Thanks TennisGal - hes a lot better today. The cream seems to be working!

Loopy Lou - tell me to bugger off if you like, but i have had a thought about why your LO might be refusing ot feed herself anything but snacks. It seems that the majority of her meals are spoonable (pre-loaded), i know for Sophia when she was littler the effort of using pre-loaded spoons was not rewarded by the amount of food she got off the spoon. it took too much effort and time to not get a lot of food. Perhaps this is why your LO would rather you spoon feed her, more instant gratification I guess. If you were to give her meals that were mainly finger foods, or grabbable then she would get more in more quickly, and in fact you feeding her wouldn't be an option? She is obvioulsy able to feed herself as she does feed herself her snacks, so i think she might just be being a bit lazy with the spoon. Does that make sense? It's just an idea, she might be happier with more finger foods. :hugs:

Would never tell you to bugger off :)

I went a little mad when she was about 3 and a half months old and bought loads of jars of food cant afford not to use them and what we eat is not really baby friendly.

In fact i have been sitting her today thinking about this myself, i have come to the conclusion that Harriet is having a growth spurt and the reason she does not want to feed herself is its not quick enough.

Today shes eaten more then me!!

B - 6 mini weetabix, a whole pot of natural yogurt and 1/2 a pot of fruit puree. 3 oz of water and 8 oz of formula
Lunch - plum carrot and sweetcorn pot with slices of carrot plus 1/2 pot of natural yogurt and 1/4 a pot of fruit puree and another 8oz bottle of formula.
Dinner - 1/2 an adult sized bowl of Irish stew (potato, parsnip, celery, onion, carrot and meat) i made sure there was a whole potato in there, a pot of organix apple and mango rice pudding and plus 1/2 pot of natural yogurt and 1/4 a pot of fruit puree and another 8oz bottle of formula.
Snacks - 4 rice cakes, 2 biscotti and 1/2 a slice of toast!!

Honestly i could not spoon the food in quick enough!! no sooner was her mouth empty she was doing her turtle head - mouth open and head forward !

Going to have to change things once this growth spurts over and try less spoonable stuff and more things she can eat herself... I want to get her eating more of what were eating so need a major rethink!!

I definitely have probs with this too loopylou. PL spoon only works some of the time with us and most other times I do feed him myself as he will refuse to eat! Creche hasn't exactly helped matters but I'm learning to deal with it.

I do notice a difference between having spoonable food available and not giving him the choice. Tonight for example, he ate great because there was nothing there that gave the option of spoon feeding.

Things that my LO loves to feed himself are: quiche, chicken &mushroom pie (he loves the pastry), pasta, mini burgers/fishcakes, lasagne, scrambled eggs/omlette and spanish omelette (has potatoes in it). I think from now on I'm going to try to make things that don't give him the option of spoonfeeding as he does great without it!

Lizzie LOVES gnocchi - she picks them up, bites in half and chews (normally with me saying *chew carefully*, as she does tend to get very excited when they are on the menu!) I tend to do them with sauce and grated cheese...strangely, the cheese gives them a bit of texture...not so slippery to pick up!

Today, Lizzie has had:

B: pancakes with hot fruit and yoghurt
L: Avocado from my sandwich, friends pasta, mums scone - ignored her own jacket pot (except for cheese!)
S: Pear
D: Risotto with butternut squash and cheese, yoghurt with fruit, mini muffin

glad i am not alone :)

Sorry to hear the nursery is not helping.

Tried harriet on pasta (hated it), quiche (hated it), cucumber sticks (hated it), fish (hated it) i am going to be starting back on slimming world soon so i think i am going to try and cook for the 2 of us and husband can just work around us. How about from monday we list what we have eaten next to what we have feed little ones? It might give me some ideas as to what works for the 2 of us?
