Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Just a little Thanks Giving joke I came across on another board. It made me "lol" ;)

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.

Every word out of the bird's' mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.

Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard
for over a minute.

Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.

As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very softly,
"May I ask what the turkey did?"

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

:haha:

Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving Chaos and that travel etc doesn't upset Autums routine too much. Enjoy! :flower:

Have a good thanks giving and hope you have a safe and smooth journey Chaos

Have a lovely thanksgiving Chaos....must be nice to have another day in the year to eat far too much! We only really have christmas lol.

Thanks for all the teething advice ladies. If he is teething then that's fine...I'd rather get it all done with anyway lol. He has been sucking on his hands a lot too which I know means he's hungry but literally from 30 minutes after his feed so I just give him his dummy and he mouthes at it like crazy.

We're off to weigh Earl again in a bit - I'm interested to see just how big he's gotten!!

Hope we're all ok...just a quickie visit for me as I have my brunch being cooked...full english! Yummers! xxx

Be on later to let you know the damage!!

Chaos that joke made me laugh so hard I nearly pee'd lol.

Well I gave up in the end and just put James back in his moses basket cos he was trying to eat, then getting frustrated with it. So I put him in his basket, swaddled him and put his dummy and he was out like a light. That was at about 10.45am and I woke up at 1.15pm lol. And the best thing is he is still asleep so I managed to get some 'breakfast' lol. Feel much better now. I'm trying to reread New Moon so that its fresh in my mind when we finally actually get to the cinema but its taking forever due to lots of distractions hehe.

Afternoon ladies,

Well Earl now weight 11lb 7oz. He made a complete spectacle of himself at clinic though by weeing all over me, himself and the scales when there were 4 other mums waiting to use them! He is doing well though and the HV that was there was really happy with his weight gain. She said to expect a big jump next week as apparently he's due a growth spurt (He had loads of creases in his legs and arms so apparently that's a sign to watch out for.)

Earl is knackered but just wont nap......funny in a way as you know it's because he's missing out on things (or so he thinks lol).

Right, I'm off for a cuppa.
:coffee:

So, during the day, how long do you all let your babies cry for before going to the crib/cot/basket/chair/whatever? And when you go to them, do you pick them up straight away or just let them grizzle a bit while you sit and chat to them and hold their hand?

And what about at night?

BTW, does anybody else have a baby who is hungry the MINUTE he wakes up? Like IMMEDIATELY? Makes me feel a bit like he's interested only in my milk, not in me

Has anybody started a proper bedtime routine yet, such that they actually put baby to bed upstairs in the cot while mummy and daddy stay downstairs? At the moment I can't imagine ever doing this - Monty simply snuggles asleep on one of our laps downstairs, and then some time between about 9 and 11 he wakes up (or we wake him up), I feed him, OH changes him and then we put him to bed - praying each and every time that he doesn't wake immediately.

Oh, final question - any of you ever manage to eat a meal at the table with your OH without baby being on a boob or lap?

That's my lot for now, LOL

If she is just protesting and not actually crying, I'll go up to her and sooth her, give her her dummy and turn on the crib mobile. If she wakes up screaming that pretty much means she think I haven't fed her in 6 weeks and she needs to eat so I'll just leave her there whilst I get the bottle ready and then pick her up.

And what about at night?

At night I'll get her as soon as I hear her waking up/stirring and feed her right away so she's still dozy when she eats and drops right back off after the bottle. If I leave her to wake up properly and start crying, its a lot harder to get her to go back to sleep.

Yup, basically when she wakes up from a nap she's hungry lol. Then she likes to have awake time after the feed.

Yes! I started this at about 2 or 3 weeks. It makes for to be A LOT happier in the day. If I miss her routine at night, shes a total horror the next day.
She generally eats between 8 and 10 at night. She'll have her bottle, then have some awake time with Daddy as he's been at work all day. I'll then take her up stairs, put the bed room lights on low, switch the radio on low. Run her a bath. Let her splash around in there for about 10 or 15 minutes. She REALLY loves this, I think it relaxed her. I'll then take her out put her on the bed and rub that Johnsons night time lotion on her skin. She really loves this also. Nappy and sleep suit on. I think she's learned this means bed because she's passed out before I finish swaddling her lol. I lay her right down, I don't even have to rock her for a few minutes anymore. I leave the radio on for a bit of white noise, but turn out the lights and shut the door and go down stairs. She generally sleeps (when not on a growth spurt) until about 2am or 4am, will eat and drop right back off. Once dawn breaks tho she wants to be up and at'em lol.

Oh, final question - any of you ever manage to eat a meal at the table with your OH without baby being on a boob or lap?

HAAAAA HAHAHA HO HE HA. HA. HA. HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHA HE. HO. HAH.

This child has psychic abilities and wakes up the moment I put a fork to my mouth!

We do the proper bedtime routine....last night we put him up at 9pm, did the washing up then sat and watched a film on the sofa. It was actually really nice to have the time to ourselves and we will be moving his bedtime in a few weeks to be a bit earlier so we can do this more often.

As for him being put down, I'm really naff at putting him down to sleep as if he's even slightly awake he will just wake straight back up again. :dohh: Hubby seems to be able to do it better....I think it's because he has bigger hands.

Mealtimes are still a bit of a struggle. We try to time it either immediately after a feed when he's happy to sit in his chair for 20ish minutes while we eat or while he's asleep. I'm in the market for a highchair which reclines so that from 3 months he can sit at the table with us. :happydance:

During the day especially, I will try to let him cry a little bit (usually 3-5 minutes) but I hate to hear him cry, as I don't want him to become reliant on us being at his beck and call (sounds harsh as he's only a month but I think you get my meaning). If it's a 'real' cry I will get up immediately but grizzles i normally take as a cue to get his food ready/nappy stuff out ready for when he wakes up. If he needs to sleep I will pop him down awake and let him cry/grizzle - we are now trying to not pick him up unless he needs something at night or when he's really tired. Instead we try to stoke his head, try to give him a dummy (Although they drive me nuts as he can't hold on to them) or a finger to suck on, and he will normally drift off. Done this a couple of times now (last night and just now) and he sleeps very well.

And Yes, Earl wakes us STARVING!! And will inhale the first 2oz of his feeds especially at night!

Hi colsy

Mealtimes Aidyn goes in his swing so he can all eat together, its a godsend:thumbup:

Our night time routine is very similar to yours buy Aidyn wakes up about 10.30 for a feed so I take him up, change nappy, feed then bed. I'm not in a hurry to change this as the evenings are lovely quiet cuddles time:cloud9: and as he is my 3rd and final baby I'm making the most of the cuddles while he wants them!!

Aidyn is not a grisly baby but during the day I will leave him if I'm doing other things but night time, he wakes, feeds, back to sleep all quietly.

:happydance:Been to health visitor today, Aidyn is 11lb2oz and 58cms:happydance:

I'm so pleased with him and me as I am feeding him myself so didn't expect him to pack the weight on quite as much, also I only managed 6 weeks feeding my other 2 but it's going so well I'm going to keep going:happydance:

Happy thanksgiving Chaos, enjoy!!

:hugs: to all x

Im sooooooo happy!! Tommy did a 6 hour stretch last nught so i feel all refreshed! ANd (dare i say it) we actually have some kind of routine!!!!!!! Im actually keeping on top of all the housework and cooking a meal most nights AND bubs is alive and well.
:D:D
Im soo pleased. Admittedly it goes in fits and starts but its actually all happening. We get up anytime from 7 - 10 depending on wen he wakes up for his feed between then. We have no time based routine yet but hes very good at knowing wat comes after what iykwim? Once wev got up i change him nd we go downstairs, he sits in the bouncer in the kitchen doorway while i empty the dishwasher, stick a load of washing, clean up and make sum brekky. Then he sits on my lap while i eat and watch some telly and feeds and falls asleep at sum point around then. Gives me a chance to tidy the front room n hoover and maybe hang up the washing depending on how long a sleep. Then he wakes for a feed, we chat for a bit and watch sum telly and i have sum lunch. Then its down the road for a look round the shops and get sumthin for dinner. Then we get back my mum comes home and i go and sort some dinner.
Alls well in the world of Thomas :D
weve managed to stick to this for the last week so fX itll stay that way, and with nyts like last night i deff have the energy to keep it up :) :) :)
Anyway im off to do a stew, will be back on later to have a read back through the last cuple pages and catch up on the bumpkin news. In the mean time hope every1 is well!!
xxxxxx

That's my lot for now, LOL

I read the "hungry immediately" and laughed- Emma has carved out a routine of being fed immediately after a sleep and anytime I deviate, she freaks out. This morning when she woke up, her sleeper was wet (bad mummy accidentally tucked the undershirt into the back of her diaper in my sleepy efforts to change her poopy diaper in the middle of the night) so I decided to change her first. You'd think I was trying to kill her- my ears hurt from the shrieks. Needless to say, I don't really hang out by her crib holding her hand- we just get down to business feeding the little dictator. We have a bedtime routine, but I have to admit it's not a great one- we bathe her after we eat dinner and then bring her back downstairs for a feed and snuggle. She usually falls asleep on my lap and I don't bring her back upstairs until about 10pm. I like watching her sleep and TV at the same time  I put a warm rice sock in her bed for a few minutes before putting her in her crib to make the transition from my arms to bed a little easier. She's been sleeping 5-6 hrs and then waking between 3-4am, feeding and then sleeping for another ~3hrs. As for mealtimes, most of them are spend juggling a baby at the boob while trying to eat, or speed eating in anticipation of a crying baby while she sits in her swing. We got a swing for my parents place too for Sunday dinners at their house. I put her in her Bumbo a couple days ago and she seemed facinated to be at the table with Mum and Dad :)

Chaos- Happy Thanksgiving!

Aimee-lou and Jlo- both your boys are getting big!

littlekitten- glad to hear James let you get a nap- sounds like you needed it after all the rough nights

KrisKitten- You're putting me to shame- housework and cooking are pretty pitiful around here :) I hope Tommy continues to be a good sleeper for you. I've got my fingers crossed that Emma is in a 6 hr sleeping routine too- it's been 3 nights in a row now.

Well, we went to have a family Christmas portrait done today and we weren't happy with the first 10 shots so they tried to take more poses but Emma had fallen asleep and would not wake up for anyone- figures, she never falls asleep like that during the day at home! Anyway, we settled on a pose where everyone was awake, and smiling but the very top of my head will be cut off on the 8x10 :dohh: The whole day has been a little off- we woke up this morning to discover that someone broke into our car while it was parked in our driveway and stole the automatic garage door openner remote- argh :growlmad: Had to disconnect the unit for fear of someone getting in the garage, closing the garage door and then kicking in the door to the house. Pain in the butt parking in the garage now...

Hope everyone has a good evening! :hugs:

So have you all seen those "boppy" breast feeding pillows? I got one second hand before Autumn was born, never really used it for feeding to be honest, I normally lay it at an angle on the sofa and sit her butt in the hole so she can sit up.

Well recently when I lay down and put her on my belly, she pushes her self up now, so today we found a new use for the Boppy pillow!!

https://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i260/ChaoticOtter/Forum%20uploads/1125096.jpg

She's been like that for about an hour lol, babbling away to the ceiling fan!

I know my ticker says she aint quite it yet as it works on Calender months, but today is her 8 week from birth "birthday" .. can you even believe that?! She's getting this little personality now lol.

Kris ~ Congrats on the sleep. Isn't it awesome? :) I'm making a stew also! Jamie Olivers Beef & Ale stew. It's so easy and awesome! Shove everything in a pot and cook for 3 hours. My kinda cooking haha.

Kaites ~ wow, what a strange thing to steal. You'd think they would go after the radio .. frigging pikeys.

Ok off to check dinner and run the hoover around.

Happy 8 week birthday Autumn :) We use our BF pillow the same way- Emma likes it much better than her tummy time mat. I also used it the other day on the laundry room floor when she was asleep in my arms and I didn't want to wake her- the pillow is way more useful as a baby seat/prop than for BFing!

OMG I have that EXACT sleep suit for Autumn hahaha.

That's how I normally use the Boppy on the sofa :)

I'm sure it's because they want to get into the house and figure that if they can get into the garage, they can close it and be hidden while they break down the door that leads into the house. I don't like that it happened so close to the holidays- seems like they are planning ahead, hoping to get our Christmas loot! We discovered that it happened right as we were getting into the car to go to our photo appointment and then hubby and I spent the whole time worrying that someone was breaking into our house while we were out. At least now that the unit is disconnected, we're no more vulnerable than anyone else, but it leaves me feeling like our neighbourhood isn't as safe as I thought

Well James is in his own room tonight girlies. Has taken from 10pm til just now to settle him cos he had tummy ache but he is just grizzling a little bit now. Have sent OH to Tesco to get Nutella cos I fancy some on toast and I was a bit down cos poor little man was screaming in pain from his tummy ache. Hope everyone sleeps well. Night night.

Well Noah seems settled but I cant sleep  He's awake and slightly grizzly but fingers crossed not too bad..... now I just need to get tired!
