Are bumbo seats any good?

Medical advice is that bumbo seats are not good for development of a baby's spine. I figure that they'll sit up when they're ready to sit up and their body has developed sufficiently to allow that. I'm a nurse so I tend to look at the safety of all these things.

This is exactly what I worry about, think I will sit to her bouncy seat.

my neice would sit in hers for hours. we used ours at first when weaning, but he didnt really sit in it for long, as he would try and get himself out of it. we used one of those playring things, that baby can sit in the middle of and its cushioned around, with toys to play on.

this is exactly what we do with audrey too! she loves sitting in it to watch mommy blow dry her hair and put on her makeup

Best thing ever invented, my little girl loves hers! As long as they're not in it for long periods of time I don't think it would interfere with their development.

I brought a bumbo after trying one out at Baby Cafe, and hearing the midwife and HV there say that they're great.

She's a bit young for it yet, she has good head control but her head flops from time to time. I can't wait until she can use it properly.

To be honest though, I didn't buy it as an aid for her to learn to sit up. She's a baby that get's irritated very quickly by lying down, or even reclined in her bouncer. She constantly needs to be held in a sitting position so she can look around! It'll be lovely when I can put her in the bumbo and leave her for a sec so I can nip to the loo without her getting upset!

IMO the best way to help encourage them to sit up is to play games where you pull them into sitting positions and then lower them back down again. Poppy loves that!

As others have said, i haven't got it so he will learn to sit. He wants to sit. While he's in his bouncy chair, he grabs onto the toys hanging above and pulls himself up! I read about the bumbo on here and have only had it 2 days and would 100% reccommend it. xx

Mine isn't to teach her how to sit either. She will only stay in one place/position for so long, so I need a lot of variety for her
