Another thread on here reminded me of a question I've had for a while:

Can anyone tell me what the law says about babies (toddlers? Kids?) in pubs? Can they only be there at certain times? If so, when? You always see kids in weatherspoons for lunch etc, just wondering if they'd have to leave at some point?

It depends on the pubs licance and policy, it's different depending on the pub. Some have to be out by 5, some by 9

I think after 6 or 7pm kids aren't allowed inside the pub but if theres a garden it's fine.

As PP said it varies depending on the type of license held. I used to work in a pub when I was a teenager. We could have children in until about 7pm and then they had to go because we had an entertainment license. Xx

Hi in weatherspoons you have to order food and are only allowed 1 drink with children xx

I actually looked into this after being refused entry to a pub. The law changed with the licensing act 2003 as it was thought to be too confusing before. Children are now allowed in a pub at any time, as long as they're with an adult, regardless of whether food has been ordered. Any other rule a pub has is purely at the landlord's discretion. So though babies are legally allowed in pubs, the landlord is fully entitled to refuse you entry. Most don't, though. We take Isabella to the pub quiz at our local most weeks.

The law is different in Scotland, though.

ive taken my LO to the pub with me at 8pm and still been there by 10pm, didnt even think anything of it until now :haha:

usually kids are not allowed in the bar area. but have a seperate part for families. we have never been refused service anywhere with the kids with us

I think the rules might be different in Scotland. We went into a TGI Fridays a few weeks ago to have a cocktail for my birthday and they refused us because we weren't having food. It was lunchtime.

We go to 3 pubs, different chains.

One we're only allowed to stay until 6pm, the Weatherspoon's until 9pm and a freehouse until 7.30pm. We don't have to order food in any and we are expected (and of course do) to take control of our drinking ourselves.
