Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Noah hasn't been settling at all due to wind. He is struggling to be lied down at night, but settles during the day. I'm hoping the infacol will help with night sleeps.

Noah generally feeds every 3 hours. He has hungry days where some feeds re only every 2 hours and times when he'll go over 4 hours. I'm just feeding on demand as this seems to suit him and we are trying to get the weight back on.

Well, after his bottle at 11pm, I put Brady into bed with me, and he slept through until 4am! This is the longest that he's slept ever bless him. Being single has some merits, he had a whole side of the bed, I made sure none of the duvet could cover him and I rubbed his tummy when he was unsettled and he just held my hand for ages. We both got up at 9:30 much happier than yesterday :)

I've ordered a snugglenest as well as I think it will be safer

that sounds good Dom :)

Harry had a good sleep from 10pm till 3:30am, but was soooo unsettled from that point on & seemed to be in serious pain. I burst into tears as I was feeding him, because nothing seemed to be helping him & he kept looking right into my eyes as if to say 'please help me mummy!' OH was fantastic, got straight on the inet & looked up ways to relieve wind & constipation & we managed to get him settled & asleep again by 5:30am.... He woke again at 6:45, with a screaming cry I've never heard him do before. Really shook me. We sat & massaged his tummy & bicycled his legs for 45minutes, then his bowels literally exploded!!!! I have never seen so much poo in my life!!!! It was freaking everywhere, all up his back, all over his sleepsuit, down his legs. I felt so bad for him, because he must've been in so much pain with all that bunged up inside him & I swear to god, the minute he was cleaned up & put in a new nappy & sleepsuit, he was like a different child. Completely chilled, holding daddy's finger, amking funny little faces & cute noises.... I was soooo relieved that I cried again, lol.
He's been a little star so far today and has done another ma-husive poo, so he must be feeling tons better. He hasn't cried at all yet & is just chilling in the chair staring at me & yawning in his little skeleton sleepsuit :)
I really hope he'll be okay now & wont get like thisn too often; dont think I could cope!

Hope everyone else is ok.

Happy Halloween! :) :) :)

I uploaded a couple of pics of Harry in his little outfit, for those of you who're bored & dont mind looking, lol. https://www.babyandbump.com/photo-gallery/214182-harry-his-halloween-outfit.html#post3446998

Aww jo thats adorable.

I feel absolutely pants today. Woke up at 8.30am with the most god awful headache and took some paracetamol and ibuprofen. Helped for a little while but its back with avengance. Desperately want to go sleep it off before it turns into a full blown migraine but James is fidgeting for a feed cos he threw up most of his 12.30 feed after being put in his pram to go to the shops. Have got him in his vibrating bouncer for now to get him to sleep cos he is like his mummy and hates being sick. But he isn't going to be long before he is wanting food. Just hoping OH gets home on his break soon and I might be able to grab a nap. Had my old housemate here til about half an hour ago so couldn't have a nap then and havn't even managed any housework :(

Anyone heard from Chaos recently? I guess she must be really busy with Autumn & her her relatives visiting her, lol. :)

How's everyone doing?
Dom: I've been giving Harry infacol before his 'boobie feeds' just at night time, and that seems to be working fine for him at the moment. During the day I have more time to wind him properly, so I'm not giving it during the day just yet, as he seems ok without it, but at night, he can scream like a girlish cat-thing & it goes right through you and I get paranoid the neighbours will complain, so the infacol definitely is helping him bring the wind up quicker, which in turn helps him settle back to sleep quicker too.

I had a manic day of looking at houses yesterday. Found 1 we really like & that doesn't need much work doing to it either, which is a bonus. Also got offered mortgages everywhere we went coz of the inheritance my OH received on monday (at last, lol) that we're using as our deposit- each of the mortgage people were like, 'wow, yeah, we can give you a mortgage!!!!' was kinda funny how differently banks treat you when they suddenly realise you have some money.... *grrrrr*
And Harry, at 3 weeks 3 days old is now officially richer than me (and we only opened his savings this last week, lol) and my OH's ridiculous mother has already bought him 2 shetland ponies called wallace & Grommit for when he's bigger!!!!!!!!! (what the hell does a 3 week old need with 2 horses I ask????!!!!)

I have a few questions for you ladies:
How often do your LOs wake at night? I feed Harry at 10pm ish, when we go to bed, then he usually wakes anywhere between 2 & 5 for another feed, then again when my OH gets up for work (noisy git!) at about 7:30am. I worry I should be feeding him more often than this, or is this ok? I totally forgot to ask the HV/MW on monday, lol.
Do your LOs suffer from hiccups at all? Harry gets 2-3 bouts of hiccups a day & sometimes they shound soooo painful. He doesn't cry from them, but the look on his little face breaks my heart as he looks so upset & shocked & like he's hurting from them... Nothing I seem to do for him helps them go away & they can last up to 30minutes sometimes. Is this normal or should I be worried?
Finally, anyone else's babies go cross-eyed sometimes when they try to look at things close up? I'm sure it's normal, but just wanted to check & make sure Harry isn't weird or anything, lol.

Anyways..... Oh, actually, another Q: at what age do babies smile? (not from wind, but a proper smile) Harry smiles from wind quite a lot, but i'm curious as to when is average for him to do it by choice as a happy reaction to something?????

I managed to get a cute little pic of him when he was having cuddles with daddy the other night after I'd fed him. When I look at it, I melt, lol.

I'm around, am shattered from having a 7 and 10 year old around the house at the same time as a new born. They go home tomorrow so I should be able to get back to some sort of normality!

Re wind, I was looking at the gas drops and really did not like the ingredients in them .. including alcohol. I went with gripe water. 2.5 mls after a feed. It works really well with the burps.

Re waking at night. The pediatrician told us to just let the baby wake us up at night as she needs it. Last night she went from 7pm and didn't wake up till 1am, then she woke up at 4am and them 830am. Most nights its 9pm, 1am, 4am, 7am. The pediatrician said during the day, keep her to the 3 or 4 hour schedule so she starts to learn the difference between day/night feeds. I was worried like you, that I should be waking her up every 3 hours during the night, but the Dr said, shes proving she gains weight well, so its ok to let her on demand at night. She's gone from 8lb 1oz at birth to 9lb 13 oz yesterday. She was 4 weeks old yesterday :)

Re hiccups, Autumn gets them like 45332 times a day lol. She was like that when she was in me also. Sometimes they last minutes, sometimes they last about 30.

Re cross eyes, thats perfectly normal. They can only focus 8 to 12 inches at the moment and do not have much control over their eye muscles, that comes later. Cross eyes when focusing can last up to 3 months.

Re smiling, Autumn has been smiling from the day she was born. She even laughs in her sleep. That is more to do with farts tho haha. The last week she's started "proper smiling" as in, when she's interacting with people and you talk to her rather than .. "Smile" *Fart* ;)

She's also holding her head up by her self now!! :)

Ok gotta scoot, taking the boys to a "Maize Maze" .. that should be .. interesting lol.

I can't wait till I have my time back to my self again :)

awww, great to hear from you Chaos & thanks for reassuring me, lol. I'm such a paranoid 1st time mum! :dohh: Hope you get some rest once your relatives are gone. And Happy 4 weeks to Autumn! :)

LittleKitten: are you breastfeeding? If so, the headaches could possibly be from dehydration? My MW said everytime I feed Harry, I should drink at least 500ml of liquid myself too to stay hydrated & also to keep milk supply up. (or something like that... I was tired & a bit out of it when she was telling me stuff, lol) Hope you feel better soon.

Jo79: Sam really is adorable! I love all the little Halloween outfits on sale this year- some sexy lil babies out there, lol!

Harry's still doing good today, so his squinnying from yesterday must've been due t pain from his tummy. He's been really interactive today making all kindsa funny little noises & stroking his cheeks & poking his nose, ears & pulling his own hair, lol. Bless him. I ove how every silly thing he does just makes me smile. I cant wait till Oh gets home & sees him in his halloween sleepsuit :)

Helloooooooo! I finally made it over to the other side:happydance: Just got home from hospital and hetting my stitches removed tomorrow, yikes:wacko: How's everyone doing? xx

Flora - no im not breastfeeding anymore. Was on meds before I got pregnant to stop me getting so many migraines so wondering whether I will have to go back on them :(

hey everyone, I just found this thread too. Great that there's a follow on place for us all to compare notes on our little ones. Jacob is 4 weeks old today, he was 7lb 2.5 and 56cms at birth. health visitor weighed him on 'thursday and he was 10lb on the button!!! Scary how fast he is growing. he's taking between 2.5-4oz at feeds but today he has drained a couple of 4oz bottles so thinking of moving him onto 5oz but scared that he will gain too much weight too quickly - but I guess if he needs it we have to give it to him, he is a tall boy after all too. Just longing for the night when he sleeps for more than 3 hours as I am so knackered as he doesn't settle for ages after a feed.

Hey craftymum :) Meant to ask you on facebook, but forgot, has your hyperemesis completely gone now? Hope you're feeling tons better. Sounds like Jacob's doing really well :)

Hey hey everyone.....just checking in.

Just had the first of the grandparents visits and I've been totally overcome by people's generosity! Got so many clothes in all sizes up to 12 months. Handmade quilts, pictures, blankets etc from everyone - even people who are just acquaintances (MIL's next door neighbour for example). I was in tears as the presents just kept on coming. I'm going to be writing thank you cards all week! lol

Earl is doing well - we have a routine now of sorts. Everything has to be done in blocks of 2-3 hours lol....but we can handle that! He's absolutely shattered now as Nonnie and Grandad were so exciting he didn't sleep at all the whole 2 hours they were here! lol I fed him at 7 when they left and he still hasn't woken up!:baby: Sleepy Baby!

Hope we're all ok. Can't believe that this time last week I was in labour! life has changed so much in the last week and yet it all seems so good! :cloud9: Day of leisure tomorrow - Daddy has to bottle his homebrew and Mummy has some resting up to do. May have to get my sewing out as I never quite finished it......plus I have his name to put onto it!

Good evening everyone.....will be on tomorrow I'm sure! :hugs: I'm off to make a cuppa before it's time for bed for all 4 of us (even to dog is yawning! lol) :coffee:

me and oh finally had "witwoo" today after days of begging from OH lol.. it was completely [cant spell] fine! didnt feel any diffrent! i was sooo scared i was shaking and felt like a virgin all over again lol! Dex went into his big boys bed yday hes now in his cot and i dont think he likes it too much lol =[

Think its going to be a long night. James has been really unsettled since 6.30. He took 1.5oz and went to sleep for a little while but then woke properly at 8.10 and took another 3oz. Since then the only way I've managed to settle him is to rock him. He hasnt had a poo since 6am so I'm wondering if that is the problem. Just making up his feeds for the night and then I'm off to bed with a book to be a bad mummy and let him sleep on my chest for a bit. Night ladies.

Hope everyone had a good halloween :)

dom85- Glad to hear that you and Brady had a better night with co-sleeping. I swore I wouldn't do it before Emma arrived but have found that it's my secret "soothing" weapon on the really bad nights :) The snugglenest looks cool.

Florabean and jo_79- sweet pics of your babies. I love the halloween costumes! We didn't have a single kid come to the door tonight trick or treating- lots of candy left for me now!

Chaos- that is a precious pic of Autumn for your avatar! Emma does the laughing in her sleep too- a little girly giggle. Can't wait for her to start doing the giggle when she's awake :) Enjoy getting the house back to yourselves too.

littlekitten8- hope James settles for you.

Congrats harmonybunny and aimee-lou on bringing your babies home :)

Well, time to turn my attention back to the halloween horror movie my OH is insisting we watch and load our halloween baby pics to the computer if Emma stays asleep long enough... Hope all our babies have a calm, restful night!

Well done you lol........ I know it may sound odd but I'm really looking forward to 'that time'. Just wish we knew when 'that time' will be as I have no idea how well I'm healing (all damage internal you see!)......kind of hoping that we'll be back to normal ASAP as it's our 3 year anniversary on the 11th......Wishful thinking me-thinks lol :dohh::blush:

Morning girls, boys and mums

Well my little minxy is a star... She only woke once in the night and then went 5 hours ,.. she is only now having her morning bottle bless her x I think the trick was making her 2 evening feeds 5oz's each... Her normal daytime feeds are 4oz so i think that extra bit helped her sleep a little longer.

I had some 'Proper' smiles off her yesterday although she has smiled a few tiny ones before.. and Si also laughs in her sleep... its like a proper belly laugh and she smiles whilst doing it... Very cute it is :D

I hope all is well for everyone... Catch you all soon xxx

Well I finally managed to settle James at 11.10pm! No thanks to the idiots who were standing outside my door for hours (there was a party upstairs and they were outside smoking) shouting and screaming to their friends. OH got home from work at 12.30 and there were about 40 teenagers out there and broken beer bottles outside our door. I was so tired I had managed to nod off at 11.30 so I didn't hear them breaking bottles.

What a horrid day! Its absolutely pouring down here and cold. Was going to take James for a walk in his pram but not going to be doing that now. Going christmas shopping tomorrow though so that should be fun and will involve hours of being out lol.

Amiee: i was damaged all inside too hun! had a 2nd degree tear, but i refused to have it stitched [for some mad reason, sounded fine at the time!] and i didnt think id healed properly but made OH look yday and he said it looked fine, and obv felt fine lol and that was 4 weeks postbirth!, with DD we had to wait 3months as i had an episiotomy and my stitches came undone and had an infection =[

I am so not letting my OH read this- he's begging for some nookie time too & I'm too scared so I told him I'm not done healing yet, even though I looked with the mirror & it all seems fine down there, lol. I'm making him wait for a while longer yet so I can psych myself up for it!!!!!! :dohh:
