Hey me again just wondering where you guys go to get things like pastry cutter, fondant smoothers, different size and shaped cake tins etc.
And also thought i'd share this you tube person i've just found who's made some lovely inventive cakes.

All right, made my lemon cake which is the 10" tier and have it in the fridge letting the buttercream go hard so I can do a 2nd layer then fondant it! Not even started on my 8" tier yet! Got all my flowers made though so they just need stuck on with glue later on!

ooo her cakes look lovely! Her fondant is so super smooth!

I got the bulk of mine online from www.craftcompany.co.uk the prices are really reasonable, you can get stuff on ebay too but be careful because its not always cheaper. Also hobbycraft is good if u have one near you. Good luck!

Yeah she says she uses a fondant smother little paddle things by the look of it and if there's air bubbles to pop them with pins.

Yeah I do that too but if your cake isn't totally flat then the fondant goes bumpy :( I hope I can get todays cakes smooth!

obviously only on tier and without the woman ontop.... what will i need to do this?? sorry for all the q's i'm a total novice!! also what can i do to make sre my cake isnt totally wonky on the top - every cake i bake is totally wonky  how doyou all do it?????????

sara

xxxxxxxx

omg that looks hard  I dunno how you'd get the fondant all diff colours

Get a cake leveler or just cut off the wonky bit so it's flat :D

OOoo it looks fun to make though!

On first glance I think I would mix the main colour for the fondant cut them into small squares then sort of mould it flatter with your fingers to get the not so perfect square look iykwim?

Then I would just pipe on all the different dots and stripes. If you don't want to buy piping nozzles you can buy it all ready made in a tube .

Also you would probably have to work quite fast with the fondant so it doesn't dry out. I would mix up the different colours and wrap them in clingfilm and open to use a certain colour then wrap it back up quickly!

Let us know how you get on!

does it dry out that quickly ????????

Not super quick but because you will be doing alot of little fiddly bits I would wrap it inbetween!

Wow amazing thread didn't even know it existed until Kate told me! Just read through 46 pages :) There are a lot of talented people on here! Just wanted to post some of the stuff I made for Izzy's Christening:

It looks fab! I LOVE the sunflowers, I am going to try and get them on this birthday cake I am making, I will convince them it is a good idea!

It is an awesome first cake doll!

Hi everyone. Sorry, haven't had time to read all the posts on here yet but the cakes I have seen so far look amazing!! I want to make Poppy's 1st birthday cake and was hoping to cheat a little and find a '1' shaped cake tin but they are hard to find (and expensive!)
And tips on how I can (easily) make a nice 1 shape!? I have baked cakes before but tend to make brownies and cheesecakes. Would like to just make a simple Vic sponge for Poppy.
Also any one have a nice fail safe recipe for a lovley light sponge?!

Thanks ladies
xx

Don't put yourself down Blah that looks amazing especially for a first attempt i'd of never have guessed looks like you've been doing it for years. God you guys are going to laugh at my first attempt, going down to wales this weekend and then packing to go on hols next week so i'll have to start when we get back in september. Can't wait to properly get stuck in! Keep up the good work girls. :) :) :)
