the swimmer is a happy nappy as per the waterbabies instructions - they're ace! she has a normal swimming disposable on underneath then the happy nappy on top and seriously, NOTHING is going to escape from that! the happy nappy is made from wet suit material and is nice and snug around her legs and belly, so even if she poo's it will stay inside

Anyone with experience with a clogged milk duct? I have sharp pain on the armpit side of my left breast. It's been like this for 2 days but I don't have any areas of engorgement. Otherwise it sounds like typical clogged duct. I've been trying to massage that area while feeding but we're at my IL's this weekend so it's harder. I kinda wish I was at home.
Isis has been pretty good. She's been terrible at naps and was thrashing around during the night so I didn't sleep very well. We took a 2.5 hour nap together this afternoon though.
We went to Purdue campus this morning to visit people. DH received 2 degrees from there and I worked there for 3 years so we know quite a few people. Unfortunately most everyone was out in the field. I was able to talk with a former coworker who is 32 weeks pregnant. She's having a boy. It was fun to talk with her about newborn stuff and I told her a little about my labor and delivery experience but it was pretty traumatic so I did gloss over a few things that she didn't need to know.

Gertrude, I wish we had classes like that near us. All they have is regular swim lessons and they start at 4 yo. I need Isis swimming before then. There's too much water around us.

urgh ladies we've had a rotten night

pickle has so much trapped wind (of the fart kind) and she woke herself up with the grunting and pulling her legs up. she's never had it as bad as this, the last 2 nights have been awful but last night was the worse of the two I don't really know how to help her tbh - she farts like a docker in the morning but not at night, she doesn't seem able to get rid of it

and needless to say me and OH are knackered - he was out working last night so didn't get home till 3am, she went to bed at 7 (after a fight), then woke at 11, then at 1, then I got up to let OH in, then she woke again at 5 then got up for the day at 6

anyone got some sleep? this is so unlike her it's horrible she's currently gurgling away on her play mat to her toys

cheeselover i'm afraid i've not had that but i'd keep on with the massage and maybe try expressing after a feed to give your boob a really good massage and make sure its completely empty (i always find can't do it as well with baby attached as he gets annoyed if i move his lunch )

gertrude, we had a couple nights like that few nights back, he only woke twice last night though so hope its similar for you!

I've got a baaad cold , DH has had one all week so I was hoping i'd avoided it, , just hope I don't give it to alex! xx

Gertrude, Lizzie gets like that too, very frustrating. What works for me is I hold her under her arms and then gently force her legs into a squat. That position usually helps her to poo and fart after a few minutes. It's cute because you can actually see the relief in her face after it all comes out. I refer to it as pooping the baby

That position usually helps her to poo and fart after a few minutes. It's cute because you can actually see the relief in her face after it all comes out. I refer to it as pooping the baby

Do you hold her upright? IS she on her side? I hate seeing her like last night we're being much more careful about winding her today but I want to try and make it better for her

I had one when Anberlin was two weeks old. Are you unable to empty the breast or can you completely empty it? If only some will empty but the rest stays clogged, then it's definitely a clogged duct, but be careful, because it could develop into mastitis, like mine did. My advice would be to have your baby latch onto that breast and that breast only until the clog loosens. Pump the other breast. When the clog loosens, it'll look like a grain of sand or a piece of spaghetti. For pain, take Tylenol and use dry hot compresses, especially while feeding. `This will help loosen the clog. Watch for fever and chills though. If these develop, get to a doctor ASAP, as it's likely mastitis. Also, don't be alarmed if your supply drops with a clogged duct or mastitis, as this is common, but I recommend having fenugreek on hand, just in case.

I'm usually sitting up in bed when I do it. So I grab her under the arms and hold her in front of me with her legs dangling down (in a standing position). Then I lower her into a squat position. So she's upright facing me and her legs are bent up. Sometimes if she's really cramped up she'll actually cry because it puts so much pressure on her abdomen but the pressure is what gets things moving. Most of the time there's no crying and she just kind of grunts and tenses as she pushes. I'll try to take a picture when she gets up from her nap. It's basically the same position kids that wear diapers get into when they're pooping. At least my niece and nephew always do it.

I shall definitely try that - although she's swaddled for sleep still and I don't think it'll work swadlled but definitely will try when she's not

Thanks for the help guys! What's puzzling is it seems like my breast is emptying completely but I'm still having pain. I used a heat pad last night. I don't have a whole lot of privacy to pump while feeding. I might try later. We're going to a car show soon.
Brandi, did you still have pain after you cleared the clog?
