.... get one?

I know TFL have designed them for use on the tube but I get the overground and it would be useful for people to realise I am pregnant, not just a bit podgy (bump quite small at the moment). Its not just about being offered a seat, its about people being a little bit more respectful. for instance, one lady barged me out of the way to get on the train first and I was so angry. Maybe if she had seen the badge, she may have been a little more polite. I just feel people push and barge and its horrible when you are pregnant.

On the other hand, I would feel silly wearing one at only 18 weeks pregnant.

I know they are designed for the tube but I think they would be handy for all forms of transport.

What are peoples views? xx

You can get a badge to wear on your body? I never heard of it!

Never heard of it either, but I don't catch public transport either, but people are always so ignorant, would they even notice the badge?

Yeh, its an initiative for London that was supposed to raise awareness of pregnant women. If you work in Central London you are likely to travel from a reasonable distance outside London and get the tube / bus / train or all three! Transport here in London is always VERY busy.

I got one of these when i was pregnant first time round. I only took the overground in London but was always packed.

If i remember correctly I went into the underground bit one day and asked about it. i think they gave me a form to send off, either that or i applied online for it. either way it arrived in the post.

I wore mine very early on from 14 weeks i think. I suffered very bad cramps all the way through-so bad i had to use ice packs. So when running for a train they got worse and i really needed that seat.

If in doubt i used to bloat my tummy out.

Hi girls,

I have one (but never had the guts to use it!). You just have to ask at the tube stations and they will give you one. I have seen several women wearing them in the past few months. I am lucky that I usually get a seat and now people are noticing so have offered me one a couple of times. People are definitely more considerate when they see your bump (I've found) and often actively avoid you!!

Ooooh what a cow! I get so angry with people like that, its as if there the only busy person in the world! Grrrr!!!

If i was using the tube, id defo wear it! Theres no shame in being pregnant and you need to do your utmost to ensure your safe all the time!

I dont have one or need one but i remember people talking about it last time...sounds like a good idea

I'd never heard of these but they're a great idea! I would def get/wear one if I got public transport in a busy place esp London, it's a nightmare and you're likely to get barged about. Wear it with pride, I would! :) xx

Might make you a slighly easier target if a would be mugger knows your pregnant.
I know Jo wouldnt wear one.

I was given one of those when I was over in Japan. No-one ever offered up a seat on the buses or on the train even in the priority seats. Admittedly my bump wasn't huge then, but I find people using public transport just oblivious to everything and everyone so I doubt they'd notice the badge. I guess you could always shove it in their faces if they don't give up a seat but then those kind of people probably wouldn't move for elderly or disabled passengers either.:growlmad:

I haven't heard of them, and to be honest I don't think it would change how people treat you. I still have people barge past me to get to a seat before me, when I'm so obviously pregnant. Those who are treating you like this will treat you like this even if they know you're pregnant. Being pregnant opened my eyes to how rude people can be. A few weeks ago I had to give up my seat for an old lady because nobody else would. She tried to argue with me, but I made her take the seat. At the end of the day, I'm still more able to stand than she is, but other people should have got off their asses first.

Not sure about for use on the tube/subway, but I am seriously considering getting a larger one to slap on my back for when I'm cycling around town!
:flower:

No I would feel a bit embarressed to wear one, mind you other people in shopping malls, stations, etc are so oblivious to the fact that you are pregnant and rudely push pass and not hold doors etc anyway that even if you had a belisha beacon on your head you still wouldnt get noticed. Thats the great british public for ya. :)

I ordered mine yesterday by phoning TFL customer services. I shall be wearing it with pride.. life on the central line is not fun when you're not pregnant it's doubly crap when you are! I shall also wear mine on the overground/DLR and buses... :)

omg thats really bad. i know there are a lot of people who wouldnt give there seat up but for everyone to be happy for a pregnant woman to give up her seat is awful. i would actuallly feel ashamed if i was one of the people to sit and watch.

Ive just got one of these! I just went to one of the main stations and asked and they gave them to me there. As I look very young (22 but look about 16!) I find people give me really dirty looks when Im on a bus and Im not the first person to offer my seat to the elderly, so Im hoping the badge might help that.

But also Im 23 weeks pregnant and Ive barely got a bump so I just look a bit podgy and unless I told people (or were to wear a badge!) people wouldnt be any the wiser, so instead of me being grumpy about them not offering their seat Im just making them aware, and then I can be grumpy if they dont offer their seat! It can be a little embarressing wearing it (theyre bigger than I thought lol) but I just pin it to my bag :)
