April Mummies 2011

Lizzie is definitely not super interested in doing much more than playing with the food we give her at this point. I think I'll break out the baby oatmeal later this week and see how that goes mixed with breast milk. Might even use a spoon this time instead of my finger, give her a proper eating experience. I think she still has a few weeks or even a month to go until she's really interested in food as actual food. I do plan to try out the handles for her bottles and then try a sippy top in the next few weeks.

Lizzie slept poorly last night, woke every 2 hours or so but didn't really seem to want to eat, she would suckle for a few minutes then fall back into a restless sleep, very unlike her. I think her nose is plugged up and she's having a hard time breathing and wakes scared when she can't breathe as normal. I've noticed her taking lots more stops when eating to catch her breath. I can't see any congestion in her nose so it must be back up in her sinuses. I might put some saline drops in and suck those out to see if we can get it cleared up. Hate when their noses are plugged, they're so miserable. Other than the breathing she seems fine, no fever or crabbiness.

Thanks for coming back to me ladies, Daniel had a really restless night and I ended up having to give him a bottle at 04.30 which I have not done for weeks he is never really with us when we eat as I normally try and eat when he is napping but might see what his reaction is and might start thinking about a bit of baby rice!

When did you ladies gave LO baby rice, what time in the day did you do it, i was thinking morning just incase it upsets George's stomach and then he might be awake at night unsettled if we gave him it at night? If that makes sense lol.

I started with Jake after a afternoon feed, but with Amelia, I feed her after her morning feed, breakfast times. To be honest, neither times seem to make a difference with my 2. I'll prob add another meal at dinnertime in a couple weeks, then lunch soon after.

We started with rice after his mid morning feed so it's like an early lunch! Now we do some at teatime too. Leaving brekky for now cos I have so much milk on a morning I don't think he needs anything else!

same here lilly - we're not weaning yet either. At lunch I put some carrot and baby corn on her high chair and she just plays with it :) The carrot got some funny faces when she tasted it but the corn seemed to be a nice taste :)

I'm not fussed if she ignores it though - I just want her to get used to being in her highchair and being at the table as well as having food around :) It's ace fun!

you should not introduce corn yet, its a food that is a big allergen:flower:

"Corn is another one of those confusing food when it comes to baby feeding. Most sources do say that corn is best given after 12 months old. One of the reasons is that corn is a potential high allergen food and another reason is that corn may be a choking hazard. Further, introducing corn after 12 months old, as a finger food, may be more appropriate because an older baby/toddler should be able to properly "chew"/mash the nibblets. "

That said, my DD is actually allergic to corn.

i have started giving alex his food late afternoon, no real reason for it other than it tends to be when i have more time so it can take as long as he likes. He's now able to pick up the spoon put it in the bowl to get the food and put some food in his mouth! not every mouthful but he's getting the idea. Had all his apple tonight, just a 1oz cube but didn't think they were meant to manage it all after only 4 days of introducing food! lol.

think i'm going to wait a while before intriducing a 2nd meal, but will play it by ear :).

oh yeah, just wondering have bfing mummy's heard that we're supposed to supplement iron after 6mths if intend to carry on bfing? heard it a couple of times now as theres not enough iron in breastmilk and babies won't get enough from food at that point but formula has it already added. Any ideas what to use, whether it really is necessary??

I'm curious about this too! I decided not to supplement with vitamin D since it's summer and she's out in the sun a lot. Will probably need to add that and iron in around 6 mos as it will be winter.

We have to give them vitamin D drops after 6 months. I know that they sell them at the weigh in clinic where I go, so your hv may be able to advise if they do?

well its been ages sorry, I always seem to be out or doing something with george!

Not had time to catch up properly but sounds like SAm you need hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We are not weaning yet either, George is not quite 4 months old yet! I am hoping to wait until 6 months if we can, I would love to do BLW but will see what happens. I dont see the point in rushing things, its just more for me to worry about!

x

Caro, I'd not heard that about BFing & iron.

But I've decided to stop at 6 months & switch to FF. Gonna start dropping a feed per week when Rex hits 5 months so by 6 months we'll be done. Been battling with the decision but I think I feel ok about it now. I've gone longer than I ever thought I would in those early weeks & hope I've given him the best start. Looking forward to having my body back for a year before we TTC#2 when Rex is 18 months old. Just hope he doesn't suddenly get ill when we stop.

yeah a couple people have mentioned it now to me. I'll go ask my health visitor at some point! although don't think shes running a clinic anymore :dohh:, sure I can find her number somewhere!

ooh sazzle we might get to do No.2 at the same time! think we're aiming to wait until around then for No.2 as well! :)

I've been told that you don't need to supplement, it's just a ruse used by the formula companies to get more people buying their products. Babies have enough iron in there systems to last until they get it from their diet. Was told this by an NHS baby feeding advisor, she also said there is actually no need to move on from first milk if you are using formula, it's perfectly good for the whole first year.

Here in the States we use the same formula from birth until 1 year.

We will also be trying for a baby when Daniel is 18 months it would be great if we could fall pregnant together!

No I wouldn't be supplementing with formula, just giving her drops. Tbh I don't know when we will be stopping breastfeeding. I guess I'll wait til a year then see where it goes from there. Prob just end up going onto full fat milk in a sippy, and BF morning and night, I guess.

My hake started preschool today!!! Can't quite believe the time has come already. I Also registered Amelia there as the waiting list Is ridiculous, and there seems to be baby booms each year, so places get limited. She starts September 2013. Sounds nuts!!!!
