Baby name pronunciations

No one's pronounced it wrong because Lucas is obviously quite straight forward but it's surprising how my step mum can't spell it....even when it's written somewhere infront of her she'll still write 'Lucus' which I find really irritating :haha:

No problems with Quinton yet but OH's grandmother can't say it so she calls him "da boyz" (the boy). :haha: Yiayia, bless her.

So far we've had no trouble with Riley's name, save the great grandmothers throwing a collective hissy fit over us naming our daughter "a boy's name". Lol, I thought all three of them were going to band together and disown us! Oh, unless we count the automated appointment reminder at the pediatrician's office, which insists on pronouncing her "really". Hahahah!

I am certain that her middle name, Kathryn, will cause her trouble, if for nothing else than the spelling. We've already had Catherine, Katherin, and Catheryn. Odd part is that all of those are pronounced differently, Riley's is KATH-ryn, two syllables, and the others are all Kath-er-ine, three.

Yay! Another girl Riley :happydance: I'm sure my grandmother feels the same way about Riley being "a boys name", but she hasn't said anything to me yet.

I get all my kids names pronounced wrong. They're Turkish names and spelt the Turkish way, so it's a little confusing. My eldest ds is called Kaya which is pronounced Kai-ah. Mist tend to call him Kay-a until I correct them. Once they know e pronounciation his name is pretty easy to say. My twin boys are Kaan (pronounced Khan) and Kerem (pronounced Keh-rem) again I get all sorts of pronounciation. My little girl is Aylin which is pronounced I-Lin, but she gets called Aiy-Lin. Funnily enough I tried so hard to choose names that would be pronounced easily so ey wouldn't have trouble with their names while at school, like I did, yet people still get their name wrong!

There's only really one way to pronounce Noah but still OHs grandmother always manages to pronounce it nu-ah lol.

You'd think my boys' names would be easy. OH's mother says Domenic but she is Cypriot so maybe that is just her accent. A friend of mine actually thought to spell Sebastian Sebastion which really upsets me cause it sounds just awful!

My eldest is Emilia and is constantly called Amelia. We even had an airline company phone us and tell us we had spelt our daughters name wrong!

"Boys" names for girls are so cute! My mum's cousins daughter...her name is Dylan and it suits her so well.

2 of my friends have caoihme's pronounced kee-vah it's Irish I alway read it as ki-omi ( naiomi with a k) lol x

Amelie AH-MI-LEE

Roman ROH-MIN

think it just depends on accents etc but thats how I pronounce my babies names.

I'm pretty sure Catherine is just pronounced KATH-RIN too. Ive never ever heard that name (or any variation of it) being pronounced with 3 syllables.

Nobody could get ruby or Scarlett wrong but we've had some odd spellings. Rubys middle name is rosemary, pronounced rose-Mary not rose-Marie only because it was my grandma's middle name and she said it like that.

I hate it when I get peoples name pronounciations wrong!

I'm Katya, but people always call me Katy. I don't know why and they continue to do it even if i correct them.

DD is Emily and DS is Logan so they haven't got a problem there fortunately!

Not so much with the pronunciation but we get a lot of different spellings, we knew Laeyla (Lay-la) would be a 'problem' as we spelt it diffrently:coffee:. When she was in hospital they kept calling her Lee-la or Lie-la. So far for the spellings of Maisie we have had: Maisy, Maisey, Maizie, Maysie, Mazee. It annoys me when as a pp said they have received something from us with the correct spelling. My name is Emma and I used to have an aunt say and spell it Emmha .

When I was at school I got kicked out of class because I told the teacher my name didn't have an 'h' on the end. She wrote it on the board as 'Emmah'. Only time anyone's got my name wrong :haha:

Julian's easy to pronounce, but we always get 'Julien' in emails, cards etc.

My daughter's name is Aerith (pronounced air-ith), and when I say her name to people I they usually think I'm saying either "Erin" or "Eric." She's only 2 1/2 weeks old so I better get used to it. :dohh:

So far, people haven't mispronounced her name when they see it written first, but my mom said that she thinks people might think it's pronounced "arr-ith."

At a breastfeeding group the nurse pronounced danis name 'dan-ay' and kept spelling it 'dane' lol wth?
She constantly gets "oh ok so danielle/daniella her full name?" or spelling it with 2 ns. Doesnt really bother me though, they can think what they want lol

My daughters name is Lyra. Pronounced leer-ah. Its how my husband pronounced it when he first saw the name. I know the 'correct' pronunciation is lie-ra and I had considered spelling it different but either way her name would get mispronounced, so we decided to go with the spelling we liked. My poor girl is definitely gonna be correcting people in the future, but I love her name and I hope she does too.

You wouldn't think anyone could mispronounce Imogen would you? MIL reckons she'd never heard of it before LO was born and still sometimes calls her im-OH-gen with a hard 'g' (rhymes with Hogan) instead of IM-uh-juhn :dohh:

But what should I expect from someone called Ianthe?

Prounounce that then!
