I had a D&C in April. The day afterwards, my first BM, I got a long stringy mucusy bit with blood. It freaked me out a bit, but DH said it's possible because everything down there is somehow attached. It happened only that once so I didn't think much of it.
I don't know exactly when I started noticing it, but I now know there's something going on.
Every time after I have a BM, no matter how much I wipe, even with a wet one until there's nothing there, or even shower, next time I got to the bathroom, even just to pee, I've got "leftovers". Sometimes it keeps on going through out the day, and no matter how much I wipe and make sure there's nothing left, there always is.
I don't have anything left on my underwear, so it's not like I'm leaking (this is so embarrassing)
I'm pretty sure it might have something to do with the D&C, but has anyone experienced this? I told DH and he told me I need to get checked, but I don't even know where to go about this. I definitely didn't have this before. Could it have anything to do with pregnancy?

Sounds like maybe some nerve damage. I would lean more towards the dc then being pregnant unless you were further along. If your poop could be more solid adding fiber may help to firm it up and help it come out as one.

I never had D&C but imagine anything like that if done wrong could affect you. Really should bring it up as it may be something that will get worse in time if left untreated.

It sounds like an IBS symptom to me. Perhaps the stress of the MC triggered it?

Don't be embarrassed, we don't know you personally so it's "safe" to ask questions here. Mind you saying that, I've been asked and told worse from people I do know IRL :haha:

Please don't be embarrassed.

I have assisted in over 10,000 d&c procedures (and been on the operating table as well). Honestly, I have never heard of nerve damage done. The only risks I have heard/seen of are retained tissue, uterine perforation (which the doc would have know about immediately and I only saw once) etc. It's a very, very safe procedure.

It could be a reaction to a medicine. It could be IBS like someone else said. It could be a bacteria that was picked up at the hospital or elsewhere. Antibiotics - if you took them - are extremely hard on the digestive tract and can cause these symptoms for months after taking them. Typically, antibiotics are no longer given for d&c's b/c the risk of infection is so low compared to the risks with antibiotics. This could also just be due to emotional stress.

You should talk to your doctor to get this figured out. You may want to see a gastroenterologist as well.

It's important to note if you have any other bleeding. If you do, this could be a form of colitis or chrones. Colitis can be induced by antibiotics in a form called c-diff (I had this as well and it does suck). I doubt you have it, but bleeding is a sign that something more serious may be going on.

No matter what is going on, take probiotics. They will not hurt you, they can only help. It may take up to a month to see real improvement but they have saved many people with digestive issues.

(I have had digestive disorders since birth and am a wealth of knowledge. If you want more info just let me know.)

Thanks, I think I feel embarrassed because I am a really clean person and this just makes me feel... Like a child again.
I was given antibiotics after the procedure. I also had IBS a few years ago, but went to a naturopath and we worked on it.
I'll continue taking probiotics and see what happens. I feel so embarrassed going to my doctor about this, but I'm afraid it might be more serious.

I know how you feel. When I had c-diff I had to poop in a cup for a really cute doctor. It sucked but, in the end, I was able to get rid of the cells.

I followed a Ph balanced diet and read a number of books. My favorite was the Ph Miracle. It's an intense diet to follow but it worked for me. Again, I was near death with my disease but you can pull some ideas from it and incorporate it into your typical eating habit to see a change.

I think the most important products were the probiotics (you can get a high dose powder to use for a week or two then go back to pills) and apple cider vinegar - unfiltered - like Bragg's brand. This will help with your IBS as well.

If a doctor recommends the BRAT diet - banana, rice, apple sauce and toast beware. It's an old school of thinking. Many bad bacterias feed on yeast and sugar so this diet will make it worse. Instead, make soup with garlic, cilantro, onion, one carrot, one cucumber, veggie broth - organic, and greens like kale, spinach and broccoli. Just drink the broth if you don't feel well, or eat it all. It will help a ton.

this may sound weird..but get ur thyriod checked..

i had similar after my last baby and turned out my i had a thyriod problem that was making this happen...

as weird as it may sound

Thyroid actually does not sound weird as it affects metabolism. Raised metabolism can cause diarrhea etc.

I think your advice is really helpful you clearly know your stuff, you replied to my thread also and I just wanted to say that I found it really helpful and nice that you took the time to write and explain everything in such detail, thanks again.

You are very welcome. Having worked in the field helps me understand the medical end of things - even if the emotional is still hard. It takes some of the guess work out.

Unfortunately my knowledge about digestion comes from years of trouble. I had c-diff before it was a known superbug. Docs took 3+ months to diagnose me and I almost died. But, in the end, it changed my life for the better.

I am sorry for what you are going through. I can't say it gets easier, we just learn to cope and look at it differently. I am trying for my first so a successful pregnancy will probably help!

oh i KNOW its hard...after I had my son I had this same problem and i felt like i couldn't go anyplace...I was never clean and sometimes it would get worse..I did the brat diet and everything but my thyroid messed up my ibs and my whole entire insides, my hormones, my whole endocrine system...
If your probiotics do not help I would still suggest getting the thyroid checked...especially if you have been or are pregnant....it can cause this and it is very stressful to deal with..

((hugs)
