Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

I just had to share this with you girlies I'm so proud. Had James led on our bed earlier while I was getting dressed and he rolled onto his side. He looked so pleased with himself! That is until he realised he couldn't roll back over again hehe.

Have just posted a new thread on self-settling at https://www.babyandbump.com/baby-club/227043-start-teaching-baby-self-settle.html#post3641938 Any of you managing to work this out yet? All a bit of a minefield in my opinion!

Evening all, Colsy I think we are having very similar issues and concerns with Noah and Monty. I check your threads now as i've gone to post on a couple of issues and you beat me to it

Well i've pulled a muscle in my neck today so im walking around very stiff and in pain. Would be so much better if I could take some ibuprofen for the inflammation but im allergic :dohh: It's amazing how much you use your neck muscles in everyday activities!!!!

Just cooked dinner, sausages in onion gravy with carrots and mash.

LK Noah is rolling about quite well, I have to tuck his blankets in carefully has he can roll onto his side. He's also been grabbing his toys on his chair today so im definitely noticing more activity from him and motor skills.

LK and Maffie - awww how sweet with the rolling etc. Earl is starting to get back on track with his. His arm slowed things like rolling and reaching but he's grabbing onto things (namely my hair and tassles on furniture lol) which is excellent. Earl can sort of arch himself onto his side but he falls back onto his back.....not long until I will no longer be able to turn my back on him for that 2 seconds to find my hairbrush lol.

Well - Earl is in his cot and we are sat in the living room at normal volume and light levels. He seems a bit disrupted today as my friend and her partner stayed a little too long and as he had a sleepy day yesterday he's been making up for it today by being super grouchy lol. Hopefully he will pass out soon enough,....his monitor keeps on sparking into life so at least that is working correctly (he's a noisy sleeper just like his mummy!)

Have a nice evening - I hope we're ok and I am off to make us a cuppa and get a slivce of cake. I feel we deserve it!

Morning All!!

Gosh, another disturbed night here; seems to be 1 good night followed by 1 bad night... Oh well, boobs were so sore and full this morning, CC had a feed and I had to use my breast pump, got 2 oz out of 1 boob! Good job it freezes!

We're off to the health visitor today, what fun! CC belly button is looking better although the umbilical is still growing, guess she's gonna have an outie and not an innie... Thats why we've to go see the health visitor, could do without it though... Dr's called yesterday to make her 8 week check, LOL should have fallen on Christmas day, as they only hold them every other week on a Friday; so we're off there on the 30th Dec...

Do we have to make the 6 week check up appointment for ourselves? I'll have to call Dr's later to find out (Health visitor, is at a different clinic)

Best make an effort to getting dressed... As I'm gonna walk DS to school, then go to tesco's all before seeing the HV... Then I can go straight home...

Maffie ~ If you feel sore, take your parm and take it into Dr's with you; you've a perfectly good reason to not take Noah out of his pram. Just be prepared to get snotty with the receptionist, if they're anything like ours... Hope you feel ok soon xxxx

Aimee-Lou ~ Sounds like Earl is grow well... DS was a big lad too, CC isn't too far behind LOL; Already had to buy her 0-3 months as all newborn stuff is rather tight now, not bad to say she's 4 weeks today! Wonder what she weighs now???

DS is already asking when OH & I are gonna try for another babe? LOL I really would be like the walking dead!?!? Mind I have noticed how little DS & OH do around the house now! Always pots that need doing, ironing to do and hoovering LOL No rest for the wicked!!! Have a great day all....

Morning ladies.....I'm so happy! First off, I didn't have to get up at 2.30 as Hubby did that feed (we'd agreed to do one each as we had expected Earl to be up all night) so his sleep patterns were undisturbed. He then went back down within the hour despite a hasty change of clothes and top and tail by hubby (which at night he will always scream blue murder!) He then slept through until 7am!!!!! Ate then went down AGAIN from 7.30-10am so Hubby and I got one hell of a lie in! Can't expect this often but I think it's safe to say that he likes his cot (I'm very jealous of his mattress, he looks oh so comfy!)

I put him in his moses for 5 minutes when we came down for breakfast and he looked so tiny and cramped. I think the travel cot is going to have to be broken out very soon indeed. It's funny as most babies like to be swaddled - if Earl can't flail, he ain't happy! lol

On the subject of self soothing. If I'm in the room, then I probably react a little quicker, but at night especially, I'll always leave him until it's a full blown cry (mainly through laziness I must confess, not any form of method). He's very good but he's very noisy and the first night or two I was constantly checking him to find him fast asleep but moaning or groaning. During the day I try to live by the same rules and majority of the time, he will sleep pretty well (I'm also really naff at putting him down asleep as I always wake him up lol....I think he's learnt to ignore me! lol)

Hope we're all ok ladies - have a nice day! xx

Hi Maffie, yeah I've noticed that we seem to be sharing similar probs. PM me whenever you like if you want to discuss stuff offline. Hope you had a better night of it last night. xx

Aimee-Lou, did you hear Desperado on Radio 2 this morning? :)

Hi girls :)

Sorry I've not posted for a while! I tend to only get chances to browse the forums in fits and starts, and you ladies post so fast that I never seem to keep up with the thread

Romilly is doing fine, she's now 7 weeks old and I don't know where the time has gone! For the past 3 or 4 weeks she'd only been wakinh up once in the night, then the last 2 nights she's slept through from about 11.30 till 7! So amazed, just hoping for it to continue  We both had our 6 week checks last week, clean bill of health on both accounts

Maffie, I think it's ridiculous you have to leave your pram outside. They can't tell you to not take Noah in though. I had Romilly with me for my 6 week check and it wasn't a problem! The dr even asked for a cuddle!! Does your carseat fit on your pram chassis? If it does, could you do that, then fold the chassis down at the docs and take it in with you that way?

Hope everyone is having a good day in spite of the horrible weather! :hugs:

I've a little fatty! CC weighed in at 9lb 10oz today, nearly a lb a week! We've to go see the dr on Thursday as CC's umbilical is still growing, not infected just growing. So we've to go see HV again next week... oh well...

I'm off for a walk down to the breast feeding group today, will let you know how I find it...

Talk about laugh, CC cried from leaving the house; until tesco's. Fed her at tesco's, and again in Dr waiting for HV and again after HV clinic... An afternoon clinic would be easier for me lol, wouldn't have to get my boob out as much lol... An old man came to talk too me at tesco's, he told me I was doing a fab job and not to be embarrassed, I'm not lol... (that was before his breakie, after his breakie he told me to carry on and just wait until shes bigger lol...) Left the house at 8.30 finally got home for 11am...

Right I'll catch you all later...

Aimee-Lou ~ Sounds as though Earl liks his big bed... Hope you have another good night tonight...

Maffie ~ How did your night go? Are you feeling any better? I do hope so...

Afternoon ladies. Well I had a lovely sleep last night. OH got home from work at 11.30pm and decided he would stay up with James as he was stirring for yet another feed, and feed him for me so I could get some sleep. So I slept from about 12.30 til 5.15am!! Was very nice. He was a little piglet yesterday. He had 4oz at 6.30pm, another 3oz at 9pm, another 2oz at around 10.30pm. And then he took another 2.5oz at 12.30ish. Followed by 3.5oz at 5.30am lol. Little piggy. Wish he would take bigger bottles though so he would go longer. He had 3oz at 10.30am and is just waking for another feed.

I had to change our 6 weeks checks cos I have to go to the hospital back in Oxford on the afternoon which they had booked our checks for. So we have that next week instead. Have a busy few weeks. Got appointment with my hand consultant on Thursday, postnatal group and an eye test on Friday. Then we are up at OH's parents for the weekend. Also have DSS from Saturday til Tuesday. Then next Thursday we have our checks. Then I have to go into hospital on 9th December for a sigmoidoscopy what fun :(

Aimee-Lou, did you hear Desperado on Radio 2 this morning? :)

No!! I was only saying a minute ago that I need to listen to the radio more - I have no idea who half the people on the new NOW cd are......I'm so mumsy!! lol:dohh:

Few photo's to share ladies

First off....Earl at 4 weeks celebrating by wearing 'proper' clothes. He hates them :dohh:

Then some pics of the newly finished nursery which only got the curtains put up yesterday before we put Earl to bed....we're organised you know! lol

Really should get some more pictures of me and hubby with him....Just realised I only have 1 picture of me with him, and that was taken on the first night home!

Look forward to hearing your report on the BF group. There's a few of these groups semi-local to me, but I haven't joined any as I am not sure what you actually DO at a BF group. I mean, obviously you BF ... but you can do that in your own home or at any other group, so I guess there's something a bit more to them than that. Do keep us posted. And I hope you enjoy your afternoon.

I'd like your opinions on this https://www.babyandbump.com/baby-cl...til-baby-asleep-anybody-else.html#post3649430 if you've got a minute. OMG, I really do think I'm going down the wrong path here!

Don't you worry about crying - I've had several nights where I've been in tears. It isn't baby blues or PND for me - it's simply frustration, not knowing what to do and being so sad seeing my little son in pain when he has colic/wind.

We also have had some days/nights where it feels like we're going backwards, but a day or night is a long time in the life of a little baby, so I now always try to remember that the next day or night is likely to be totally different.

I know how you feel about being alone. I haven't had a night alone yet, and I don't want any for a while yet thanks v much. I'm sometimes nervous when it's just me and Monty during the daytime - gosh, I really need to get over this and just get on with things!

Last night was quite a good one for us. Monty's waking hours were an hour out each time, so he ended up waking at 6am rather than 7am, which was a bit of a pain - at 7am I usually feel slightly normal but 6am still feels like the middle of the night to me, so in effect he had an extra night-time feed. But hey, in the general scheme of things we're doing reasonably well.

The thing that keeps me going when everything seems tough is to look into his gorgeous blue eyes and remind myself that OH and I made him all by ourselves. How clever were we? Tugs at the heart strings every time :)

I'm tempted to start using a dummy as Noah is a very sucky baby but oh is completely against it as he says it will be harder to get him off it at a later time.

Who is using a dummy and how do you find them?

Maffie - I really didn't want to introduce dummy but decided one night to give it a go and was a godsend. Rachel spits it out when she falls asleep and I take it away. She has never screamed for it. She is not interested in it during the day so I am not concerned about it. It might be worth a try with Noah.
xx
