Are closed groups really closed?

I mean when you make a thread that's specially for a group of women (like you were all in a ttc group then want to move over to pregnancy group together) , can you actually make that group so that no one else can post or do you just put "closed" in the title so other women know not to join?

Putting closed in the title will let members know the group is no-longer active but it won't always stop people posting.
