Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

I feel so bad girls. James woke up at 5.30am screaming for what I thought was food and I gave him his dummy to settle him for a bit cos he had not long fed and taken almost 4oz. Then after about 5 minutes I gave in and picked him up and he was soaking! His nappy had leaked and he was wet right through and even his sheet was wet. I felt absolutely awful and almost cried. Got him changed and gave him a bottle and he took another 3oz little piglet.

Was supposed to be going to postnatal group today but I have had the most horrid sore throat since yesterday. Was hoping it would get better but nope its gotten worse if anything so I dont want to give it to anyone else. So going to stay at home and do my housework as my parents and 2 grandmothers are coming up from Bristol tomorrow to see us.

LittleKitten ~ Aww bless ya... Just think, you tried to guess what was wrong... There'll be times I'm sure when James won't stir or wake to let you know he's soaked! CC has been soaked through a few times, more so with mothercare smart nappies. I've stopped using them. They cause so much more washing! Hope you start feeling better soon; sod the housework though... Don't do too much or your sore throat may linger longer or you may run yourself down... You still need to take things easy, you're still recoping for your pregnancy, delivery etc and the lack of sleep...

I'm off to make a brew... CC's zzzing away, laundry all done; ironing to do later... Apart from that I've only tea to concentrate on sorting out about 2 ish as I've got braising steak out the freezer.. Gonna do a slow stew... yumm...

CC slept from 11ish until 5/6ish this morning. Had a feed and went back to sleep... We've made so much progress!?!?

I think it sounds like the honeymoon is over for a lot of us....Earl is starting to show signs of colic so hubby has gone to the chemist to get him some infacol as the HV thought this may help.

I've just managed to get Earl off to sleep for the first time since 7.30 this morning.....shattered now. I think he's growing as he just wants to eat little and often.....just spent ages making up a 4oz feed and he's fallen asleep after 1.5oz. I am however not going to argue! lol

His arm seems to be improving...he's holding it by his side a lot of the time now and will take it away from you if you stretch it out to the side. He's got til the 17th to make his improvements as that's his review with the Dr. We also got his referral through for his clicky hips...7th Dec. It makes him sound like he's falling apart. Poor little mite!

Anyhoo, looks like hubby is back. We're supposed to be going to MIL's today (4hour drive each way. Waiting for the MW to come (she was supposed to come at 9.30.....yet again we're waiting!! :dohh:) Have a good day girls xx

Well I have so far cleaned my ensuite and tidied, hoovered, polished the bedroom and changed the bed. Still have to clean the bathroom, hoover the hall, put away DSS's readybed, hoover the boys room, tidy the living room, hoover the living room, do the washing up, sweep and mop the kitchen floor, put away the clean washing and do another load of washing. As well as sterilising bottles and making up feeds. Yikes sounds like lots when I list it lol. Ah well. Has to be done. Can't have my nans coming up tomorrow to a hell hole lol. At least I've got all day cos OH is not coming home on his break so I've not got to cook a meal for 4pm like I normally have to. Luckily James is quite happy to sleep through the hoover even when his moses basket is on the bed and I'm hoovering around the bed!!

MW has just been - Earl now weighs 9lb 9.5oz (2 whole oz since Monday!!) - chunky monkey. The infacol may well be a good investment - he's just had a dose then polished off 2.5oz in one go then let out the biggest belch to come out of a 11 day old little boy! Hopefully it will be ok to continue him on it. He's dozing in his basket now while hubby and I have to get the packing done to go to MIL's. Wont be on over the weekend so will probably be back on Sunday/Monday.

Have a good weekend girls xx

Argh I give up! Even with the Gaviscon James is still throwing up. He had a big vomit last night and then wouldn't settle for ages afterwards. And now hes just had another big vomit! Don't know what to do with him. He had already burped so he didn't have wind.

did he get all his wind up? we were having this problem with sam, it wasnt little sick like you always get after they eat too much but full on projectile sick, turns out he wasnt bringing all his wind up just a little bit, even though it sounded alot, i dont know how you can tell as with sam he just went sleep after a bottle then was sick half hour later. luckily he seems to be better now but i do sit for at least an hour to make sure its all up - hard work at 5am!!!

Yeah James is projectile puking too. It hit the bloody sofa and the remote controls and nearly the laptop! Perhaps he isnt getting all his wind up then. He was sat up when he was sick cos I was still burping him. Hes perfectly happy now though lol.

:hugs: I really feel for all of you with colicy (sp?) babies right now. My sister assures me they do get better, lol! Harry has been so much better since I switched off the Infacol & started using Gripe Water (they have to be 4 weeks before you can use it tho). He brings up his wind so quickly now, and is poo-ing much more regularly & seems just way more content these days & settles quickly back to sleep after his feeds at night time. And he is 1 month old today :)

We had the 2nd viewing of the house yesterday. Spent nearly an hour there, lol writing down everything it would need doing to it (mainly cosmetic like replastering walls, chagning internal doors, new skirting boards etc) and discussing it at length, lol. Harry slept through the whole lot, which was handy too! After much talk, we made an offer on it thismorning- pretty sure they're gonna turn it down as it's quite a bit below their asking price, but you never know. We can afford the whole asking price tbh, but if we can get it cheaper, then great, iykwim? It's all very exciting. i keep picturing what colours we'd paint the rooms & where the furniture would go, which my dad says is always a good sign when finding a house. Finger's crossed!

Anyway, better go. I have a feeling harrybo will wake up any minute now & I am literally dying for a cuppa, hehe!

Have a brilliant, settled weekend everyone

Hi all,

We're trying a winding product that my hv recommended called Windy Pops. So far, so good... she's had about 3 doses so far, and seems to be settling much quicker / easier after a feed. Still takes a bit of a time to wind, but not as long as when she was on Infacol. Hopefully the Windy Pops will carry on working, fingers well and truly crossed!

We've had my OH's parents up this week, they left yestserday morning. It was an interesting experience... at least they're in Lincolnshire, it means that I only see them occasionally, which I think suits all of us well!

Romilly's oral thrush seems to be clearing at last... at least, I hope it is. It looks better. The daktarin is a pain to give her, as we have to try and rub it on the back of her tongue, but worth it if it's actually helping. Fingers crossed she won't be on it much longer.

DH is back to work on Monday, oh boy! Hoping that the weather will clear up over the weekend so we can get out properly (not just to shops etc).

Have a good weekend everyone :)

flora how do you give harry gripe water? in his bottle or directly? i gave some to sam the other night with a syringe and not long after he was sick, but not the same as when he's sick with wind. he did pull some funny faces trying to get him to take it lol

mw said to make sure we tried winding every oz or so just to make sure we werent trapping the wind under the milk, he didnt bring it up after each oz but it seemed to help. it scares the shit out of me when he's sick like that, he did it in his sleep last week too

Hope everyone is having a good day :) Emma and I have survived the first month! :happydance:

Emma's been having lots of problems with trapped gas too- glad to see it's pretty common! Yesterday I thought that she had got all the wind up, put her in our Moby wrap for the afternoon so she'd be upright and 2 hours later she gave off a huge burp in her sleep- that was when I decided to get some gripe water. I was a little surprised that I had a choice between alcohol-free and the traditional stuff. I thought for sure the stuff with alcohol would be banned here! Anyway, I bought the alcohol-free but if it stops working, I'm switching to the other stuff (maybe she'll get buzzed off it and mellow out). Someone posted an article about colic in one of the other forums and it mentioned your latch can cause problems if BFing- she's always latched on just fine but all day I've been the latch police, making sure it's perfect since I've probably got a bit lazy with checking lately. Hopefully that'll make a difference too.

Geesh, who knew I'd be so concerned about burping habits when becoming a mum?!

Happy 1 month Kaites & Emma :) I had to LOL at the 'latch police' comment- I'm like that too, so I'm glad it's not just me, hehe :dohh: The things us mum's do, hey?! EDIT: Kaites, I just saw the pics of Emma in the diaper you made her That is so cool!!!!! My OH is a scuba diver, so when we've got our own house, we've planned an underwater themed bedroom, so I love what you sewed on it, and she looks very comfy too :)

Harry has been super-clingy this afternoon; he actually looked depressed. How weird is that? I swear to God, the look on his little face- h just looked so sad & helpless- totally broke my heart. Have fed him soooo much today to try & keep him happy, and what do you know, as soon as daddy gets home, he's a little angel, sat in his chair, cooing away, staring at his toys & playing with his hands all content & happy. Typical!!!! lol.

James has been really unsettled this evening. Had to snuggle him right in to get him to stop crying. He's just taken a 4oz feed and is now in his moses basket staring at the ceiling lol. I have left him to it and put on some dinner as all I have eaten today is a chicken burger and a few potato wedges. Also have been utterly rubbish with drinking. Have had 1 cup of coffee, 1 glass of squash and 1 milkshake oopsie. And now he is crying again :(

Hey all,

Just a quick post really, lost my internet connection and on at my Gran's lol!
Congrats to all & hope you & babies are good!

Just to say that our little man Oscar was born on 31st October at 11:52pm weighing 9lb 2oz! Had a pretty traumatic labour, had to be cut and had a fair few stitches, still very sore down there...not the birth I planned for at all  .

However little man is doing fine, breastfeeding is going well, and hes putting on weight brilliantly! :cloud9:

Hopefully my internet will be up and running again soon, missed coming on here!!

Awh a birthday buddy for my Chloe :)

I ended up being cut too :hugs: Still very sore but a nice bath eased it off yesterday, hope you feel better soon. Glad to hear things are going well now though.

Congrats on making it to one month too :) The diaper is made from leftover fabric from making her a quilt. My OH is really into aquariums so he's grooming her to be a daddy's girl with an underwater themed nursery. I like it too though- not a girly room. Poor kid is always dressed in pink anyway :)

Emma had a clingy day too- I think she gets a little bored with me though! Managed to get out for a little walk and she was totally fine on the walk but back to her clingy self when we got home.

littlekitten- hope James settles for you and lets you get a decent night sleep

Congrats MeggieMoo- just squeaked in as an October baby! :) can't wait to see pics!

So heres my (not so) little pumpkin! :cloud9:
