Bigger Babies Club

Funnily enough I bought Jesse loads of tiny baby clothes and he fitted in them for a couple of weeks, like I say he is short though lol, but in his girt 5 days when they are meant to lose weight he put on 7oz lol he's never ever lost weight always gained, though his weigh gain is definatly slowing! He is very heavy though I remember people saying he looked about 4 month old a 5 weeks x

A few people have said 'what are you feeding him' to me. He is a big eater (around 40oz of milk plus 3 small meals a day now) and he has always been a good eater. However, the number of times I've been told 'I assume you bottle feed'. Now, I do FF, but to make that assumption when I know very well that babies thrive however their fed, and Formula does not make a baby 'fat'! Grrrr gets me mad.

The other thing I find is that people sort of look at me like I'm an awful mother when they see him, comment on how big he is, usual conversation ensues, weights, measurements, natural birth questions (rude IMO!! Yes he was big, but the human body is quite capable! lol), then comes the development questions. Is he crawling? Is he sleeping through? Is he WALKING   ? My goodness people, I know some of you are lacking in experience when it comes to children, but even I, who was a complete philistine before having Earl, knew that children don't normally walk before 10 months at the very earliest!! He's only just 5 months.....please don't look at me like I'm a moron when I tell you 'No, he's not walking yet' at his age!

Sorry for that rant - as you can tell, I have a a few 'issues' there lol. :haha:

That would annoy me too....I BF for the first 7 weeks and he's been on formula for past 2 and it definately hasnt made a difference in his weight gain,he still keeps piling it on lol....As my mum says it he doesnt care how he gets it as long as he's getting it......what annoys me now is that bcos i know how much he's taking now family will say thats too much....erm,no its not if you go by his weight and its the same people who commented when i was BF that he was on me too much and obv not getting enough!! You cant win!!

Im loving this forum, all the babies are gorgeous, i love peoples reactions when i tell them of LO's latest weight gain, we should all be proud of ourselves our big babies :) xx

Hi girls, just thuoght i'd pop in. Imi is big but not as big as some of yours it seems lol. She 18lb 8oz at the min and falls just over half way between 75th and 91st %ile. Her weight gain has slowed down in the last 2 months. She was 8lb13oz at birth. She does eat ALOT - average bottle of 10oz 4 times a day, although sometimes up to 15oz aswell as 3 BLW meals!!

I also hate it when people say she eats "too much" or i overfeed her - i would never dream of telling someone who had a littley that they must underfeed them which i see as the same thing xxx

Lots of other big baby mamas here now! :happydance: I forgot to add that Emma was 8lbs 13 oz at birth. We had growth scans all throughout the pregnancy due to Emma having some prenatal health complications and they were pretty accurate so I only had one sleeper in newborn size and the rest was 0-3mths. The ironic thing about her being so huge is that when they found the pleural effusions on the 20 week scan we were told they could be due to Turner's syndrome which also results in a short statured child later in life so we were thinking we were having a baby that would grow up to be slightly taller than the typical dwarf. Emma doesn't have Turners but now looking back and knowing how tall she is already, we can laugh.

I hate the "what are you feeding her" comments too. I had a health nurse tell me that my breast milk must be whipping cream :dohh: Sadly, she's probably not too far off the mark, lol! Weaning has me a little worried though. She's taken to BLW pretty well in that she loves exploring new tastes and textures but she isn't really eating. I can just imagine the comments I'm going to get regarding her size/what she's eating when we're out.

I love the pics of your LOs! It's fun to see other big babies and be proud of their size :) Thanks for starting this thread Kte :)

wow! I was worried about my babas weight gain! She was 8lb 13oz born, and has just carried on gaining ever since, by 3 weeks she was 10lb 13oz at 4 & a half weeks 12lbs 13ozs, and so on!! Shes currently just over 6 months and is weighing in at just over 20lbs! shes very short & tubby!!! She fits into 9-12 but length wise its to long, but her lil thighs are tight!! Im BF her and she occasionaly has solids!!
Now Ive seen this I feel normal!!!!

Earl was 9lb 6 at birth and 52cm. :baby:

Weighed and measured him last night - 20lb 4 and 69cm (approx) at 5 months!!

Hello all,

Yey so many new members :hugs: :happydance:

Kaites: ~ That's good about buying separates, I didn't think about that! Its amazing how quickly they grow! Emma looks really happy in her swing :D Awh, I'm glad people like it

Welcome Jamielou  ~ . . . Lard  It's daft isn't it, if your baby is hungry you feed it, your not going to let them stay hungry! Well done for not giving in about weaning, its amazing how much pressure there is to do it before they are ready.

CatStorey ~ They never measured Chloe's length either when she was born, I had to request it once at baby clinic and then I just tried at home to get a rough estimate afterwards, it tells you in the red book where to measure from and too, just do it with someone else there as its fiddily with a wriggily baby :haha: My Chloe doesn't eat a lot either, granted she is on HB food but she has only just gone up to her age's recommended ounce / ml amount. Glad your Chloe's acid reflux is under control now, that must of been hard :hugs: :flower:

Aimee ~ Nij was going to do a comparison picture of the almost 12 month old he went to visit on Friday but he lost the camera :dohh: He said it was weird as he expected the other little girl to act like Chloe and her parents thought Chloe would do more :haha: I love adorable Earl pikkies :D Its crazy how people expect them to act a certain way becasue they are older, like they should be able to act older too . . . eh?!? Er, nope! Still a baby! Its like when the CM always says Chloe is 'unsettled' . . . she is not even 5 months yet, she is teething, of course she is going to be 'unsettled' time to time. She kind of gets branded as an unruly child even though she is just being a baby! Makes me soooo cross!

Booth ~ Must have missed that bit about overfeeding ~ I think it's pretty much impossible to overfeed a baby! You do that and it comes back up! Chloe was 6lbs 14oz at birth, for weeks after she never stayed on the same growth curve. With clothes I find that if Chloe's tops fit, her bottoms don't, then once her tops don't fit her anymore the bottoms do!

Hello Craftymum  ~ That is a fine weight to say you had hypermesis. I remember you suffering whilst we were all going through our pregnancies. I wonder if he is getting ready for another growth spurt?

Hello & welcome c1reid  ~ It's nice you get good comments. Yep 100% proud!

Hello & welcome to you too Vici  ~ Agreed about over / under feeding them. Like I said early, I think its virtually impossible to overfeed them, if there isn't enought room it would pop back up and they would refuse to take it anyway!

strawberry81 ~ Glad you feel normal now! :hugs: Your LO sounds like how my nephew was when he was a baby!

Right, best crack on with work but first here are some comparison pics of Chloe :cloud9:

Kte - Aww adorable Chloe pics! Love that one of her asleep on you....Earl slept like that for all his naps u til last week.....I now have a bad shoulder lol. Also meant to say thanks for starting the group....:hugs::kiss::flower:

Measuring...I was given a tip to get some kitchen roll, loo roll, newspaper, anything that you can lay down and baby will fit onto lengthways. Make 2 marks at the head and the heel. Remove baby, then measure....Much easier lol. It works too as while obviously without one of those Clarks Shoes-esque boards you're not going to get it 100% at least you're not there trying to pull a leg down while they play with the other end of the tape measure (mental image of me last month lol) :haha:

Thanks Aimee :flower:

That was her last night, she was being extra snuggily, must have known it was Sunday, plus after having my nephews over for the weekend she wanted me all to herself! Althought really I think it was the fact her gumms were giving her some gip and she just needed a hug. :cloud9:

Great tip! Boy did I struggle last time and then the tape mesure was just short as the only one I could find was one from a christmas cracker! I had a book balanced at one end and was trying to stop it from falling on her head! Paper and marks make much more sense! :haha:

Hello!! Can I join? Think my son more than qualifies as being a large baby! Born at 40+4 weighing 8lb 13.5 he was a pretty big boy to begin with!

At 3 months he was 58.5cm long which is the 91st percentile.

At 6 months he weighed 18.5lbs

At 9 months he was 78cm long which is the 99.6 percentile!

At 10 months he had his first pair of shoes which were size 5G and walked at 10 months 2 weeks.

At 13 months he weighs 26.1lbs an is mostly in 18-24 month old clothes, he is the height of most 2 year olds!

Now at 13 months he weighs 26.1lbs and is in 12-18 and mostly 18-24 month old clothes!

:hi: Charlotteb24

Aimee- way to grow Earl! We do the paper trick for measuring Emma too :)

Kte- Chloe is adorable! I love the pic of the two of you snuggling- so sweet!

just been reading back on some of your posts and i can relate to a lot of them!
The most recent ones ive been getting is at his toddler groups as hes taller than some of the babies who are a year older than him and as hes a very confident walker people jump to conclusions that he is WAY behind what he should be and assume he is a 2 year old who can't speak or conduct himself properly. It drives me mad! he's 13 months old! Hes young and hes still very much learning but because of his build etc people just jump to the wrong conclusion!

seems like a lot of your babies came out at 8lbs 13!

Aw, loving the pics of your Chloe!! She is so cute :) Very jealous she sleeps on you! Chloe won't sit with me for more than 5 mins before she gets pissed off and wants to move. She won't ever snuggle up for a snooze

Thanks Aimee for the measuring tip! I hadn't though of that and appart from oh pinning her down WWF stylee I wasn't really sure how we were going to do it!

Well, my sis just had a baby boy early hours of this morning weighing 8lb 8oz. A new possible member maybe!!

oooooh just got back of holiday so only just seen this- can i join???

Izzy was 8lb when born- she follows just under the 91st for her weight, 98 for her head size!!! and 91 for height! She is bursting out of her 6-9 month clothes now!!!! I really dont think clothes are realistic they say they go up to 22lb, but she is about 19lb and doesnt fit in them???? Strange!

Agreed - I gave in and have put Earl into 9-12 months which say up to 24/25lb. Hoping that should be it for a couple of months at least....and that we have a decent spring as I've got 3 pairs of shorts and 2 short rompers lol. :dohh: I really wasn't expecting him to be in them quite this soon! lol

I can so relate to the clothing size dilemma!! Has anyone tried buying a swimsuit for LO yet? Emma's wearing a toddler size 3  I'm running into the same issue with cloth diapers too- ones that were supposed to be 10-20lbs only fit 'til she was 17lbs and so on.

CatStorey- congrats on your new nephew!

Let me in lol,
just got home on Sunday with my little man he was born 10lb 12oz and 57cm long and although hes not a chunky baby hes really long so while he is filling out 0-3 clothes in lenght then hes got enough space around his middle to put another baby in there with him,
very different shape to my firstborn who was 9lb 10oz and 53cm and a chubby little boy,

my boy is nearly 4 months, fits in to 6-9 months clothes and regularly gets mistaken for a 6 month year old my chubby boy!!!!!!
