Cake Making & Baking Group

Hehe I forgot about my fridge letters. It's a bit sad really as it did say "Mummy, Daddy, Amelia" But when Daddy moved out last week I changed it to what you can see in the photo.

The lakeland bag has a 1kg bag of icing sugar in it lol

I buy the 3kg bag of icing sugar in Sainsburys. I dropped one on the floor as they are in plastic bags it split and went everywhere. Kitchen was white.

I've just checked, it's the same as the one you had 3kg. That is the reason it's in a good tough bag as the ones they sell it in are useless!

Fantastic wedding cake and cupcakes!

I've got a few more cakes to do, got my friends lads one, then my friends daughters one and then my son's, all within a few weeks. My sil asked if I could do my niece one but I've had to say no to that one cos her b.day is 24th April but we go on holiday on the 16th..I can't make it and give her it that far in advance can I??

Anyways..first up is a pokemon pokeball, like this...

I don't have a football cake tin so will it work if I make 2 halfs in pyrex bowls and buttercream them together?

Also...how the heck am I gonna get my BC really red in colour?

Lots and lots and lots of red paste colouring. Taste it after each addition to make sure it still tastes good. Good luck! x

Just a silly question, as I have made dozens of cupcakes before. For some reason they always worked perfectly in Holland, but they turn out flat and overspilling in England! Different oven I guess...

How full do you fill your cases before sticking them in the oven? Atm my cases don't fit in the metal cupcake holder thing that you put in the oven, and if I bake without it they just go flat and I end up with cupcake cookies instead. Frustrated big time, will need to see if MIL has something that will hold my cases... but as I don't want to ruin even more attempts, I'm curious to see how full the cases 'should be' before getting baked.

Fantastic cake and cuppies Whoppy!!

Erised I always fill mine about a 3rd full and I use a muffin tin x

Get yourself a 12 whole muffin tin, that's what I use and the shape of the cupcakes come out really good. I had a fairy cake one and they didn't turn out as good as the wholes where not deep enough.

I use two desert spoons to fill the cases with mixture. Usually they are about 2/3rd's full for a really domed cupcake, about half mixture if you want a flatter topped cupcake. I suppose it's hit or miss but always write on your receipe how many you got and what the top was shaped like, so that you have something to go by on your next batch.

HTH

Yeah, definitely use a muffin tin instead. I have a cupcake and a muffin and I dont like my cupcake one.

The pics look a bit "smokey" think I need to clean my camera lens

I use a silicone muffin try and fill the cases about 2/3rds full x

Jo - the glitter on those cupakes looks amazing! Beautiful butterflies on the cakes too x

Jo they are lovely.. I want to get butterflies but I dont know where from!

Will see if I can borrow some muffin cases before I next head out to town, else I'll buy some. The cupcake / fairy cake ones are definitely too small.

Thanks ladies!!

Joy, they look amazing! Had seen them on Facebook already, but they're gorgeous =)

Yeah its terrible! But the way we make cakes its better than going down the shops every few days.. :haha: Could make the bag a bit better though

Colour it, cut them and leave them out to dry, I find it a good way to use up left over icing to store for later xx

Calling all cupcake queens....can anyone recommend me a nice deep cupcake box that holds 6 please? The ones I been looking at I'm not sure that once the cupcakes have been given swirly icing tops that they'll fit inside without the tops getting squashed. I'm making my friend a batch of minnie mouse cupcakes as a belated 30th birthday pressie (seeing her next week) xxx
