up at 16 weeks so I feel like I've had it forever and that I'll never be pain free again! Lol.

My midwife has offered to refer me to physio again but I've declined as I found it no help last time. I've also declined crutches as with a 4 and 2 year old it's just impossible.

I'm doing everything I should be doing to help ease it but I'm still in agony every day. My oh has to put my socks and shoes on for me, although my 4 year old also helps me now. I have a carrier bag on the car seat to help me turn easily when getting in and out if the car. When I have the time I go up and down the stairs on my bum so as to save my hips.

I sleep with a big pillow between my knees at night etc. All the usual things they recommend, but unfortunately I know I won't get any relief until baby is here!

Hope it doesn't get too painful for you.

Its horrible isn't it? :hugs: the hardest thing for me at the mo is getting up off the floor when I've been playing with my daughter. It settled pretty much instantly for me after birth last time but 16 (possibly more) weeks seems a long time when you're in pain.

It really is agony :(

I really can't go on the floor unless I have to because unles my husband or someone is here to help me, then I literally can't get back up. I can get into my hands Snd knees and that's it!

Even after sitting on the sofa for a little while I have to really take my time getting up and once I'm up the first 10 steps or so will be agony and feel like my pelvis is about to break.

I'm the same, it was pretty instant in going after birth last time so I'm hoping it will be the same this time around!

SPD started up by about week 11/12 and then nailed me around week 14. Just two visits (a few days apart) with a certified chiropractor provided me with immediate and so far long lasting results.

I had never seen a chiropractor before then, just did PT for sciatica during my first two pregnancies. This was a million times worse and my OB actually suggested it. I won't hesitate to go back if it gets bad again!

Ok I looked it up. I had this type of pain with dd2 and am having it now with this one. But ut has not gotten to the point where I need assistance walking. But turning in bed getting out of bed, or if I turn to quickly while walking it takes my breath away. I hope it doesnt get worse for you. I hope you can take ut easy enough for the remainder of your pregnancy.

I suffered with this in different forms with both previous pregnancies.
I am starting to get it again, I am definitely going to try seeing a chiropractor this time. I got a recommendation from a pregnant friend-of-a-friend who says it REALLY helps. I didn't even know that this was an option for the first two!

First pregnancy for me but SPD started around 17 weeks and diagnosed properly at the 20 week appointment. Tried the belt, it feels good on my back but it does not help with SPD itself.

I have found that the days I do yoga I am able to handle the pain better. It sure hurts when I'm stretching my pelvis and legs during yoga, but after those 30 - 60 minutes, the pain is definitely better for the rest of the day and if I'm lucky relief lasts even 2 days.

I had spd with dd and I was still getting niggles a year on so this time I've been really proactive in trying to prevent it.

The main thing that seems to help is yoga, I do Tara lees pregnancy DVD a few times a week and some of the moves every day. I'm also eating better and working out more this pregnancy so I don't put on as much weight - I really believe the 3 stone I put on with dd was a big factor so I'm trying to stick to the 25-35lbs recommended weight gain this time.

I'm only 24 weeks so obviously can't be sure these things are helping but I had spd from 20 weeks with dd so fingers crossed!
