great cake TJG! Truely a piece of art!

Those cupcakes look good. What frosting do people use?
cos Betty crockers is flopping and melting and going flat on me!
How can I tackle this problem? mix in more dry icing sugar? HELP!

my favourite cupcake flavour is: Bounty/coconut
my favourite dessert (that isnt cake!) is: hmmm mainly cakes but I'll go for vanilla slices

Jo, who do those wedding cakes belong to? They are stunning! and one of them is in front of wallpaper that looks like Traceys!

the hearts on the board is easy! I need to stop it cos ive done it the last 3 cakes! LOL!

You just cover the board as normal, use whatever cutter, cut them out, then cut out the same in different colour and replace them.

Then roll over the fondant again

hey thats a good idea.. I may try that on my first iced board cake (one day)

made this cake (first ever!!!) gave it to MIL.. and she says shes eaten half of it already!!! haha.. it was sponge and apricot inside with betty crocker choc frosting

It was my first attempt at a large rose too! thre bee is crap tho.. lol

(and my fiver stand from morrissons! ) lol

but... pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease someone answer my floppy fondant/icing problem.. its doing my head in!!!! I cant put these out on the day and by the time we get to the venue after the church they'll look like shite! :(

the betty crocker frosting was room temp.. so if I work with it cold.. out the fridge, will it sit up and more importantly stay up and peaked? or do I add dry icing sugar first?
how do all yours look and stay so perfect?

I buy my fondant, and its better to crumb coat your sponge cake with butter cream or jam for fruit before icing. Makes it smoother etc - youtube is great for tutorials x

PS TJG, that sweetie cake is gorgeous!! I want one!! How did you get the 'Nicole' sign to stand up??? xx

Tsia - is it the betty crocker frosting you are using or the butter cream style frosting? I've used both and usually can get them to peak, but I haven't tried the frosting one whilst it has been this warm and humid? But I find that the buttercream style one is better to use as it's a bit stiffer, I still haven't posted pics of last weeks, so i'll try and get on and post some later, they were using the buttercream style one. Also maybe try out of the fridge?

They look lovely.
As for the frosting/buttercream if you are wanting them to peak and go stiffish like mine and glittergirls, the betty crocker won't really work well as it is very soft, I only ever use the choc fudge one and it always looks softer than my own.

I'm not sure about GF but I use 600g Icing sugar, 200g creamcheese and 100g Butter ( polo's recipe on first page), you can then flavour it as you wish, it pipes really well and goes slightly hard on the outside, i've never had any lose there shape yet
:flower:

I'm doing some more today for Emily's class teacher I just though 6 vanilla and 6 Choc fudge, can't be pestered doing loads of different flavours and decs
I also had a request from my sister for 1 girly vanilla for her work mate, good job I'm making some today, how does she expet me to just make 1

I am going to use the extra vanilla ones I have to try out the stripy frosting like on the wilton (i think) site, where you stripe the bag

Q. If I mix two different colours of ready made fondant will it mix to make one colour or just give a marble effect??

Will try PPs recipe for buttercream, but dont laugh - whats creamcheese? is it cheese?? :haha:

Edit: Of course its cheese - seems odd putting cheese in a cake !! ha ha, having a peter kay moment!

cassandra if u want a marble effect only knead together slightly....if u want a solid colour, keep on going till its all one colour x

Yeah cassandra like philedelphia that sort of stuff although I use the cheap stuff as I use so much
