Anyone bf and hve a section ?
Did u pump before hand to encourage milk ?
Was it much harder to bf with the scar?
Thanks xxx

I found breastfeeding very hard with the incision and abdominal pain :(

Thanks.
Hope things got better for u xxx

I've had two sections and no more issues breast feeding than the next lady (just cracked nipples). I had gestational diabetes with my second and milk came in by day 2.

Thanks minties x
Good to hear.
Def be trying to bf anyway
Will see how we go :)

I wanted to BF after my Csection with my first but my milk didn't come in at all. I got nothing. Literally! Plus she wouldn't latch even with the midwifes help. So after fighting all day to get her latch I have in and the midwife gave me a bottle. :(

I had no problems, milk came in about 2.5 days after c section. Didn't find it hard with the incision despite it getting infected!

The removal of the placenta is what triggers the initial production of milk, so in theory a c-section shouldn't make a difference :)

Thanks ladies xx
Seems to be divided
Just like bf with vag birth.
I'll def try my best anyway.
Didn't work with ds cos he had a stroke
But he fed for few days and I pumped for 2 months
Only gave up cos health nurse told me I was making his reflux worse with combi
Shouldn't hve listened cos that was rubbish
I'll know better this time.
Its if I can manage it with ds too might be problem this time.
But Oh be home for few weeks.
So he will just hve to do everything with ds for a bit
Sorry I'm rambling now :)
Thanks a mil ladies xxx
Great to hear both sides xxx

I am now on my third pregnancy and will be a c-section again (all 3 c-sections). My first pregnancy, I had an abundance of milk and it came in during my third trimester, around 8mths. My second pregnancy, my breast milk didn't come until nearly a week after the c-section and was also given Domperidone to assist with the milk production. I am hoping with this third and final pregnancy, that I am able to produce milk unassisted. I did not find the incision made it difficult.

I had my first via section, my milk came in on day 3 and I had no trouble breastfeeding at all. I didnt find it even slightly painful on my scar and I didn't need to pump before hand. He never needed a top up and I fed him for 19 months.

I had my second baby naturally and I didn't have any milk or even colostrum until day 6. I had feeding specialists and a hospital grade pump and there was just nothing there at all and she had to have formula - she's 8 weeks old now and exclusively bf so not the end of the world but it was a very stressful start.

I find that a breast feeding pillow (I use a Boppy) helps make it not as painful.

Thanks ladies xxx
Great to hear success stories x

I didn't have any issues breastfeeding after my section. My LO was 9 weeks prem so didn't get to feed him myself for the first 2 weeks but managed to get a really good supply with just pumping and didn't need to supplement at all. X

I struggled to begin with after my section due to my sons latch not the wound. I exclusively pumped for 4 weeks and then he managed to latch. He's 10 months now and still breast fed at night but gets expressed milk in a cup during the day. I would recommend looking for a good feeding pillow. Mine Really helped to lift my son up for feeding and getting him off my wound. xx

My milk didn't come in till day 5! So it took a little longer. I'm having a c section again so hoping it will be a little quicker this time. No problems with wound or anything like that, I did have a great recovery though. You may get cramping which is unrelated to your C-section, it's your uterus contracting back to it's original size (it's stimulated by feeding) doesn't hurt though.

Thanks ladies xxx

I had induced vag birth last time.
My milk didn't start until late day 4.
Prob because he was in neo and not feeding
Plus I had infection and was wrecked.
Hoping it comes in quicker this time.
When I drink at the mo.
I can sometimes feel it going to my boobs
Like it did when I had magic boobs :)
So hopefully my boobs be ready this time :)
Thanks for all replies xxx

I had c-s with both babies. First was Emc and it took a lot longer for my milk to come in and my little man lost 14% of his bodyweight (I ended up expressing and cup feeding after a bf) for a while.

With DS2 it was planned (had wanted vbac but it wasn't going to happen) and things went a lot more smoothly from the beginning. Milk was in definately earlier.

I think the stress of the emc can have a big impact, I remember reading lots at the time (mainly anecedotal I suppose) of that playing a big part with bf.
