I've set myself up a spreadsheet with all my ingredients and prices on (quite easy when you can check prices online). I can then work out the exact cost of whatever amount of each item I need and work out my quote from there. I add on a guesstimate of the amount of time I need to make it and a little for utilities/petrol/delivery etc
ok i dont feel so bad now then i was going to do a 12'' cake and cupcakes for £40 person has now said its too expensive.. even thought that is alot cheaper than what the cake shop in town would charge and she is just gonna get a shop brought one... yeh.. thanks for that grrr
Oooohhh halloween baking..forgot to post mine..nowhere near as good as Glitters but I was pleased with them,I'm getting better each time.
Sorry abit blurry too,my battery on my camera died so had to take pic on my crap phone.
And heres the finished Mickey mouse cake and cupcakes! Ethan LOVED them! Infact,I got alot of positive comments! Thanks for all that helped by answering my many questions xxx
Can't believe someone thought £40 for a cake AND cuppies was too expensive! What planet are they on?! I usually charge £1.50 per cuppie (depending on how much work it needs) grrrr annoyed for you!!!!
Is anyone going to the Cake show in Birmingham (ICHF) in the next 3 days???? My Mum and I have decided to pop along on Saturday. Really really looking forward to it! My 30th Birthday is soon too and my Mum always says I'm hard to buy for so maybe I'll get to come home with some prezzies!!!
I was gonna go but got cake orders to start/finish and other bits getting in the way. Gutted to be honest, wanted to go You'll have to let us know what its like hun - ooo yeah lots of cakey gifts! xx
I used drinking straws, cut to the height of the bottom cake inserted through the bottom cake in and around the centre (but not outside of the size of the top cakes cake board - but you can but special dowels too.
Wow oh wow!!!!!!!!! I went to Cake International at the NEC today and my life am I feeling inspired! Some of the cakes were utterly awe inspiring! And the sugar flowers I wanted to touch them because I couldn't believe they weren't real. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be too many bargins on offer. I managed to pick up a DVD for £5 less than I've seen it anywhere else and I got a dimple mat for a couple of quid whereas I'd have had to pay £3.99 delivery from the only website I'd seen them on before. I also picked up 6 texture mats that I hadn't seen online before too.
I picked up some info on City and Guilds courses and the details of my local sugar guild group so I may decide to get a bit more serious about learning in the new year.
So glad I went today and will definitely be going again next year
wow I love the mickey cake... I'm not brave enough to attempt a shaped cake yet.
I've done a couple over the last month, a halloween anniversary cake and a music/guitar themed cake for bil., next up I've got to make serens peppa pig birthday cake and mils chocolate cake which will be 3 tiers and covered in just chocolate buttercream, no fondant andsome sugar flowers here and there.
I've got an order for a fireman sam birthday cake for january too. Can't wait
