April Mummies 2011

Argh! I think I'm going to die from exhaustion. Rex has decided since Mon that he doesn't need sleep anymore. I'm so tired I can hardly function but the irony is that I feel like I need to get out of the house & do something or go somewhere cos he'll sleep in his car seat or pram so at least he's had a nap. He'll sleep fine on someone too but I can't do that when I'm at home on my own as I'd never even get chance to have a shower! He went 1 & half hours max last night but it's mostly 45 mins. Tried dummies to resettle him but he just cries as soon as it falls out so it's more work. He's swaddled with White noise & used to sleep brilliantly like this. In fact last weekend he was sleeping for 5 hour stretches. I don't know what to do! Any ideas? x

is he getting frustrated with the swaddle? kids will just grow out of wanting to be swaddled at all and cry about it

or if he'll sleep on you is he hitting one of the major milestones? he could just be wanting/needing the reassurance of you/someone as his world is changing so much - esp around 8 weeks

pickle has been quite the cranky girl recently but then we find she's gone and learnt a new skill over night and we get why she was cranky - she's just had her jabs too and she's been proper grrrrr since!

In good news, we're now discharged from "baby surveillance" with the GP as she's met all the required milestones, plus some extra ones - I'm so pleased. She was slightly delayed because of the feeding issues at the start and not getting enough food but she's caught up with where she should be and gone past it :)

She was weighed on Wed and was 9lb 14oz - that's 1lb 13oz in 14 days :haha: that's my girl! She is so gorgeous I can't really put it into words tbh. I think I love her more each day, and I didn't think it was possible to love her more :)

I've also been out and got some lovely baby clothes and I can't wait to show her off. And my best mate and OH are relaying my back yard with lovely slabs so she has a nice place to play (I live near the centre of Birmingham in an old Victorian house with no garden just a yard) - it looks amazing, they've done such a good job

So, so far this week it's been good, let's hope it carries on!

SazzleR have you tried a swing? Aaron was sleeping fine at night, but would only nap during the day on me or in the car. I had a plain swing that swings front to back, but he didn't really like it. He would go in it for 5-10mins, but then want out. We got the Ocean Wonders Swing last week and he has been having a 3-4hr nap in it every afternoon:happydance: It will swing front to back, but also side to side which he seems to like better and he LOVES to watch the fish in it till he falls asleep.

I don't have any advice but am going through the same thing, fingers crossed it gets better for both of us soon x

My Lo's love their swing too. We have one the same as that but in the rainforest theme. Ive got a plain graco one too but they dont like that as much xx

Ollie loves his swing too! He has this one...

Think its the bright colours he likes best though because he can sit and stare at them all day!

we have the my little lamb swing as well as a self bouncing bouncer. only way i ever get a break!
she's sleeping in her boppy right now, but we got in the habit of doing that together after her 5 am feeding. i'm trying to get in the habit of staying awake so when i start back at work on the 20th, i'm not blind sided and struggling to stay awake. however a part of me is saying these are the last few morning naps we'll get together and i should take advantage..

I feel your pain Daniel was brilliant all this week sleeping in his cot for naps etc but today he wants to be held constantly - have managed to get him to nap in his swing (which I would def recommend)but need to go out soon and I can see he is going to scream the car down.

Thanks for the advice girls. I might ask DH about buying a swing. We've escaped to Meadowhall just so I can get out the house & he's sparko in his car seat. He just doesn't seem to like being horizontal! Just having a Starbucks!

Gertrude - I wondered about him not liking being swaddled anymore so I tried a sleeping bag last night but he woke himself up with his arms flailing around about 3 times when I was trying to get him down. So back came the swaddle. I didn't know they get clingy when they are learning new things. He does seem to be more aware of his hands this week - trying to bat things on his play mat etc. So maybe it's that & it'll pass. I bloody hope so cos I can't function!

Loopy :hugs: it's awful isn't it! Much sympathy! x

I feel for you girls who babie don't sleep. I've been there. Luckily I'm getting into a good routine with George. He usually has a feed at 11 and then wakes at 3am and 7am. Last night I fed him at 9.30 and he didn't wake up till 4am. 6 and half hour stretch. Couldn't believe it but I actually felt more tired when I woke up. He then slept from 4.45 till 8am. Hope he does the same tonight. To be honest I don't think he would sleep very well if he didn't have his dummy.

Sazzle, I totally could have written that post except Isis wasn't quite as bad. She woke every 2 hours last night and she hasn't done that in weeks. I had her down to 1 feeding in the night. I'm exhausted this morning! I would also advise the swing! We started putting Isis in her swing a couple days ago and even if she not drowsy (just tired) she'll stare at the top of the swing and fall asleep. It's been so awesome!

I'm hoping she gets this figured out before Sunday night since I'm back to work on Monday  I'm worried about her immensely. She still doesn't take full feeds from a bottle. Hopefully she'll figure it out. We've been giving her a bottle a day for 4 weeks and she still struggles with it. Somewhat makes me proud that she loves her mommy's boobies that much but she's going to have to take at least a few bottles a day.

Rosie doesn't nap in her swing very often- but she will be awake for a long time happy as can be in it.

Dana- I know what you mean! This morning I didn't even try to put Rosie back in her bed! Just wanted to cuddle! I cried and cried last night about going back to work bc ill be gone and when I get home Rosie will be asleep. I lOVE putting her to sleeep!! Its "our" time.

Crazy- glad to hear you got some sleep. I used to feel more tired when Rosie did the super long stretches (she hasn't given me more than 6 hrs for quite some time now :( ). I love that she has her own routine though!! Bed between 8 and 9 then 6 hrs and up to eat and back to sleep until 6 or so- then up at 7:30 to eat and up again att 9:30 to eat. Her naps are getting more regular too

Sazzle- Rosie wakes herself up with her arms a lot too. I sometimes hold them down until she is more asleep then she moves them into a comfy position

i'm so proud of Alex, he slept 6 and a half hours solid last night! then only took half an hour to be changed and fed and went back down for another 3 hours! really hope we get the same tonight but prob won't be that lucky twice in a row, lol.

those who have trouble with LO's sleeping, have you blacked out the room? i was finding alex was waking as soon as even a hint of light hit the room, so i've popped a black sheet over his pram hood (with lots air gaps!!) and this means he's tricked into thinking its still night.

I also have to make sure he's properly asleep before putting him down, he just won't self settle yet, then hold his arms until he's properly gone again in the cot or he'll wake himself up :dohh:. It not always as simple as that, but we seem to be getting more sorted now xx

Wish me luck guys, I'm working on a deal that might get me 2 more weeks of leave through disability. I'm still not healed from giving birth and I have a physically demanding job so my midwife wrote a letter signing me off from work. I just need to talk with HR on Monday and see if its enough.

I hope it works out for you:hugs: I feel so bad for all you ladies that have to go back to work so soon.

Hope it works out for you. I couldnt imagine leaving mine and going back to work xxx

Yea I'm starting back next week though I've already been working a few days for a friend (we REALLY need the $). I'm not lOoking forward to it!!

i got back for my transition (work 20, paid for 40) week on the 20th (happy 2nd anniversary to us!). we finally found a nanny for her and this is making going a little less hard. she's fabulous (youth pastor's wife, could we ask for better?) and i know abby will be spoiled and loved.

Hey ladies - has anyone else had the 8 week jabs? How were your LO's affected?

Pickle seems to be much more unsettled :( she won't sleep for any period of time now and is much more whingy :( it's very frustrating :(
