Please recommend some books for my soon to be 2 year old! He LOVES books and we need to get some new ones for his birthday and Christmas.

(If you hate reading the book though, please don't recommend it. Thanks! ;))

Sophie likes "Who's Making That Mess?" (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0794516947?pc_redir=1410522351&robot_redir=1) and other flap books like the Spot the Dog ones.

Both kids enjoy Green Eggs and Ham. They seem to enjoy the cadence of the words.

Hairy Maclary is another character she enjoys in books.

She mainly likes things with large pictures and little reading. She likes to name the things she recognises. She doesn't like 'traditional' stories at all, like Jack and the Beanstalk.

I'll second the Spot the Dog series.

DD absolutely adores the Baby Lit books, and I do too. They're great board books, the illustrations seem to really draw her in.

Eric Carle's books (Brown Bear, Brown Bear; Hungry Caterpillar, etc.) are also great.

My LO loves the Jane Hissey old bear books. He also likes Julia Donaldson books like the gruffalo and Tiddler.

All the simpler Oliver Jeffers books like Up and Down, Lost and Found, How To Catch A Star, etc.

My LO has loved the Maisy Mouse books since he was about six months old and still does.

These books are fantastic too, they celebrate growing up. https://www.amazon.com/Can-Do-Myself-Empowerment-Series/dp/1419704001

And another vote for the Hairy McClairy series too.

Another vote for the Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler books. My boys love them! They especially like Stick Man and Highway Rat at the moment but the all time favourite, which they ask for again and again is Tabby McTat.
And the Lynley Dodd books on Hairy Maclary and Slinky Malinki are hugely popular here too.

My 2 year old niece loves the gruffolo books, she has all of them. She also likes the Maisy books too.

Rory adores Each Peach Pear Plum, Peepo, Cops and Robbers, The Smartest Giant in Town, Monkey Puzzle, The Alfie Stories, Harry Potter (seriously), The Gruffalo.... Well he loves all books but those are the ones I am reading him so much atm that I can recite them in my sleep!

Another vote for Tabby McTat, Micah is obsessed and I like reading it too it's a nice story.

A less known Eric Carle one that I love is 'Papa please get the moon for me', the pages have fold out portions for the long ladder etc, it's really lovely.

All the Dr Seuss books are a big hit with Micah, his favourite is Fox in Socks, which is lovely but my goodness is it a mouthful! Not one for when you're tired! E.g.
Try to say this, Mr. Knox, please....

Through three cheese trees three free fleas flew.
While these fleas flew, freezy breeze blew.
Freezy breeze made these three trees freeze.
Freezy trees made these trees' cheese freeze.
That's what made these three free fleas sneeze.

My daughter's favourites lately have been

Rod Campbell - I'm hungry, Noisy Farm

Mem Fox - Ten little fingers and ten little toes (this book is super cute and the baby at the end of the story gets kissed on the nose and so does my LO :))

All Spot and Hairy Maclary books

The three billy goats gruff? Not sure if the story is the same in english, but it's a funny story in norwegian!

One book called 'my glittery learning book' with pages for counting, abc's, shapes, foods, clothes, colours, opposites etc.

Little Mates books - not sure where these are available, I think they were bought in Australia but my dd loves them.

I'm going to have to find this Tabby McTat book now!

Oh yes Mem Fox' Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes is another old time favourite. They don't ask for it as often now but they still love it. I think we are on the 4th reincarnation of it as Dominic is such a ripper.

Each peach pear plum is a big hit here and her fav book which makes me laugh is the junior dictionary with pictures. Tickles me when she sits reading it and always bringing it to me. Lets just say we have both learnt a lot from it! :winkwink: always the way a cheapy from a car boot!

Charlotte is on 20 months but her favourite books at the moment are Wow Said the Owl and Tip Tap Went the Crab both by Tim Hopgood. They are great for reading and very interactive and fun to read as a parent x

I've been reading this to my son since he was 1 but I'm sure 2 year olds will love it: The very hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle.

some of the boys favorites:

The Little Critter collection. We have a ton of the books, and they LOVE them
Berenstain Bears collection. We have some of these, again they love them
If YOu Give a Mouse a cookie
Dragons Love Tacos
The Gruffalo
Disney Storybook collection (the big book with 5 minute stories)
Are You Ticklish
Look and Find Books. We have a few of the Disney ones from the Disney store, and they really like them
Dr Seuss collection
Elmo is SO big
Picture Books. DS2 still loves these, to point out words he knows and have me tell him new words

The "love underpants" stories are good too..

My nursery class love them .. aliens love underpants and pirates love underpants..

Right around her 2nd birthday my DD really fell in love with the Pigeon Books by Mo Willems.

"Don't let the pigeon drive the bus"
"The Pigeon needs a bath"
"The Pigeon finds a hot dog"

Mo Willems also writes the Knuffle Bunny books which are awesome too.

The best part is, the books are funny and so enjoyable to read. Even my DH loves them!!!

This is a great list of some of the new books that are really great if you've already got a lot of the classic ones

We've read to DS since he came home from the hospital and he absolutely loves when a book has a rhythm to it, that being said, he likes the Julia Donaldson (Author of the Gruffalo, Room on the Broom & the Highway Rat) and the 'Loves Underpants' books.

We've recently bought a collection of Roald Dahl books and he likes the sound and flow of those stories too (we're just enjoying Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and we read one or two chapters a night, though I can't say that I think that he remembers where the story left off the night before, as he's only 16 mths old.

You could always take your LO to the library and get books from there too, maybe get an idea of some favourites?

Oh we go to the library about once a week. He likes to run around though which makes it hard to look. I just wanted to see which ones other people love so we can try those. Thanks!
