Babies that were due in may 2012

I had my 6 week appt today & got the "all clear"!

I'm going to have the 5 year IUD put in in 4 weeks. The pill was an option, but after being on it for so long, I've gotten spoiled with not having to take it. I'm hoping I have good (no complications & no accidental pregnancy) with the IUD.

Anti: I had a copper IUD inserted today. I had one before I got preggo, and no issues with it for the 8 years that I had one. I will say the insertion of the IUD after having a baby is SOOOOO much easier than before baby!!!

Txmom: why wait 4 weeks? I had mine in today at 7 weeks pp.

I found out why my nipples are so sore! I have a yeast infection in the tissue and ducts... and its probably the reason that Gabe started refusing last weekend.

Bumpin, hope the yeast infection clears up!! How annoying!! It's nice to hear that the IUD works well for you!! People tend to tell you horror stories about it and you never hear how well it works for loads of other people. I'm still undecided. I'm terrified of the thought of something going into me and staying there for several years. This might be tmi but I had a feel around down there and it's kind of like bobbly (don't know how to describe it) where I tore. It was only 1st degree but it feels like I was stitched up funny or something. Doesn't feel right on the outside. Will the doc look at my bits down there when I go for my check up?

Anti: I dont know what the standard is for the UK, but I dont think my dr would have a look at the lady bits unless I said I had a concern. I imagine if you tell your dr that you have a concern about your tear, they will take a look for you. As for the IUD, this is my 3rd. its been my favourite form of birth control, as its easy, you dont have to think about it much, only to check for your strings following AF, the side effects are minimal (for me, anyways) and because the copper one is non hormonal, when you decide to have another baby, there is no waiting period for your cycles to straighten out. I had a positive pregnancy test 2 weeks following the removal of my IUD. I know of quite a few women that have had a hard time conceiving following hormonal forms

Zephyr -I hope you get things sorted soon, it must be so frustrating for her and you.

Anti - I'm on the mini pill and was before ttc and never had any problems and got preggers on my first cycle coming off the pill. I really like it because I don't have periods on the mini pill but I know not everyone likes it.

Yazzy - no wonder you are having a hard time with the breast feeding. This is why I stopped as well. I got an infection and couldn't feed properly, Sam wasn't happy and it made me very unhappy. I tried pumping but never got very much, so switched to formula. So glad we did because life is so much better for all of us. Wish I could have BF but I see so many that can't so try not to beat myself up.

AFM: We had our first weekend away and it went really well. My LO got to sleep in a travel cot for the first time and loved it. My DH family gave us our cot to take home (will get it on Friday when DH comes back) and keep telling us to put the cot in LO room, even though we have room in our master for a cot. Not sure what to do, I know you should keep LO in your bedroom for 6 months but LO is so noisy in his sleep I am considering it. He also had his first train ride and he did so well considering it was 5 1/2 hours in total with 2 changes. The more difficult part was I was by myself so had to carry him in a carrier, his car seat, and his weekend away bag, but I managed better than I thought I would.

Also while away we have found out that it is getting harder for LO to settle at 'bedtime'. He is paying attention to everything now so will only go to sleep at night if the room is dark and silent, but it looks like he is wanting to sleep at 9pm (way before we want to go to sleep). So tonight I took him up at 9 and he woke up as I put him in the basket. I thought he wanted the bottle so went and got one and by the time I came back he was fast asleep, I couldn't believe he feel asleep on his own. So now I am using the baby monitor for the first time and he has been asleep on his own for 20 min without a peep.

He is 8 weeks tomorrow so has his immunisations. Not looking forward to that at all.

My OB said that she does them 8-10 weeks post-delivery. I'm technically only 5 1/2 weeks out. (I'm not sure as to why she waits that long.......)

We put Gemma in her crib, in her room, @ 4 weeks. Believe it or not WE ALL sleep MUCH better! She's also a noisy sleeper, very squirmy and grunts a lot. We use the video monitor and I feel @ ease!

I was thinking about IUD but not sure. OH is meant to be getting the snip but theres been no plans made, don't think he wants to anymore cos the subject has been dropped now that its time to start looking at it. I am going to have to bring that up some time!

Aria and Max had their newborn hearing screen done today. Max passed. Aria didn't :(
The lady said we would have to go back for a 3 hour diagnostic test because she got no responses at all out of one of her ears!
To make things worse I started getting all teary eyed! and then after telling me we would be waitin about a month to see the specialist and for me to try not to worry she then gave me the option of redoing the test we did today 'just in case there was fluid in her ear which will clear by the next test hopefully.
So we go back in two weeks to get it redone and then if the same happens again we have to get a 3 hour test done with the specialist.
Uggh I hope it was just fluid, I'm deaf in one ear since I can remember and although it hasn't affected my life a great deal it has been quite annoying and prevented me from doing a few things I wanted to do when I was younger.
The family history leaves me feeling a little less hopeful. I'm just glad one ear passed at least.
Still waiting for the ped appointment grrrr

kwood - awesome with the sleeping! hope he keeps that up, good luck with the immunisations :)

Zephyr I know it's hard but try not to worry! Ashlynn failed 4 times before she finally passed it. She had fluid in her ears.

We also have ashlynn in her own room. OH sleeps better and probably ashlynn but I wake at the slightest noise and she's a noisy sleeper!!

Awh that makes me feel a bit better! I'm glad she passed in the end :D I hope it is just fluid, my poor girl, I feel so bad for her. If its not the feeding issues its something else! She has had two colds already and just seems so sickly all the time! I've never had these problems with any of my babies, so I just feel really bad for Aria.

On the upside, each day on the pepti junior seems like she is improving a bit more.

Had them both weighed today and Max put on 500 grams and Aria put on 300 grams in 2 weeks :D

Glad they putting on weight. You're doing something right!! Well done. I'm sure it'll all get better from now. You're doing a great job!! I take my hat off to you coz twins must be so hard!!

Waves - what a gorgeous family you have! I cannot get over how much hair Hannah has, too cute!!:flower:

How long are your LO's sleeping for at a time @ night? Gemma's "routine" changes every few days, just when I think I may have it (timing) figured out, she throws me a curve ball!:tease:

Thanks :)

Right now she's sleeping anywhere from 3-6 hours at night. She has her last feed anywhere between 9 & 11 so depending on how long it takes us to get her to sleep, she usually wakes up between 3:30 and 5:30am.

Waves I was just thinking of you and Hannah today coz hadn't heard from you in a while. Glad to hear she's sleeping so well!! That's amazing!! Well done. Hope you're feeling better to!! Xx

hey ladies, hope you're all well!

i was also going to ask the uk ladies about the 6wk check - do they look at your lady parts if you had stitches? I hope not - i've had enough of baring my bits!

do any of you ladies plan to return to work. we were working out our finances this wk & have come to the conclusion i have to return to work when Eva is 5 or 6months as we just can't afford to live without my salary. The thought of her being with a childminder breaks my heart but there's no other way. Even when i return to work, with the cost of childcare we will just be scraping by, it's a nightmare. I don't know what it means for weaning & bf-ing, I guess i better starting expressing & freezing a milk supply......

rjsmam - at my 6 week check she said she only checks if you have concerns. I didn't so she didn't check (plus I have a smear coming up anyway, so would guess if something was a miss they would let me know)

I have to go back to work as well. I plan on staying off until the SMP stops (I get 20% of my salary as well as SMP for 33 weeks + the 6 weeks at 90%). We moved house in December so there is no way we could afford for me not to work. I would love to be a SAHM but it was a decision we made in order to have a more comfortable home. I just makes me sad how much childcare cost and that I will miss so much of his life (I think I will make more on mat leave than when I go back to work and paying childcare). I think we will be able to afford for me to work a 4 day week but will have to see.

Sam took his shots like a champ, a little cry at the first one and the second nearly made me cry. He did the cry where his face went bright red, mouth wide open but no sound for what felt like forever, then the heart breaking scream. However, he was asleep in my arms within seconds and has been sleeping most of the day since.

thanks Kwood - i've also got a smear apmnt to make - oh the glamours!

it's just frustrating how expensive everything is right now isn't it, fuel, food, etc, even the basics are costly. and childcare, wow, we could pay a whole other mortgage on top of the one we've got with the cost

on another subject, Eva is maybe having a growth spurt - she 's been draining both breasts then looking for more & getting really grumpy when there isn't any. it's been happening mostly in the evenings but also happended this afternoon, i though my supply would have increased to match her insatiable appetite by now. I worry that i'm not making enough for her... i guess there's always something to worry about huh

:) just been busy. Hannah only seems to be able to nap while laying on me so I'm glued to the couch most of the day. I don't think I've been on my laptop in a week haha.

Hannah's 2 months old today! I can't believe it. The time is just flying by. She has her 2 month appointment/shots next week which I'm not really looking forward to but oh well.

I'm returning to work part-time the week of July 15 (I'm having 4 teeth pulled the week before.) I'm only available 6-10pm Monday-Thursday and it's retail so I'm not sure how much I'll actually be working but we won't have to worry about childcare which is nice.

I'm a teacher so luckily Gemma will be 3 months when I go back to work.

What does full-time childcare cost on average where you all live?

It's about $850 per month here. We're so lucky that with the help of my Mom we're only having to pay for childcare for 2 days each week. Although since its a private Sitter with one-on-one care we're still going to be paying a pretty penny. It's high but I'd do anything to know she's in good hands & not being left in a crib all day @ a daycare full of babies.

Where I live (the cost varies across the country) for full time day care it is 800 pounds a month which is $1245 a month. Plus the salaries don't tend to be as good in the UK as in the U.S.; mainly due to taxes and various other reasons, but there are more benefits in UK like universal health care, maternity leave etc. (I'm American and worked in the U.S. from ages 15 to 26 until I moved to the UK 5 years ago).

yep so far my research shows it to be around £200 per wk for childminders

Tx are you returning full time too?
