Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Yayy Monty!! That's great news Colsy! Emma was similar with the colic disappearing overnight. I'm sure that's a big relief and nice xmas present since it sounded like Monty's colic was quite bad.

Hi everyone!

Hope the moves go well Maffie and Flora.

Congrats to Colsy, Mr Colsy and Monty!! I bet you're so relieved!!

Congrats too to Kaites...you got the 1000th post!!

Well, I've had a bit of an epiphany. Earl's apetite has been fluctuating for about a week. He's gone back to waking in the night, he's having trouble with the amounts he can eat....it all got a bit much for him (classic growth spurt territory I think you'll agree). The problem with Earl is that he doesn't so much do spurts as 'weeks on end!' lol so as hubby is on holiday we decided to try putting him onto hungry baby. Well last night it became quite obvious this was not going to work. Earl wouldn't take more than 3oz all day (but still eating every 2.5 hours....kind of defeating the object of what we were trying to acheive) got really bunged up and upset and generally wasn't himself. This morning I decided enough was enough and we put him back on first stage. He's already back up to 5oz every 2 and a bit hours, and is sleeping soundly at the moment! Back to my darling Earl. I guess we will have to see how his sleep is affected. The last few nights it's been really erratic going from 7ish til anywhere from 12-4am, then every 3ish hours from whatever time he was fed at, despite having HB! As you can tell....it really didn't agree with him. I'm going to speak to the HV at clinic on Wednesday and basically TELL her that I've tried HB....I'm not going to P**S about swapping his milks when SMA 1 works so well for him. I will then get her advice about weaning etc. I am now officially going back to 'on demand' feeding and we will see how we get on! I've put a thread up on formula feeding basically saying that I'm over worrying about this! It's been doing my head in and pretty much ruined our weekend for all of us!!

Other than that we're great! Earl isn't yet mobile as such but is getting to be a lot more co-ordinated and will hold onto objects if you give them to him...he loves helping me to fold the washing as I give him woolies, cloths, towels, socks, all different textures lol. Most are starting to make their way to him mouth though so I will have to watch I don't give him anything of hubbies as I don't think he'd be impressed! :dohh: I'm sure it wont be long until we're having to baby proof everything as he's getting stronger by the day and will soon be trying to sit himself up I'm sure.

I'm still trying to decide on this whole high chair issue. Bit of a moot point though as we're pretty much flat broke now until the 15th when it's pay day! :dohh:

Anyhoo's I'm off......Earl's been asleep an hour which normally means we'll want food soon. Bless him:cloud9:

Have a good day ladies. I've got to take down the christmas tree this aft.....here's to a great 2010!!

Afternoon ladies. Hope everyone is well. James is having a pretty good day apart from the teething. Went to mothercare and bought him a Bumbo, teething hands which you put in the fridge, those tommee tippee gummy teether dummy things and some bonjela. Tried him in the Bumbo which he thought was great. Also gave him some bonjela on the gummy teether. He wasn't too keen to start with and was trying to suck it but then he realised that actually he could bite it and it made his gums feel better lol. He is napping in his cot right now. He did so good last night. Slept from 9pm to 5am! Without waking at all.

A few of you have mentioned using a Bumbo already. Does this mean your babies are all supporting their own head quite happily? Or have you just tried baby in the Bumbo while holding them in there, even though they can't yet support their own head?

Earl will happily sit in his Bumbo for about a minute or two but then he gets tired. I don't leave him longer than a minute but I do it every day to get him used to it. Well worth the money so far though.

Since I wrote my last post, Earl has learned to lean forward on his own. I was sat with him on my lap this evening. He is obsessed with the Sky remote, and I wasn't really paying attention and he fell forwards. I thought I had dropped him lol. I leaned him back and he did it again, and again! He was using his legs to counterweight and everything. All to get hold of the sky remote lol :dohh:

Good afternoon ladies!

Hope everyone is having a good evening (since most of you are on the other side of the pond :)) Emma and I went to the baby wellness centre to have her weighed since she'll be 3 months on Wednesday and we don't have any doc appts this month (none planned anyway!). She's now 17lbs 12oz!! She's more than doubled her birth weight- no wonder my arms are sore at the end of the day :) The nurse also confirmed that she is teething but told us to expect it to take about a month for the tooth to erupt. She also advised us not to use orajel (I think it's the same as bonjela) since it mixes with the saliva, which the baby then swallows, numbing the throat and interferring with her gag reflex, making it more likely that she'll aspirate stuff into the lungs. I bought some yesterday- I wish I knew that before I wasted more money. Anyway, just thought I'd share that info since a lot of us are in the same boat with early teethers.

Colsy- We're using the Bumbo too but I think Emma was a bit of a freak with strong neck muscles though- she's been able to hold her head up on her own for short periods since birth. Like Aimee, we started with just a couple minutes at a time and now she can happily sit there for about 10 minutes before she starts to fuss.

Aimee- I think Emma is another constant grower too :) I'm glad to hear Earl is back to his happy self :) That's cute about the remote too!

Morning all,

Snow snow snow!

I woke with a really nice cold this morning too, hot and cold feaver. Chloe decided that 7am was enough of a lie in for me and it was time to get up. So I had a lemsip which has helped a bit.

Chloe's swing chair has developed a squeek! :dohh:  Its amazing to think when she first went in it she hated it, she loves it now. I think it is helping her with her snuffles too as she is more upright but not exactly sat up iykwim. She wakes up, eyeballs the lights and the little bug thing we attached on there and then falls asleep for a bit. Then repeat! lol. In fact I am a little worried she spends too much time in there! That is why I got her play mat out which she likes better now, she gets quite frustrated since she can't reach anything, she can if I put something in her hand but she hasn't figured out reaching up to grab yet. She is a little madam, has her Daddies patience!

Hope everyone is okay.

Kaites ~ thanks for the teething gel warning!

Colsy ~ we don't have a bumboo for Chloe, she does like to sit up though but does get tired easily.

Aimee ~ Awh, Earl wants to be in charge of the remote already!! Its amazing how out of all the toys out there the humble TV remote is more appealing! They should make a baby TV remote toy, maybe they do?!?

Quick hello, well part moved and im snowed in  on oh's work connection to get a rather painfully slow connection.

Well well well ladies! I've just sat here and read all 101 pages of this, over a few days obv lol..
And I must say that all these bumpkin babies are coming on in leaps and bounds!! Havent posted on here yet, gawd knows why, feel as if I know u all inside out now!
Ashtons 12 weeks old today! Cant believe how fast its gone!!
He was due his injections this morning as he was ill with a cold on the original appointment! So anyway, I went to take him to the docs but the snow was really bad and came stupidly close to hitting a car, was enough to scare me so turned straight around and went home, now snowed in!!
So, now that im going to be more active in this group, how are you all today?
x x

Good Evening Ladies....

Happy New Year....

I'm sorry I've not been on here for what feels like ages... OH Mum & SIL have been very demanding... Put our foot down for the New Year, more so when OH got a call saying new job doesn't start until 11th Jan... Bummer, means febs gonna chuffing tight... Oh well... We've taken the extra time and are using it to empty our room of the boxes left from the build, trying to get us moved out of CC room...

How's everyone else doing? CC is starting to have the odd night where she sleeps all the way through... She's now in her cotbed rather than the moses basket, settles much better; we've had to add extra sheets since the snows arrived. Not using the gro-bags now though...

Walked upto the clinic today to have CC weighed again I was curious to see how much she's put on over Christmas as she's been sleeping through a couple of nights and awake often most. Turns out she's put on half a pound in 2 weeks... She's now 12lb! No wonder shes nearly out of 0-3 months, had to buy 3-6 month babygrows... They seems so big; but the 0-3 have been lucky if they've lasten a month...

We're still breast feeding which is good, as money is so tight...

Evening ladies. Hope everyone is well.

Colsy - James is a freak lol and has been able to hold his head for short periods since he was born. He can now sit up if you support the bottom of his back so he is quite happy in his Bumbo. Especially cos we have the tray so I put toys on it and he can reach them hehe.

Evening all,

Well I feel awful. Have a nice cold. Chloe is still recovering from hers. She has been very grumpy today though. She has had a few playful moments but when she tries to settle and sleep she just ends up crying for no reason. I either have to bounce her to sleep or the swing helps send her to sleep. She has started to chew her hands but sometimes doesn't take a feed. Sometimes she just kind of chews on the teat then spits is back out again. Does this sound like the beginning of teething?

Aimee ~ like your Snowman & Earl avatar!

SaraJayne_x ~

Eswift ~ Good to hear you are putting your foot down, you seem to have been so busy! Another good thing about breast feeding, you don't have to panic that the shops will be shut due to the snow and you can't get formula! OH was on the M1 in his wagon today and there was so much snow, everyone was going about 25mph.

LK ~ how did James's appointment go in the end for his arm / leg movements? Its good he is grabbing things. Chloe just looks at things with a really frustrated face, I keep helping her and I am sure she will figure it out soon.

Thanks Kte - Hubby and I built him in the garden this afternoon (we're just big kids really! lol) He's 6 foot tall! We've had about 8 inches of snow today and it keeps on coming.....how is it over your way?

Hope everyone has had a good day. I'm a little worried as Earl is supposed to be going for his jabs (first set - he's 10 weeks now ) but we're pretty much snowed in. Not sure but we'll make a judgement call tomorrow. I also got my BLW book in the post today...I'm 70 pages in and it all makes total sense. I can see me reading it all this evening lol.

I also have toothache....again. It's not as bad as it was when I was PG though so I can cope, and I'm allowed nurofen!

Hubby is just putting Earl to bed (he's had a sleepy day so we're running a little late tonight lol). Bless him, he's grown again, his face has changed and he all of a sudden looks really grown up....my baby is getting so big lol.

We're going to spend tomorrow sorting out how to keep me off work for a further 3 months so that Earl wont have to go to childcare. we have a gap of June-August where I wont get SMP but hubby wont have started Uni, and I really don't want him to have 3 months of upset for the sake of it! Got to try to work the budget and try to sell a few things (including all my SCUBA gear) but I reckon we can do it! Here's hoping as I would love an extra 3 months at home with Earl.....the exciting bit starts just as I was going to have to leave him and I got myself in a right tizz the other night as I really didn't want to leave him. I cried when hubby went to take him up to bed as I didn't want to beparted from him and ended up giving him the bath myself as I just couldn't calm myself down. :dohh:

Last thing...Earl's nearly grown out of his baby bath! I reckon another couple of weeks left in it, so I'm going to have to get one of those bath supports to go in the bath. I was kind of hoping that he would go another couple of months then I could just get a bath seat but no such luck!:dohh:

Anyhoo's...I'm off to go put the pie in the oven and take some nurofen.....hoping this toothache will be gone by the time it's cooked!
Have a nice evening everyone and I hope we're all going on strong! :hugs:

Aimee ~ We got about 2/3 inches in backwards land . . . but I want more!! (So OH can have a snow day tomorrow!) It's snowed all day but it was tiny flakes so has taken ages to build up. It has stopped snowing at the min so it has between now and 1.15am to snow more! lol

What kind of book did you get / where from? I have a weening book but it's not baby led weening which I am keen on doing.

I know what you mean about being really upset to leave LO. I really wish I could come up with a plan to stay at home with Chloe more. I am so mad about my maternity entitlement. I know I should be greatful I have a job in this climate though. I know it's only one day at week at the beginning but my first day back is 18th of Jan - THIS MONTH! :growlmad: Full time in March, she will only be about 6 months. I just really really want to be at home with her, I wish it had worked out better than this. We have a childminder booked for her and she is really nice, but it doesn't take away the fact that I want to be there and do things for her! To see her new milestones. For example I am on about baby led weaning, well I want to start around 6 months . . . she will be full time at the Childminders then so under my instruction she will do the weaning so basically I miss out. Let alone, play, speach, crawling and walking. I will most prob get that all 2nd hand now, plus I am scared we will loose the bond that has been made:cry: I will end up having about 4hrs a day with my daughter! OK I really have to stop otherwise I am going to cry again. My darn stupid brain not finding a solution!

LK ~ Thats good :flower:

OK best finish making bottles and drag my sorry butt up to bed! Night all x

Kte - It's 'Baby Led Weaning' by Gill Rapley. I got it for £9.50 off ebay and I've just finished it. It's well worth it and explains it all so well. I would recommend you get it....all the BLW girls in the weaning forums recommend it. I've got all the equipment I need for puree's just in case but they can all be used for BLW in some way too. Just need to get a highchair sorted and we're good to go whenever he is!

I know what you mean about missing out. We're working hard so that Earl wont have to go to childcare for the majority of the time as hubby will be at Uni so he will have a maximum of 2 days a week in a creche/childminders. TBH if it was any more we couldn't afford it anyway. Hubby is really looking forward to being a full time dad too which I know Earl will love!! Mummies may be good for food...but Daddies are much more fun. I found that out the hard way this afternoon. We were building the snowman this afternoon and when I complained I was cold and asked if I could go in I got a very stern...'No! You're having fun!' lol

Btw...here's a proper picture of said snowman! He's since been snowed on more and looks quite scary in the garden!

Hey, don't get on here much now as never seem to have much time but great to hear how well the bumpkins are all doing. Rachel's colic seems to have gone (fingers crossed) so life a lot happier in our house in the evenings!!

Can you believe that this time last year the bumpkins were being conceived?? Scary how quick time has gone....

Well we have had great fun here this morning. Had loads of snow overnight so we were out in it this morning. James was in his Bumbo watching me and my brother build a snowman...and fell asleep lol so I had to put him in his pushchair in the house to have a nap. Took pics of the snowman but I don't have my cable to will have to wait til I get home to take pictures as we are at my parents in Bristol for a few days.

For some reason when we are here James hates having his bath. Every time I bath him at my parents house he screams and screams the whole time he is being bathed and dressed. Seriously if someone came into the house they would think I was murdering him or hadn't fed him for days!

Afternoon All...

OH is busy fitting the new lights in the bath room, gonna be rather strange having a bath in the light rather than it being almost in the dark... 6 halogens are gonna be so much brighter than 1 normal...

Its another snow day, DS is fed up too... so much for the kids loving snow days... A1 and A66 were both closed this morning, thought about going to my parents, decided it can wait until Friday... DS might be at school by then...

Wicked snowman, Aimee-Lou :)

I'm doing some work. It feels wrong with me in the office (I mean our office at home) while OH is doing full-time Daddy stuff. But I got offered some work and OH didn't, and somebody needs to pay the bills, so I said yes. Already today, when OH brought Monty upstairs for a feed, I felt like Monty had more time for Daddy than for me. It was weird (and sad) - Monty refused, and I really do mean refused, to make any eye contact with me. Has anybody else experienced this? It brought a few tears to my eyes. Daddy told me that I was imagining things and then whisked him away for a walk. We always planned to share childcare between the pair of us, as we're both self-employed and so can split work/childcare. But it feels odd. But then really there's no reason why it should always be Daddy who works and Mummy who does all the childcare, and it's defo better this way than Monty going to a childminder or nursery or something (better for us I mean - I don't mean to pass judgement on anybody else's choices). But it still feels a bit wrong. Anybody else doing things this way? xx
