Baby clothes.

My son was 8lb 3oz and in newborn for 4 weeks then went into 0-3.

My daughter was 7lb 1oz and in tiny baby from birth, newborn started fitting better around 2/3 weeks, tiny baby was outgrown by 6 weeks and she was in newborn/up to one month until 3 months.

If you get them from mothercare newborn is upto 10lb in there so it's kind of inbetween first size and 0-3, asda, next ect are 7lb something newborn, I always find you can get away with them wearing it when there 1lb or so above the recommended weight too x

When you say newborn clothes, is that first size(up to 7lb 8oz) or up to 1 month(up to 10lb) because I have plenty of clothes up to 10lb, it's just stocking up on the 7lb 8oz clothes I'm wary of because babies can be born over that!:flower:
But thanks for the advice so far ladies, money isn't really the issue we can afford more first size, but 7lb 8oz seems such a small limit I didn't think it would be worth it:shrug: I do have plenty of family around if I need more, but it's better to be prepared beforehand, one less thing to worry about!

I think they're one and the same personally! My lg was 8lbs at birth, and some of the 'tiny baby' stuff fitted her (well, everything we bought in that size did), it looked a bit smaller than the newborn/one month stuff. I bought the tiny baby size on a friends recommendation, just from mothercare, she had a 9lb odd baby and she said she needed it for the first few weeks...

In fact, the 0-3 she's wearing at the minute says up to 11lbs, and she's 13+ now, so I'm not sure the weight gauge really means anything.

Even if your baby doesn't fit them, they're so cute to look at aren't they!! And if you leave the tags on, you could take them back and change for a bigger size :)

X

Didn't think about taking them back for some reason?! .. I could wash what I would need for a few days worth of first size and them keep the rest with tags on, if I need them remove and wash and if I don't need them return them for a bigger size. Thank you bumphope, at least of us is switched on:blush:
And thanks everyone, I suppose the weight limits are the same as age limits really. My daughter is 3 and wearing 4-5 clothes(she has always been tall and thin). Better hearing it from other peoples more recent experience with their L/Os clothes:flower:

My daughter was 7 pounds and was in newborn cloths for about a month. My son is only 5 days old and he was 6 pounds and is super small and we ended up buying him more newborn clothes because 0-3 months clothes are way too big on him.

My baby girl is 12 weeks old now and was born on her due date weighing 8lb4oz. For the first 4 weeks she wore first size clothes and mostly babygros as everyone is right when they say thats all you use! At 12 weeks she is now fitting easily into 0-3 month and upto 3 month clothes and is also starting to fit into 3-6 month.. although coats for some reason are a different story!! Still in the upto 1 month fur coat.. strange!

Dont buy too much because I am currently experiencing the sheer disappointment when they grow out of the lovely clothes!

It's so hard to stop yourself from shoving their chub into your favourite little newborn outfit that they only wore a couple of times!! There's people on Facebook that take your old baby clothes and turn them into like personalised teddies, cushions ect (you could probably Google it and find people close by that do it) it's a lovely idea im going to get one done with all of dd pretty little things x

Annabel was 8lb9 at birth, she wore newborn for 2 weeks. 0-3 til about 8/10 weeks, now she's in 3-6 lol xx

We had a stock of newborn clothes, and I just kept the tags on all of it. Good thing too, because LO was 9.13 at birth and went right into 3 month clothes :)

And at 4 1/2 months, he's into 12 or 18 month depending on the brand. 3 month only lasted a month or so.

Different shops brand things differently. DD1 was 7lb 13 and DD2 was 7lb 15. To start they both wore matalan tiny baby and Asda first size. The matalan Tiny baby they outgrew at about 2 weeks and asda first size around 3-4 weeks. Next first size did til just over a month. They both then wore 0-3 months until just before 3 months (again, I noticed next sleepsuits and vests did longer...asda 0-3 didn't fit them past 2 months old). They have both moved into 6-9 month clothes at 4.5 months :haha:

I really think it depends on where you shop...and also the shape of the baby. My daughters are both long babies but quite skinny so I think next fits them best. Asda clothes tend to get too short on them much faster xx

I totally agree with next being best for longer babies, my daughter was 21.5 inches at birth and weighed 7lb 3.5 ounces and next have been by far the best fitting clothes. She's 4 weeks now and next up to 1 month and mothercare tiny baby/newborn still for perfectly. Like your daughters, she is long and skinny and most other brands drown her because they are too wide!

I had hardly any newborn clothes and mostly 0-3 month clothes. The important part is that they're warm, not that the clothes fit perfectly. It seemed like a bit of a waste to get the tiny clothes that would fit for hardly any time. We also used a lot of gowns early on. If you roll the sleeves down, the fit on the rest, doesn't matter too much. They're also really convenient for the super frequent diaper changes. If I put her in the carrier or the car to go somewhere, I'd just pop a pair of pants under the gown. I am not buying new baby clothes this time around and plan to just use primarily gowns with some sleep suits and the occasional Onesie.
