Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Morning ladies!

Well I managed the challenge yesterday! DS to school on time, me and CC dressed washed and there! The Headmaster and teachers were fantastic with DS as he took CC in the pram to show them; they all made a fantastic big fuss of him! Really was lovely to see, funny too; as he pushed the pram over he was strutting!?!? LOL Talk about being a proud be brother... Lovely really...

MW was here yesterday; yep she was late again. She arranged to be here about 2 ish; LOL turned up at 4pm and left just after 5pm... Very pleased with CC and how well she looks and is doing... Glad she's doing so well; we're all starting to look like panda's! Excellent dark rings around our eyes... Only 3oz to go and she's back to birth weight!

Sleep, CC is sleeping so well from silly o'clock in the morning LOL. Starts musical boobs as we get to bed from about 10 ish until last night was 2am, night before it was 4am... OH is absolutely shattered, grumpy and generally sounding so fed up (he's just so tired! Poor bloke... He's working so hard, long hours and very little sleep... I'm not sure how to make things better for him...) So last night CC settled about 2am and OH was up at 4am, hence why he's so tired... CC had a feed about 6.45ish and is zzzing away still...

She's a pleasure the rest of the time, just night time? Any ideas?

I've a feeling it's just the way things are gonna be for a short while until CC's times change slightly... She's sleeping when I'd have been getting up for work and whilst I'd have been at work. Waking when I'd have finished work and when I was going to bed... Hehehe OH use to complain about her kicking him to bits during the night LOL guess she's got it in for him!! Wonder if I could get the sleep deprevation thing to work for me too; wonder if I'd be able to wrap OH round my finger too?? LOL

Awww she's beautiful! It'll all be worth it in the end... Early days! :-D Hope everyone else is coping and managing well! They're priceless aren't they?

Morning girls and bumpkins. Well James had a good night last night. Took a while to settle him at the beginning of the night and we managed to settle him to bed at 11pm. Then he slept until 4.30am! Daddy did his feed so mummy managed to chill (cant sleep when he is awake no matter how tired I am lol). Then he slept til 8.30am. Feel great after that much sleep! He is being an absolute little hog pig though. Yesterday he took 3.5oz at 12.30, 3.5oz at 4pm, 3oz at 6pm, 3.5oz at 9pm. Then he guzzled 4oz straight down at 4.30am and has just taken another 4oz at 8.30am. Think I might make up his bottles today as 5oz cos he seems to be getting hungrier again.

Maffie I hope the results are all ok , hope everyone is all doing well, just a quick note, the infacol, seems to be working with George, we dont give it to him on every feed, but it seems to be doing the job, another question for all Mummys, how much do you give you babies, before you wind them, 1oz or 2oz???

Sam76: I dunno about ounces, but i gove Harry one boob, then wind & change him, then offer him the other boob (sometimes he takes it, sometimes he doesn't) & then he usually is really sleepy, so I swaddle him & put him down & he's usually alseep within minutes; if not I put his gobstopper (dummy, lol) in & that does the trick. I haven't given Harrybo any Infacol for 2 days now & he seems fine without it. I'm gonna buy some Gripe Water now he's 4 weeks old & start him on that as it has less artificial stuff in it & less ingredients. (I think Chaos said the same thing too).

Kaites: Emma is gorgeous! Is it me, or does she have really long legs? (lucky girl)

So... Harrybo Pumpkin Head (as my nephew calls him) is 4 weeks old today! Tis crazy how fast this is all going. And 4 weeks of breastfeeding too. I'm amazed, considering I was gonna FF at first, lol! He's still got his cough & a notty nose, which is kinda gross, lol. Got HV clinic tomorrow, & I'm having the flu jabs done at lunch time too, then going to a BFing group in afternoon. I really hope he's put on lots of weight! I've noticed his face is starting to fill out & his toes are getting fatter, but not much else yet. I want a fat baby!!!! hehe.

How's everyone's day going so far? I just had a guy round to fix my oven (it wasn't heating up, turns out the element had blown) so now it's a bit of housework, then a walk into town to buy some birthday cards for my stepmum, then if the weather is still nice & Harry is still happy, we'll wander around the harbour for a while & wath the ferries go in & out. (I find that quite peaceful & relaxing for some reason... good old Navy ships & Brittany Ferries & the WightLink, lol)

Q: does anyone else's LOs have spots on their faces? Harry's come up in little spots round his cheeks (near his eyes & ears) & on his chin. They look kinda sore. Is it safe to put Savlon or something of the like on them, or should I just leave them alone? I'm sooooo tempted to pick at them, but resisting so far, hehe... I'm such a 'picker' lol! (child abuse here I come?!)

Flora STEP AWAY FROM THE SPOTS! They are natural hun they are milk spots, Sienna has a big one under her eye at the moment... x

Dont touch them coz they cld end up scarring, apparently its just coz their skins rlly sensitve to bacteria so they break out. They dnt hurt them, just try n keep his skin nice n clean to minimise but theres nothin els u can rlly do.
Im sure tommys set for a growth spurt, iv fed him 6 times so far today - only bin up since 11 and the feeds r lasting about half hour/45 mins??
Hes done nothin but eat!
O-oh, im being called again - dinnerlady to the rescue! xx

Lol, I think I must've been some kinda sado-masochist in a past life, lol. I put a tiny bit of sudocreme on them at lunch time & they already look a bit better. Thinking maybe I should start bathing him more than twice a week, lol, coz now I'm panicing incase he's an unclean baby, lol.
I am such a twatty first time mum, lol. Literally everything is a cause for concern for me with regards to Harry at the moment. I must be driving my Oh insane.
I promise I wont pick his spots though... He is finally asleep right now, having been awake all day. WE went for a walk round town & round the harbour and on the way back, got bloody drenched in the rain & I;d forgotten to bring the rain cover, so we both had to have a change of clothes since! He's fed like all morning & 3 times already this afternoon & my nipple had cracked, so I'm miffed now coz it hurts. Lansinoh cream, here I come! Think Harry must be having a growth spurt at last! woo-hoo!

Hello all, just a quick drop by for now but I hope to be home real real soon as OH dad came home today!!!! They went to visit as per and they decided to discharge him there and then!!

Chloe has finally started to settle in her Moses basket today, as soon as you put her down before she wake right up but now she quite happy :happydance:

I messed up on boobie feeding her, I got the first day in but she made me sore, my mum got me some cream but for some reason I stuck to my top and it ripped the sores and I got scabs OUCH! Now I struggle and she wasn't getting enough so I have her on bottles. I was a bit upset yesterday about it all but I don't want her to go hungry and the bottles have fit well with the current chaotic lifestyle we have. I was half thinking of expressing but as sad as it sounds i struggle to find time plus I couldn't until I had healed.

Dog I just spilt my cuppa, catch you all soon and then I can upload a pic fit you all x x

I'm missing you ladies!!

Hi All

I've only just found this thread! Congrats to all Bumpkin Mummies!

We went to the HV clinic today and Luca is now 8lb11oz (he was 7lb14oz last Mon) so he's doing well. I was told to make sure i eat lots of chocolate and flapjacks!!!! I don'y need telling twice! Luca has been v grizzley this afternoon and hasn't wanted to be put down at all - do others have this? He eventually fell asleep on my lap about an hour ago so ihaven't dared move since then!! Ijust cant wait for DH to get home so i can hand him over! Lol!

Anyway hope you're all doing well!

Hey craftymum :) Meant to ask you on facebook, but forgot, has your hyperemesis completely gone now? Hope you're feeling tons better. Sounds like Jacob's doing really well :)
yes Fleur it's completely gone :happydance: I went to pizza hut last weekend and really enjoyed myself - only problem is after 8 months of starving and being so sick my digestive system is kind of messed up now I'm eating again and my IBs which hasn't bothered me for years is giving me gip now but hopefully that'll sort itself out once my body gets used to having food in it again!

Flora its natural to worry hun.... shows you are a good mummy x I only bath Si 2-3 times a week otherwise her skin will get dried out .. I top & tail her the rest of the time. Also yes more than likely a growth spurt.. Si is showing signs of having hers and she is only a few days behind Harry in age x They dont last long but are tiring so rest when you can and with you BF'ing eat and drink plenty as your milk may increase supply x

Kte: We miss you too chick x

All ok here other than Si being mega clingy all day.. I havent had any peace unless holding her.. Plus she is draining her bottles really well.

Gotta dash as she is screaming AGAIN x

Kte ~ I'm sorry to hear that the breast feeding went rather wrong, I had to keep reminding myself that it's breast feeding not nipple feeding! DD has a habit of clamping down right on the end of my nipple, Boy does it hurt. So far touch wood no problems... Hope your nipples soon heal!

Florabean ~ Sounds like your DS is doing well, hope the breast feeding session goes well... I've a feeling that I'll see the HV in another 3 weeks from what the MW was saying yesterday. I'm not feeling too fazed by it at the moment, maybe a little out of place but it's been years since I've done babies...

LittleKitten ~ Sounds like your OH is being a jem! Feeding DS durinng the night so you can chill, I know the feeling that you can't sleep when LO awake but just to lie there and watch sounds almost too good to be true...

Evening all....

Had a indoor day today, the weather here this morning was awful! Rain, Rain and More Rain... Was lovely this afternoon, so fed and changed CC; walked upto school to collect DS...

Ended up surrounded by secondary school kids wanting to hold and push CC... Was rather strange... She'd started crying as she was wanting another (yep another) feed... They waited for DS to come out of school and one pushed the pram as I carried CC as she was throwing a wobbler (she went back to sleep a 3rd of the way home) They teenagers were so polite and helpful too... It was a real pleasure to walk home from school with them. Started off with 3 or them and ended up with about 7... Bit of a shocker really...

I've managed to get a 4oz bottle of breast milk saved up today, so I'm gonna try tonight to see if I can breast feed CC and top her up with the milk in the bottle to see if that helps settle her on a night. I'm not sure if she's hungry, or just wanting the comfort. She settles so well during the day? So maybe just maybe I'm not quite producing enough good quality milk come the evening or she's fighting goingg to sleep by cutting the feed short... Oh I don't know!?

If OH wasn't starting so early and finishing so late, I don't think we'd have much problem. As all in all she is having a decent sleep from 2/4am or even 6am ish, just OH's day starts so bloody early! He's beginning to feel a little pushed out at the moment, as he's not really seeing any of us, and I know for a fact he feel's as though he's missing out on us all... You know when you don't know what to say to make someone feel better about things... Rock and a hard place. New job, new daughter, new rountine and no time to get use to one part of the change. It's all happened at once...

I've suggested that he talks to one of the bosses about maybe taking a long weekend unpaid or something if he's feeling so down about things, we can afford for him to have a couple of days unpaid; not sure how work would go for it. Or even if OH would ask... He's tried to book some time off in about 3 weeks as I'm back at the eye clinic, they couldn't give him a yes or no about taking the day as leave (he'll have earnt some by then) and they've had plenty of notice... I'm hoping it's just the lack of sleep that's taking it toll on OH at the moment... I just want him to have some decent sleep and be back to his normal self very soon, he's not normally so down on the world and I'm not too sure how to deal with it...

Anyway, best go sort out my nappy wash... (It's working really well using the reusables, wouldn't buy any more of mothercare smart nappies though. They wick something terrible! Managed 1/2 hours in one and CC has been absolutely wet through everytime she's worn one!) The Tommee Tippee Cotton Bottoms are fantastic! I'm really impressed with the reuasable wipes too, they smell wonderful, wipe well, wash well and don't need as many as you do disposables...

Catch you all tomorrow!

Eswift: I always wondered about the re-usuable wipes. Which brand do you use? Are they expensive? I've been thinking of getting some, as Harry seems to have very sensative skin & thought they might be better for him.

Well Noah keeps screaming he's fed winded and changed, I think he's trying to go toilet again. He's been a feeding monster today my poor boobs noticed it alot!

He settled earlier but now he's so grizzly. Trying to leave him in the moses basket to settle himself, just dont want to wake everyone up!

Hey ladies!

Hope everyone had a good day! Emma was pretty chilled out today and allowed me a productive day- got the cloth diapers washed, the 2 bathrooms and kitchen cleaned :) Pretty sad that getting cleaning done makes me so happy, lol :) We've been battling a bit of diaper rash for the past week and a half and we discovered that the cause is that Emma seems to be sensitive to both disposable wipes and diapers so she is forcing us to go green. I always planned on doing some cloth but now I actually have to stay on top of the diaper laundry pile so that we aren't caught without any clean diapers and I'm a little organizationally challenged these days!

Flora- Emma does have long legs- last week she measured 23" long and it is mostly leg. Hope Harry feels better soon!

Maffie- hope Noah is feeling better- you must be happy to have him home now (even if he being a boobie monster!)

Well, it's late and I better get some sleep before the princess awakes again... Hope everyone has a good night!

Morning girls. I am so tired this morning. Didn't manage to settle James until 1am. He then slept til 6am but took nearly an hour to take his feed and then OH had to get up for work so I was awake. He is being so lazy with most of his feeds right now. Took his 6am feed like a dream but his 9.30am feed hes taken 2oz in like 30 mins! He is wide awake and just staring at me with the bottle in his mouth but I have to keep reminding him its there lol.

I'm waiting on tenterhooks this morning....bought a brand new car yesterday and waiting for the guy to phone me to say the finance has been approved. God I hope it has. Our car is too small for DSS and James and all their stuff. I will be gutted if he says no. So fingers crossed ladies.

Have any of you ladies tried Aptamil comfort, previously called easy digest? We are still having terrible trouble with LO from around ten pm to 3/4am. She has been on infacol for ages now. Also tried gripe water and cooled boiled water but this seems to make her worse. She is clearly distressed with the wind.

No I havnt sorry hun. I've heard its good though. Was thinking about trying it with James as he has reflux and has been having Gaviscon for over a week now as well as Infacol.

Eeeuuurgghhhhh! God I feel like death warmed up!

I wasn't on yesterday as things just went completely manic and I'm still paying the price now! Feel like I could sleep for a week!

I called the GP to make an appointment for Earl about his arm. They had nothing until next Wednesday so I asked for him to see the on-call GP (which just happened to be my GP). We went down at about 11.30 and saw him and he referred us straight up to the hospital to get him checked out.

We got to the hospital and Earl had tests, x-rays, orthopeadic consultations, the works, and in the end we were there for nearly 6 hours. Turns out he has a condition called Erb's Palsy which means that the nerves in his shoulder were stretched while in the birth canal and they need to release themselves and contract back. It means that he's reluctant to move his arm but it should be back to normal within a month or so. He started to use his arm more and more yesterday and already today we've had it up level with our shoulder. We have to keep his arm moving so his muscles don't lose their strength but all in all it's pretty rare but harmless enough. We have to go back to the hospital in 2 weeks to see the same Dr as he wants to check his progress and use him as a teaching case - Earl had 3 rather pretty young female junior Dr's coo-ing over him as he taught them all about it.......proper little performer as right then and there he lifted his arm up and stuck a finger up at them! :dohh:

Anyway, we finally got him home at about 6.30, I then had to go out and get us some tea (drove for the first time in nearly 3 months lol) and nip to the shops. By the time I'd got back, we'd eaten and I'd called my Mum to tell her why I had had to ask her not to come over today, it was 9pm and I suddenly realised I was feeling like crap! (Sorry for the bad language) - We went to bed, took 2 3oz feeds up with us so we could stay in the bedroom and Earl decided it was time for a growth spurt and swallowed 5oz of food, meaning I had to go and make up 2 more feeds lol - made 4oz this time lol. He's since finished off 2 4oz feeds and is now happily sleeping in his basket after all that excitement yesterday.

He's also officially in 0-3 month clothes as his newborn vests have had to be retired as they were hurting his shoulder too much when we put them on him. Put a 0-3 month on him this morning and while it swamped him, he seemed a lot more comfortable and lifted his arm a couple of times.

Anyhoo, I'm off to try to catch a few more winks of sleep while he's asleep as I'm still feeling really weak. I had to do all the night feeds as hubby had a migraine after yesterday (we had nothing to eat all day) so I am really tired now! Still, apparently I had a little flip out as I was working on auto-pilot, fed Earl, put him down to sleep, then got back in bed. About 2 seconds later I sat bolt upright saying 'where's the baby, he was right here!' and patting the bed all over like I'd lost him. Hubby had to get out of bed and check he was there as I was convinced I'd lost him! :dohh::haha: Me-thinks more sleep be needed! lol

Have a good day ladies! :hugs:

god why dont i come on this thread more =[ i miss you all lol.

Dexter is 5 weeks old tomorrow! gone too quick =[. Hes been weighed today and is a whooping 11lb7oz! Fatty!..

Hes moved into his "big boys bed" now lol as he doesnt fit in his moses basket lol. Were trying to sort his feeds out as hes all over the place.
