Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Kaites when Noah is in a cloth bum he finds it harder to roll. What type of cloth nappies do you use? Ive been looking the the goodmama ones for night time but gosh they will cost me a bit including shipping.

Even though im not sleeping I think my body is getting used to it, or those new steroid tablets I have from the docs for my chest seem to be working well. Ive made a risotto for dinner, done a load of washing and washed the pots. Not managed that much in quite a few days

Noah has spots on his face too, although they seem to come and go pretty fast.

Evening all,

Well Chloe has been given some gripe water, its so hard to give to her ~ why you don't get a syringe or something in the box I don't know; like it's easy to give a 1 month old a 5ml spoon full!! I have managed to prop her / wedge her up a little in her moses basket and she has been in there for a decent nap which is promising. Poor little one just wanted to sleep on me all night last night, not that I mind but it's a bit scary when I am over tired!

Kaites ~ Mobyman, that made me chukkle, that's really sweet!

Okay, my question about playing was: Well, I have a swing chair for Chloe, a bouncer, some play mats etc, some with danglily things and others with crinkily materials for her to play with if she is on her tummy. Am I putting her on / in them too early? I noticed some of your babies are interating a little more with toys and bouncers etc but Chloe doesn't seem too fussed with them at the moment . . . whenever I put Chloe in her swing chair or bouncer chair she last about 5 mins then starts crying or if I get a mat out she last a few mins before she falls asleep. I do talk and sing to her, play silly mini games like 'Super Chloe' when I bounce her on my knee and she does like a Shaun the Sheep teddy so I get him out so she can have a good stare at him. I am just worried I am not stimulating her enough or do you think the play time we have is adequate? I don't want to push her too soon but at the same time I just worry that I am leaving her there bored too sometimes!

Kte - I wonder the same thing about Earl and his toys. He will do about 20-30 minutes in his bouncer but that's reliant on something going on around him....namely the dog wandering around. He loves the dog! lol

I have a play arch and a seperate play mat. He does like the play arch and has started to reach out for the toys. I drape the playmat over a cushion under one half and let him stare at the bright colours by lying him on the other half either way up - he loves to be on his tummy!

I also have a mobile on his bed which he has literally JUST started to watch.....it's everso funny as the toys go out of his line of sight and he tries to follow them by bending hs head right back .....he looks so puzzled!! lol

My advice....keep on going. Try her out for a couple of minutes at a time. Just be wary not to over-stimulate her as Earl can be a terror to get to sleep after a play session that's been particularly challenging for him lol. I have some lovely scratches on my arm from his venting his frustrations lol....this little red-head is going to have a fiery temper! Just keep an eye on her eyes as as soon as she starts to watch things, her hands will follow.

The other thing I play is 'this little piggy' to try to get him to recognise that his feet are indeed attached to him....he stil startles even now if he's not expecting you to touch his feet and something brushes them. reminds me....must put foot finders on his christmas list to granny! lol

Thanks Aimee :dohh: never thought about putting a cusion under a play mat a bit to prop her up! Maybe I was taking tummy time a little too literally! lol I will keep at it and try mix it up for her a bit too :D

Awh Earl is a little red head? I never noticed in your pics :) I was a little upset that Chloe isn't a red head like me, she looks like her Daddy and has his hair colour too. I bet no one would realise she is my little girl to look at us! She knows who Mummy is tho and that is all that matters! :D

Kte ~ Autumn didn't really get interested in toys till about 2 weeks ago. Now she is obsessed with the Giraffe on her play mat lol. She really HATES belly time if I lay her flat, but if I prop her up so her chest is on her boppy pillow, she'll sit there for aaaaages looking around and babbling.

Talking of which, I put her in our bed about 6am this morning between us. She fell back to sleep. I woke up at 9am to find her having a full on conversation with the air conditioning vent above the bed  I just laid there and listening to her for about 15 minutes lol.

Re looking like their Daddys, Autumn looks EXACTLY like the DH. She has my big ol bottom lip but that's it lol. She looks like a mini bald him!!!

We use mostly Motherease diapers. I've got 12 Sandys and 12 one-size, both in bamboo terry. They are a bit bulky but they have never leaked (well, except the time I tucked her shirt into the diaper- my fault, not the diaper's) and that is my biggest criteria. I use the Motherease airflow covers and also have one Bummis brites cover (it leaks- argh!). I like the Sandy's more than the one size but I hate that I'm going to have to buy new ones once she hits 20 lbs (they are already starting to get tight around her chunky legs). I've never heard of the goodmama diapers but checked them out online- I like the different patterns they come in. If you get them, I'd love to know how you like them. When I bought the Sandy's, I went to a local cloth diapering store and they also recommended the Bamboozle. I might get a couple of those next.

Kte- i thought Chloe looked a bit like you when you posted the cake cutting pic. Emma started off looking like me but as time goes by she seems to be morphing into my hubby. Oh well- like you said, just important she knows I'm her mummy. Re play: I do pretty much the same stuff as you do too. We sing the ABCs and some other "educational" songs that I used to do with my kindergarten class too- mostly because I'm terrible at remembering the lyrics to most of the other kiddie songs :)

Chaos- I'm so jealous that you are able to go outside without bundling up for a family photo! :) Gorgeous pic of the three of you!

We were successful in our shopping efforts today- bought a "big girl" car seat that covers from 5-100 lbs. Emma should fit in it with her snowsuit on without any problems with the straps being long enough!

Hope you are having a good evening!

Thanks for the playtime info :D I'm sure Chloe will be much happier next time she has her awake moment!

Chaos ~ Thanks, I think Chloe doesn't like it flat on her mat too, she loves it like that on my tummy, head held up high and peeking around at things but just not on her mat!

What an expression on Autumn's face in that second pic! :flower:

Kaites ~ Lol, I have forgotten lots of nursery rhyms too, I think I must be a broken record for her! I ended up putting on some CD's to sing along to, I find I remeber lyrics better when a song is playing along at the same time.

I see what you mean about Emma changing a bit from your signature and avatar pics :flower: Its amazing how one day you look at them and the next they have gone and changed / grown already!

Well Chloe is 1 month old today! :happydance: We have one of those photo frames with a space for each month leading up to a year so we took a few pics this morning to put on in today :cloud9: Here are some of the pics :D

Kte - Earl is most definitely a red head!! Both hubby and I have red in the family so we would have been shocked if he weren't!!

With the playmats, our play arch has a 'pillow' which I prop him up on and he loves it!! I've caught him falling asleep on it before now! It has arches that go over and he lies the other way up and watches them! The only issue I can see is that, just like everything else, he's not going to fit onto it for very long!! lol

All your babes are just gorgeous....plenty of potential girlfriends for Earl later on lol. Earl is definitely a spit of his Dad. I don't have a really good picture to prove it but I will try to find some.

In the meantime, here's some of Earl and his lamb/cow/horse....it's supposed to be a sheep but hubby isn't convinced! lol

Oh and one of Dylan enjoying the same mat...it's been washed about 20 times because he keeps sleeping on the blasted thing!! :dohh:

Kte- Happy 1 month old Chloe! She's gorgeous too- pretty smile :) I love her dress- aren't girls so much fun to dress?!

Aimee-lou- Earl is a cutie too. I love the playmat. It looks comfy- no wonder the dog enjoys it :) Our cat is afraid of Emma so she was into sleeping on the playmat until she discovered it was for the baby. Now she avoids even walking over it (baby cooties, lol).

This morning I decided to take Emma to get checked by the doctor since I thought I saw a white spot in her mouth as she was screaming at the mall yesterday. Sure enough we've got a mild case of oral thrush. Luckily we caught it before my boobies started to hurt. Got her weighed at the same time- 14 lbs 5 oz, so she weighs less than my bathroom scale estimated her to be (kinda relieved she's not quite 15 lbs to be honest- I want her to stay small as long as possible). Next scheduled doc appt is dec 7th and she'll be getting her first shots then- I'm not looking forward to that visit :(

I'm off to my parents for a late lunch/early dinner. We used to go for dinners but have noticed that Emma is super grumpy the next day. I'm thinking it's because it messes up our nighttime routine so we're going to try getting together earlier in the hopes that it makes for a more pleasant next day. She slept from 9-4:30 straight last night (7 1/2 hrs!!!!! :wohoo:) and I'm hoping for a repeat performance tonight. Hope everyone is having a good weekend! :hugs:

Evening all,

Well Chloe had her first outing without her Mummy and Daddy today. It was nice to have a few hours to not have to be up and down all the time but I really missed her at the same time, OH and I were like 'what do we do now?'!! Complete opposite of a few weeks ago! My Mum and Aunt took her to see my other Aunt and my new cousin who is a week younger than Chloe :D

Aimee ~ We have red heads on both sides too so I was so sure she would be! Ah well! I can back you up, its a sheep, I was given a mini one for Chloe! Awh Dylan your doggy wants to join in! The amount of times my cats have gone up to the swing chair only to freak out becuase it moves, I must film them! Bless them!

Lol wouldn't it be freaky if in years to come some of the bumkin boys and girls ended up together!

Kaites ~ I think Emma has a nice smile too, such a happy look in her eyes in the pics too. I sooo love dressing her, she is better dressed than me! I look forward to choosing out a nice outfit for her, infact OH and I still fight over who gets to dress her! Enjoy the dinner and hope your routine isn't disrupted.

I managed to elevate half of Chloe's moses basket last night so she got to sleep a bit better with the wind issue, she only woke at 11pm, 3am and 6am and settling her back down was quite quick in comparison. I also think she isn't getting enough food, her poo has started to be a bit dryer and a yellow with a hint of green, plus she is having difficulty doing a dirty nappy. I am contemplating upping her feed dosage next time I make up some bottles. She is currently on 120ml so I think I will pop it up to 150ml.

Have a good evening all :hugs:

Kte and Kaites - both Emma and Chloe look very well dressed. We have 'clothes' for Earl but to be honest, he's so comfy in his grows and sleepsuits I just keep him in them unless we go anywhere or have people coming. My Mum is coming tomorrow and I have to choose an outfit for him to wear - I am trying to work through the whole of his wardrobe at least once. People bought him all sorts of proper clothes but I feel bad as he doesn't wear them much lol.

I will be so glad when Earl finally smiles properly. He sort of half smiles, or burps straight after, but no real grins yet. He's 5 weeks on Monday....where has the time gone. Our acheivement for today though was to go to sleep within half an hour of a full on bath. Mummy brought out the whole arsenal of 'sleepy time' tricks. Warm water, warm bottle, lavender, carpenters on the stereo, low lights, massage - the works. I think he enjoyed it and was asleep by 9.10 having gone up at 8....usually takes at least an hour just to get him to sleep, let alone have a full works of bath time too!

We also have offically relegated the moses basket. The travel cot is up and Earl loves it! I put it up while he was asleep. I transferred him while asleep and he immediately sprawled straight out with a limb in each direction! Looked so sweet. Weird to think though that when he was 10 days old we had to put him in width ways as he looked lost otherwise.....now he wont fit width ways! :dohh:

Right, I'm off to have a bath I think.....once Bruce almighty is over! Have a good evening!

just a quick post, i dnt have a lot of time atm but
um iv had a very stressful pretty bad few days, me and OH had sum problems and wer still dealing with them....
but hes proposed :) it was earlier than he planned to apparently he was ghoing to in the new year after all the xmas xpenses were over and he could afford a nice ring but due to an argument (over something i cant bring myself to go into) in which i said i didnt think he actually did want to see us through and he was only around coz he felt hehad to be not coz he wanted he decided to pop the question early :)
We're not telling ne1 we know until i have a ring so we're waiting for new year to make it official but i had to at least announce on here.

Wer definatly looking at a long engagement tho lol, we both want tommy to be walking and aware (iykwim?) so he can be part of the wedding :)
Anyway i better be off, theres always a million and 1 things to do...
Hope everyones happy xxxx

Congratulations KrisKitten! Sorry it had to take an argument but I'm glad that you're so happy!!

Congrats KrisKitten!

Well we have had a nice weekend. Picked DSS up yesterday morning and then drove to Bristol to see my parents. They wanted to give him his presents for christmas cos they won't see him now til after christmas. Had great fun having Wii Fit contests lol. I'm sure my dr would be horrified as I havnt had my check up yet but ho hum lol. DSS is sound asleep but James is being a pain in the butt and won't settle cos daddy fed him with the lights on. So got him in his bouncer on vibrate in the hope that he will give in and go to sleep. Also got all the lights down low so perhaps it will work lol. We shall see.

'Morning' all,

Hope everyone is okay :D

Congrats Kriskitten! :flower: Sory to hear about your other probs and hope they get sorted for you soon. I know what you mean about waiting, we are going to do the same so Chloe can be a flower girl ~ only prob to that plan is my OH still has to ask! :haha:

We have a fire safty person coming today to check out the house little bit worried about what they will say but it will be good to sort out a plan and make the house safer.

Cheeky girl is wide eyed and the cats are hankering for attention too  OH wont be home for a few hours as his dad was admitted to hospital again yesterday, hopefully he will be okay, they have done a few x-rays and scans. We took Chloe to see him yesterday, it always melts my heart when he sees her, his whole face lights up and he is the type of guy who doesn't show his emotions

Good morning!

KrisKitten- congrats on the engagement! Have fun wedding planning :)
Kte- hope your FIL is okay and the fire safety visit goes well. That sounds like a good idea to have the house checked. I know that our smoke alarms work (I've burnt enough food to know they are well tested!) but I've been meaning to get a fire extinguisher. Somehow that kind of stuff seems more important now.
Aimee-lou- we pretty much keep Emma in sleepers most of the time too but I am trying to make an effort to dress her up in each outfit before she outgrows them. Poor kid is going to be dressed in some strange "pants with skirts over top" outfits soon- snowing this morning and she still has lots of dresses and skirts that have never been worn :) Cute outfit on Earl in your new avatar- he is a big boy!

Today's mission is returning the car seat we bought on Friday :( Seems our super awesome 5-100 lbs seat is too big for the backseat of our car :( It never crossed my mind that there could be a problem fitting it in so we are back to square one.

Hope everyone is having a good day! :hugs:

Mornin!!

Just poking my head in quickly as we have a super busy day. Today is Autumns 2 month check at the pediatricians, I'm really excited to see how much she has grown :) Tonight we're having friends around for a late Thanksgiving dinner.

Quick question, has anyone got their period yet? I just gone mine, exactly 8 weeks after birth. It affected my milk supply BIG time, to the point 30 minutes pumping only produced a combined amount of 1oz

Now my period is nearly over the supply seems to be slowly coming back up tho. Bah I was hoping it'd would stay away longer, however I can't complain as it didn't give me any cramps and was only 3 days.

Ok girls I gotta scoot!

Afternoon all, well Noah had a bad night but i'm thinking they are linked to when he cant poo so need to up my fibre and see if that helps. Touch f thrush back too. :dohh:

I tend to leave Noah in babygros, although he got bought a gorgeous lined pair of jeans and tigger hoodie which he wore when we had a meal out with family. I've bought loads of outfits from 3-6 and 6-9 months as I thought he'd be better in them at that age.

I need recommendations on travel cots as we need one quite soon.

Monty wears babygrows almost all the time. We asked people to buy clothes presents for when 3months and older, and we've taken a few things back to change to an older size. At the moment, Monty is lucky enough if mummy or daddy has time to dress him at all, let alone in a proper outfit! We do have about four outfits, but they are definitely only used when we go to the mums group or when we have visitors.

Do other people have days where their baby just seems to cry or grizzle for the entire time they're awake? We had that on Saturday. Monty was either asleep or crying. At first it's upsetting ... then it's frustrating ... then we almost got to the point that he was doing it, which caused a vicious circle as I then got upset again that I could possibly ignore my own child crying. Anybody else?
