Baby screams everytime I put clothes over his head :(

He is 4 months and since day one he has always screamed and freaked out when I try putting t-shirts/sweaters or anything going on top of his head. At this point he never wears sweaters without buttons for this reason.
I am concerned cause at the beginning I thought it was a NB thing and he is now 4 months and doing the same....

Its like he is traumatized with anything covering his head/eyes. I try doing it very gentle, singing while doing it, making it like a game, etc. but nothing works.

Am I the only mom going through this???

nope - my daughter is the same- i am considering taking her to cranial oestherapy as she was forceps delivery.

Have u tried putting his face in the hole then pulling the back down over the back of his head? You probably have I'm sure but just thought I'd say. I play with isabella, I hold the hole of the top and put my face in it and talk to her through it, then put her face in it so all I need to do is pull the back down over her head. She gets more annoyed with me taking her fist out of her mouth to put through the arms x

That's a very good idea about talking to him trough the hole...like putting my face there so he can see me. I haven't tried that yet but will try next clothes change!

I do exactly the same thing!

He hates me putting any tops on him, but this i worked out was the easiest way ( much easier than walking about with a naky baby lol)

Think the more silly you look the more they like it!!!!

My LO is the same and has been for ages. She hates having her tops put on and also hates putting her arms in.
Dont know why and its not every time but I now do it gradually and make a huge deal of her when she puts her head in and make a game of it which seems to help.

I though it was maybe that I was kinda squeezing her head as I was doing it????

Also I only put lose tops on her none with tight head holes or arms which helps.

Same problem here, he is fine putting cardigans on, but anything over his head.. vests, t-shirts, jumpers, he throws a fit! he started doing this from 3.5 months onwards, same with his terrible sleeping patterns hmmm.. very odd x

we have the same problem - with all clothing.
mum says it is due to 'traumatic birth' but I am sure thats an old wives tale...
LO is now 7mths and still screams the house down and now rolls away from me half dressed.
sitting her up helps with things over her head a bit - especially with the TV on as distraction.

Nims not a fan of stuff over her head, I'm a mean mummy and just get on with it as fast and as gently as possible, the sooner it's over the sooner she gets a cuddle!

Holly's not a big fan either, but we put the hole over her face first then pull the back down and do "peep-o" at the same time, making a game of it, sometimes she even laughs!

yes same here, but it doesnt help when clothes shops dont make the neck size big enough for a babys head to go through and you end up having to stretch the top to the point of ripping

Same here. He's never been a fan of anything on his face. I never had to worry about blankets in his crib because he'd never let them be over his head or face. I try to make the shirt dressing into a game of peek-a-boo, so he's not as bothered by it.

Yup! Elijah used to cry about it, and then I started scrunching the clothes up to the head hole, and quickly passing it over his head. I'll also talk him through it the entire time ("Hands in the sleeves, time to get dressed!"). Seems to work for me, he only gets a little fussy.

I'll get the crying if I've accidentally grabbed something a little too small and it doesn't fit over his head, or I have to undress him, again. He's already getting into 3 to 6 month clothes, at barely two months!

LO was like this when he was tiny but then it stopped and lately it's been the same it's starts when i lift his head up to get the top over his head, he screams as if it really hurts, he then screams when i put his arms in.

Sitting him up does help but not much cause he just reaches up for cuddles
