Gracie's first birthday is fast approaching and I want to get her some books. She loves books, well she loves the ones she has and gets excited when we turn the page. I want to keep her interested and we don't really buy her stuff day-to-day, her birthday is 10 weeks before Christmas so I really need to get her some for her birthday and Christmas which will do her from 1-2.

We have got black and white baby books which she is losing interest in but she loved when she was younger. We have some books with mirrors in, a pram book (out and about), some "opposites" books (they are small and paper, I feel she is a bit young just now) plus "Oh Dear" and "Dear Zoo"

I have already bought her Guess How Much I Love You for her birthday. I'm looking at Eric Carle's touch and feel playbook or something similar. Any other ideas?

These will probably be her main present so I'm looking for a few suggestions.

The Eric Carle ones are lovely including hungry caterpillar of course!
My boys liked the tiger who came to tea, we're going on a bear hunt, any of the Julia Donaldson ones, each peach pear plum, hairy mclary,

Thanks!

I didn't know if they were more for older toddlers. I find it hard to imagine her being any older than she is now!

I definitely want the touch and feel playbook. Ofdly enough I don't think I had the hungry caterpillar when I was younger!

Also thinking about Spot the Dog. That was my OHs favourite.

I had all the classics when I was younger, but I think they are out of fashion now! I loved Beatrix Potter!

I think they just like sitting with you hearing your voice. Like you say young babies can be a bit grabby with paper books but I think board books anything goes really.

She has literally almost ate one of her board books. I dread to start her on paper. She ate a full post-it yesterday (which was out of reach in the morning but she developed the ability to cruise when I was in the shower)

Just looking for suggestions because I already got her my two favourites (dear zoo and oh dear) last year. I don't remember having board books but I must have. My parents bought me a book each month from birth until I was maybe about 15. I have always been a reader so I want my daughter to read too. Looked on Waterstones and they had ridiculous stuff. There was a lift the flap book about poo. Help!

Thanks!

My son`s (16 months) favorite books are Each Peach Pear Plum, Jamberry, and The Runaway Bunny. From the start, he liked stories geared toward older toddlers, and had zero interest in the simple, baby ones. I'm so happy that he loves storytime! When I was pregnant, I joked that if my coming child didn't love to read, then it would mean that the stork had messed up.

As for classics being out of fashion...pff. I wouldn't care if they were. ;)

Isla loves Giraffe's Can't Dance, The Runaway Bunny, and Goodnight Moon.

DS (16 months) got lots of the 'that's not my...' Books for his birthday and he loves them, he also loves the peppa pig board books which I got from the £1 shop

Oh gosh the that's not my ... Ones crack me up. They are so full of innuendo haha!

We have one called "Peekaboo Jungle" it then states "with big flaps and a mirror" haha.

Alices favourites are the Julia Donaldson books, they may be aimed at the slightly older toddler but she's loved them from being tiny.
Her favourites are The Gruffalo, Gruffalos Child and a Squash and a Squeeze x

Lots of good suggestions here. Waterstones website is useless!

Julia Donaldson has also done some boardbooks, we have hide and seek hen which is my son's favourite book right now. He loves lifting the flap. We also enjoy we're going on a bear hunt, mr magnolia, the miffy books and the very hungry catapiller

Omg can't believe she ate a board book! Impressive!

 at Gracie eating a board book, what is she like!

We've got guess how much I love you and guess how much I love you seasons, the tiger who came for tea, the very hungry caterpillar, elmer, the princess and the pea, the little girl who lost her name (personalised so it spells out Willow throughout the book), the tale of Peter Rabbit, the wind in the Willow's, dogger, goodnight moon, Winnie the Pooh collection, peekaboo I love you/rainbow (those are board books), we're going on a bear hunt, love you forever, a big day for a little princess (book I bought for gender reveal) and the magic faraway tree. xxx
