I have a Finley too, I find alot of people spell it findley or finnley, but the thing that gets me the most is Finlaaaaaay! I'm from the Black Country but don't speak like it but it bugs me when people pronounce his name like this!

Further to my previous post, I took my Lo to the Drs this morning. Obviously on the system his name is Xander and on they're records it has to be his legal name, not a nickname. What does the Dr call him, Alexander!!! That's not his name!!!

Sorry, I was getting it wrong! Isla is island in Spanish pronunced "ees-lah" so I always thought it was the same

Same as my LO. I actually thought it was a really common name, which I wanted as my name's so uncommon, but nobody here can pronounce it. People comment on how interesting it is...

Haha everyone always comments when I spell her name as we put a 'h' at the end as its not the done thing in Scotland I think it's more America, I thought it was a uncommon name as that's what I wanted but turns out their were 3 Mia's born in our village around the same time as they are all in the same class at school lol, but her teachers constantly call her mya, she is very quick to correct them haha

DD2 is Georgia but for some reason people call her Georgina?? There is no 'n' in her name lol

Well I have a Castiel, so unless they're fellow SPN fans, it's "Casteeel" (supposed to be pronounced "Cass - tee - ell") or worse, they assume his surname is his first name (Byrom).

Oh and my doctors surgery first had him down as female, we've kept the NHS card with those details, I found it quite hilarious xD

I always thought that Tanwen was kind of self explanatory- you say it as you see it: Tan-wen with short vowels (so 'ah' and 'eh' not 'ay' and 'ee')! However, she's often called Tanwyn or even Tamwen or Tamwyn! I wouldn't mind so much but in Welsh it's the suffix that tells the gender so TanWYN would be a boy's name whilst TanWEN is the girl's version!

My daughters full name is easily pronounced. Cathryn. Yet we call her Catey. So when ppl call for her we get variations of Cat-eee instead of Kay-tee.. which is how its pronounced. We've also had ppl assume her full name is Caitlyn, simply from how we spell Catey xx

Ha, I have a finlAy, but it's still pronounced the same as Finley, I do wonder if his whole life people will spell it Finley, which is the more common spelling in the south *where we are* we have a Scottish last name though and wanted to go down the traditional route. The spelling Finnleigh kills me Sorry if anyone uses it!

My doctors have got DD down as male lol. I think they just presumed that being called Parker meant she was a boy

People call Joni (pronounced joanie) johnny all the time. The nurse even 'kindly' changed the gender to male on the computer last time I was there. I love the name Joni (obviously haha) but I hope she doesn't mind that it gets pronounced wrong a lot. X

My son is ozzy but its pronounced o-zah....lol, kidding!

I grew up with a name nobody could ever get right. Nicia pronounced nee-cha
I always got a million variations but never the correct one! I loved having a unique name though so I made sure to give my son a very easy to pronounce and spell unique name.
Of course people still insist on spelling his name Ozzie no matter how many times they see it spelt with a y!!
