Does anyone's baby have a different pronunciation? My parents cannot get my kid's names right!!

They are
Alexandre (alex- ahnd) - the re are silent
Philippe (feel- eep) - not 'fill-ip'

xanthia (zanthia)

she gets called all sorts..

most have opted for boris because she looks like boris johnson :dohh: x

Oopsie. I've pronounced your eldest boys name as Alex-an-dree.

But Philippe I've pronounced correctly. :)

BUT. My sons great grand mother still calls him Ryan. Sigh. :haha:

Kind of... my LO is called Emilia, but soooo many people call her Amelia. Its fine when we go to Poland as Emilia is a well known name there (DH is Polish) but over here no-one gets it lol. Really...not hard...like Emily but with ia and the end instead of y:haha:

My boy is called Rafe (rhymes with 'safe'). We chose to spell it the German way instead of the English way (Ralph) as we thought everyone would pronounce it to rhyme with 'self'. But now people seem to think it is said 'Raff-ay', to rhyme with 'cafe'. Sigh. You can't win.

Lol I said "Rafe" in my head reading that :haha: I'm horrible with different names.

I always thought the above spelling of Alexandre was pronounced Alexarndreh, if you get me? So I got that wrong. I got Philippe right!

Honestly in my head I would have said Alex andre (like the singer peter andre) and Phil eep ay :dohh:

Caitlyn gets "Kate Luhn" a lot.

Xander = Zander

People actually think we have made up the name and are surprised when we point out that simply adding 3 letters to it it becomes Alexander! We also use this as an example of how to pronounce it. This is then usually followed by so is Alexander his actual name? No!!

I have always had my name mispronounced and grew so tired of people saying "Oh that's an interesting spelling...is your mom French or something?" that I picked a name that is virtually impossible to pronounce. If anyone doesn't know how to pronounce Abigail then I just give up.

My grandparents couldnt remember the name Jordyn they thought it was so different and i HATE when people assume she is boy when i say her name is Jordyn and she's clearly in PINK!

but i kinda had it coming to me when we choose the name Jordyn lol

Last time i seen my grandmother she told me she rememeber Jordyns name FINALLY because Jesus was born in the river of Jordan or something lol who knows i'm not that religious! lol

Haha I figured most people would say my boy's names wrong.... they are French ;)

My parents call them AJ and PJ and oh gosh it makes my blood boil (their middle names are Joseph and Jay).

Yes, I named my son Philippe Jay.

Named after........

Ah really? Are you from here or French from Ontario?

I'm from New Brunswick :)! Last name is Latour ... very french last name.

I come from a place where most people speak half english half french to each other... were weird like that! lol

My DD1 is miah (me-ah) but she is forever getting called mya

Same as my LO. I actually thought it was a really common name, which I wanted as my name's so uncommon, but nobody here can pronounce it. People comment on how interesting it is...

We are a family of hard to pronounce names I guess

I think I had your pronunciations right, but I thought there was a very subtle implied "ruh" at the end of Alexandre (hopefully that makes sense, I'm sure there must be a real term for it but I don't know what it is...)

Elsie is pretty straightforward thankfully, though a lot of people do invert the letters and try to call her Elise.
