Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Kte - I'm sorry that you're having so much trouble. If it's any consolation, despite the fact that I barely get chance to eat these days, I still have about 1 stone to lose (bearing in mind I only put on 1.5 stone through pregnancy!) and I have no clothes that fit at all! I have my oh so stylish SIL visiting today and I feel like a right frumpy lump! And I had a jelly belly before, so you can only imagine what mine's like now lol! :dohh: Maybe in 2010 we should do a weight loss challenge! lol....not doing that sodding special K thing again....I tried it before my wedding and ended up putting on weight because I was starving all the time and would eat double at tea time to normal! :dohh:

LK - Sounds like a nightmare! Hubby and I gave up with night feeds quite early on because he just doesn't wake up and ends up making mistakes and getting angry at Earl for not eating quick enough  I also have the trouble getting back into bed now, but I've given up being tactful. Cold feet to the small of his back will always get him to move!! I hope you managed to get back to bed.

Guess who slept through?! Earl was really hard to settle last night - he'd had a bad day with teething but he eventually went down at about 7.45pm after having me and hubby running up and down staris for 45 mins :dohh: But......he slept very soundly indeed. Hubby's alarm went off at 4 for him to go to work (he's home by 1.30! :happydance:) and I hadn't had to get up to him. He didn't actually wake up til 6.35 and has just gone back down for a nap after inhaling 7oz and then sitting and eating his hands for a little over an hour! lol

Oh and FYI - I managed to get the TT gummy teether dummies in Sainsbury's yesterday. They're £5 in babies r us etc....they were £2.77!! And they seem to work too which is good.

Anyhoo...I'm going to have a chill out before doing my last lot of jobs - vacuum, washing up, finish trifle, wash the play arch as the dog slept on it having walked through a load of coal dust, oh and bath a very coaly dog! :dohh: We have the MIL, SIL and their partners visiting today, my parents visiting tomorrow morning and then we're off to see hubby's grandparents and extended family tomorrow afternoon, then to see my Dad on Sunday! Roll on Monday - While Christmas without visits was great, I wish we had done them earlier :nope:

Have a good day ladies, enjoy your new year's eve and lastly....

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!!!!

I did finally manage to get to bed at around 4am. Now I'm up, breakfasted, bathed James and am now feeding him 1 handed lol. OH is still in bed despite having been poked numerous times so looks like I will be doing the bottles as well as making sure I have everything to take to the paediatrician... oh and the appointment is in 1 hour!!

Well, i wonder if we are going through a growth spurt here... Emma hasn't slept through for the past 2 nights and yesterday was feeding every hour and refused to let OH hold her, like she was afraid of her meal ticket leaving her  She's napping on me now- probably exhausted from not sleeping much in the past 36 hours! I'm hoping she sorts herself out by this evening- we are having a pretty low key new years with just my brother over for some drinks and movies, but I'd still rather not have a baby glued to my chest the whole evening iykwim  Anyway, I decided that Emma and I needed to reward ourselves for the sleep deprivation and did a little online shopping- new cloth diapers, an amber teething necklace and some baby legs :happydance: My work is still paying me quarterly bonuses based on last year's work and I just got my pay-out and spent it in record time

I hope everyone has a lovely new years eve and best wishes for 2010!!

:happydance: Chloe is officially 2 months old today :happydance:

I had a sweet yet funny thought this morning . . . it was around this time last year that all our little bumpkins were being conceived! I know Chloe was around the 2nd week of Jan. Looking back it truly has been an amazing year that has just gone by!! :D

Aimee, I spotted those teethers in Tesco at the same price as your found them, I havent get them as yet but am seriously considering getting them in for when the time comes!

LK ~ sounds like a nightmare with your OH and the night feeding! Like Aimee says, be cruel to wake him up! he he! How did the appointment go?

Odd days I wish I could have some night time relief but nope, to be honest she usally sleeps quite well, although last night she woke at 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc etc . . . lol she asleep now but I hope it doesn't mean her awake / sleep time is messed up!! Think its the snuffles but the nasal spray has made her seem much better today.

Kaites ~ hope Emma let you have some time to relax and celebrate tonight. Odd question, what do you use to get poop stains out of LO's diapers? Chloe has had a few leak incidents and some of her clothes have been stained, am I too late or is there something I could soak the clothes in and then wash them in? I wasn't fussed with the odd baby grow but she serioisly stained some new pants!

xx HAPPY NEW YEAR xx

Happy new year girls!

Kte - I know what you mean about the being conceived this time last year. James was conceived the last week of January, on the day my grandad died. Strange to think that cos its going to be a day of mixed emotions.

I have decided just to do all the night feeds myself from now on. I can't trust OH to not fall asleep and poor James wouldn't even smile at him this morning. He just kept giving him the bottom lip job. Felt so sorry for James and a little bit sorry for OH.

Hello all just a quick post to say HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone xxxxxxxxx

kte- congrats on 2 months!! I usually use oxyclean for the stubborn stains even though you aren't really supposed to use it on the diapers (wears them out faster, I think)- that's what I used on Emma's clothes after our xmas disposable blow-outs and it worked well. I gather the ladies in the UK use something called napisan (I think that's how it's spelled) and I remember someone posting in the baby club section about how she used it on LO's clothing also to get out the poop stains. Hope that helps a little :) I was thinking about the whole "this time last year" stuff too. All through pregnancy I kept having to quote December 28th as my LMP to the docs and Emma was conceived while we were on vacation in january. No tropical vacations planned this winter, just enjoying our souvenir baby :) I'm sure this year will go by just as quickly with all the LO's milestones.

Just wanted to drop by to wish you all a very happy new year! Not had any chance to catch up..alot of illness here at the mo..everyones been ill :nope: Ethan on antibiotics for a chest infection,I'm on them for ear infection, ds6 been on them for ear and chest infection..daughter hasnt been on them but has had some kind of infection..to be honest, I think weve had swine flu, apart from ethan, all the symptoms match up.

Best go..my daughters 12 tommorow so she has 5 friends to stay over tonight and there getting abit rowdy so I'm gonna go be a party pooper and tell them to tone it down abit :haha:

Happy New Year girls

Thinking back to last year how different a year makes!!!

Glad its not just my hubby who is a nightmare when on night feeds! I feel like i might as well get up and do it myself as he makes so much noise, gets annoyed at our Lo if she doesnt eat fast enough then doesnt get her to finish the bottle so he can get back to sleep quicker (thats if he doesnt nearly fall asleep feeding her!) so she then wakes up earlier for next feed and instead of just getting up he 'sshhhssshh's' her for about an hour really loudly which drives me nuts!!! He's a great dad and during the day he's got loads of patience but at night he's a nightmare. I refuse to do his share of the feeds though even if it does mean im laying awake beside him making sure he doesnt fall asleep.

The problem is that OH works 60 hours a week so I feel bad about making him do night feeds. But I was feeling so poorly yesterday that I jumped at the chance for an extra hours sleep. Completely bloody backfired though. The poor kid is traumatised. I went to do our normal routine with his 9pm bottle (he wanted it at 8.20pm instead) and got him into his babygro etc. Switched off the lights as I usually do, put the bottle in his mouth and he just totally freaked out! Started screaming, proper frightened cry, it was horrible. I switched the light back on and it took me a good 10 minutes to calm him down enough to take his feed. Then I took him back into the nursery which just had the nightlight on and put him into his cot. Had to keep going back in for about 20 minutes to put his dummy in and make sure he had his muslin. I just feel so bad for him and I really hate OH right now for making him like it. I'm hoping it doesn't last long cos I don't want to hate OH but he scared my little boy and yeesh these maternal instincts are so damn strong huh?! I want to make him as scared as James was. He wouldn't smile at OH all morning and only started smiling at him not long before he went to work.

Hopefully James made him feel guilty then :hugs: hope he settles soon once he realises it won't happen again x

Its interesting to see other OH's finding the length of time a baby feeds too long!

Right, Im off to feed the cats some 'New Year' meat and nudge OH to see if he wants to wake up and celebrate the New Year for all of 5 mins!

Well he took his 3am feed absolutely fine. Mostly I think because he was still half asleep and as soon as that bottle was in his mouth his eyes drifted shut again lol. I love doing that feed cos hes so contented and sleepy and cute. Hes now awake and doing his usual 'first bottle of the day' naughtiness. He wakes screaming like hes never been fed, then takes about 1oz and decides its play time lol. Then about 20 minutes later he suddenly realises 'oh hang on i'm hungry' lol.

I was still awake at midnight and I'm bloody amazed James didn't wake cos there were some incredibly loud fireworks and then people shouting outside our flat. Not a sound from him. OH finally got in from work at 4.45am bless him. And he has to be back at 12 and has to go via Tesco to pick up some stuff for work so he has to be up at 10.30am having only got to bed at about 5.15am. Poor guy. I told him about James and he did look like he felt quite bad. I'm sure James will add his portion of guilt as only a baby can hehe.

Happy New Year, can't believe its 2010. Here's to a happy and healthy year and watching our gorgeous little miracles grow up.

happy new years all! Emma had her first real fit of giggles last night while sitting in the Bumbo. She's giggled lots before but not as much as this. Like any good parent, I ran for the camera :) Here goes my attempt at attaching the video...

kaites, omg, emma is so cute with her little chuckle!!!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Can u believe that around this time last year, we all started conceiving our babies??? god that went by fast.....

I dont post in here much but im so excited!

I can see two little white dots on Rivers gums! bottom left front and top right front.

have any of your october bubbies got any teeth coming through?

James has had white lumps on his gums for weeks. Apparantly ( so my dr says) they can take months to actually break through the gums. Think he is starting to cut them now though cos he keeps getting rosy cheeks and is gnawing on everything!

Happy new year everyone!

I hope we're all ok and had a good New Year. We had a busy couple of days and I've only just got back on the computer!

Earl has been a star with all the excitement. We were at a family do yesterday and we didn't get home til nearly 8. I just did his normal routine then and he took to it fine and slept til 3am. We're going to try some sleep training tonight as he's waking in the night then waking at 6-7am and not wanting a lot to eat. I think it probably means that he doesn't actually need the night feed....or at least not at 1am anyway, so we're going to try just going through the motions and offering him a little water instead tonight to see if we can get him to go through a little better - he was doing really well and then had a growth spurt and it's set him back majorly so we'll give it a go.

Not a lot going on apart from it looks like we're snowed in....again!! :dohh: At least Hubby has a few days off now so I don't have to worry about him. Supposed to be off to see my Dad on Monday though....

At the moment I'm trying to find a highchair but I can't find one with consistent reviews. I would like a booster seat style one that you attach to your dining chairs but I can't find one that looks good. I've put up a thread in baby club but no-one has replied really. I'm looking at this one:

Or:

Any advice ladies?

Anyhoo's....I'm off to snuggle up on the sofa with hubby! :happydance: Hope 2010 is going well for everyone

Evenin' all!

Kaites ~ cute vid!

Aimee ~ 1st one reminds me of one that a couple we know has for their 2yr old. I have only seen him sat on the floor in it though eating supper! I did think it looked quite nifty but how it is on a chair next to a table I don't know. My house is quite small so something like that looks ideal rather than a hughe chair filling the front room . . . her toys do that already! Hope you get some replies to your post.

Does anyones OH turn up the TV when LO cries? Drives me bonkers . . . er that's not how it works love! :haha:

Lol Kte - my OH does that. Especially if he is watching Top Gear lol.

Well I am feeling very chilled out now. James is very much in his routine and was fed and in bed at 9pm so I went and had a soak in the bath with a book. Feel great now lol so I'm going to go put a DVD on and curl up in bed. Night girls.
