Slightly better pic of the wedding cake and cuppies. Bit of a wonky angle and a bit chopped off but better than my pics!

They look lovely, what a shame they chopped the stars off the top of the pic though!

MM - I meant to ask, what cake are you doing for Ella's bday? Just a normal sponge?

I went to the zoo at the weekend so thought I'd quickly make some cupcakes to take with the picnic. I did lemon sponge and used lemon curd to stick the fondant on. I decided fondant tops would be much easier to transport than buttercream! They were actually really pastel colours, but look really bright in the pic. I'm not happy with the decoration (looks a bit dated..) but it's all I had time to do. They were yummy!

The next cake I'm going to attempt will be for my best friend who's due to have her baby boy any day now. Just need to find some (simple) inspiration!

Cocoa- i like the cupcakes! They are simple but neat!! I bet they were yum!

I'm just going to do a chocolate cake for Ella's bday party :)

Lovely cuppies! I did some yesterday but I am at work so cant upload pics. I did chocolate orange.

After some tips girls...

I want to do a blossom cake for my Mum's birthday, very much like this one (single tier though):

https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=https://www.iceandaslicecakes.co.uk/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/.pond/ButterflyBlossom.jpg.w300h375.jpg&imgrefurl=https://www.iceandaslicecakes.co.uk/id3.html&h=375&w=300&sz=118&tbnid=78msOxzleTQnIM:&tbnh=251&tbnw=201&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dblossom%2Bcake&zoom=1&q=blossom+cake&hl=en&usg=__U7eg6m55-PKiZeTSloWKMVkwHV0=&sa=X&ei=TNBsTeq7PIyGhQeX7pyPDA&ved=0CB0Q9QEwAQ

But how do I get the blossoms to shape upwards like that? I've read that you can use empty egg boxes, but would the holes be too big?

When I was watching the Food Network Challenge they use a metal ball tool. Something like this

Then they left them to dry out a bit before sticking them on.

It did for me MM, looks gorgeous! =)
Are you doing something similar for Ellas birthday?

Another question for those cupcakers...
My Wilton 1M arrived yesterday, but there is simply no way it's going to fit my coupler. Do you use a bigger coupler, or just stick it in the bag without a coupler? My piping bags only arrived this morning, so I haven't tried it without yet. I did try it in a plastic bag with the corner cut off, and lets just say that you really really need a coupler when using one of them. Just wondering if it might be different with proper bags

All you need is a foam pad and a ball tool. Just cut out your blossom (use flowerpaste otherwise they won't hold their shape this way) then pop it on the foam and wiggle your ball tool in the middle of the flower. That's what I did on my cake;

Erised I just snip a hole in a disposable piping bag then drop my 1M into it. I've never used a coupler

Erised- similar to Ella's bday cake but will be doing spots on her cake :)

Whoppy-pop nice cake!!!! :D

Whoppy - yes your cake is exactly like the one I want to do, but maybe lilac or purple flowers. It's lovely! Will adding gum trag to fondant be ok for making the flowers? I'll pick one of those tools up somewhere, thankyou (and Laura!)

Erised - I just use a disposable piping bag, I got some wilton ones in the set I bought, cut a hole in the bottom and drop the tip in, no coupler needed x

You know, when messing about with my new piping set I've been using sandwich bags with the tip cut off as I didn't have my piping bags yet... I just realised I have disposable piping bags I could have used! *sigh*

Thanks ladies, will give it a try later on today! =)

Ebay have them. I just ordered myself one along with some cutters.

Yeah you can add the gum trag but I'd leave it wrapped in cling film at least over night to toughen up your fondant. If you can use flowerpaste it'd be easier as it's much more elastic, you can roll it thinner and when you use the ball tool you'll have less chance of just tearing it x

all looking yummy as ever girls! I havent made anything since Valentines day cupcake wise.. my buggy covers page on facebook is getting quite busy! .. I think I need some cake baking therapy! lol

For the sponge you can just use a bsic recipe, whatever you prefer, though my recipe was a happy accident LOL
1 Egg
100g each of flour, sugar and butter, make betwwen 6-9 depending on your cases, I also add a table spoon of milk and teaspoon of vanilla extract.

For my butter cream I use Holly's recipe from page 1
100g butter
200g cream cheese

600g icing sugar

For the ones her I just coloured 1/2 of the mixture and spread it out, then I used my Huge star nozzle, similar to Wilton 1M to pipe the bit on the top.
I made the butterflies a few days before from roll out icing and left to dry, just added them at the very last minute so they didn't wilt. xx

I'm going to order some flower paste - I think I'm better off working with the proper stuff as I'm a beginner! I still want to colour it myself though, how much flower paste would you say you used for your blossom cake? I'm notoriously tight when I guesstimate, and I'm always scared that I won't colour enough!

I've also been looking at stand mixers :cloud9: I'm going back to work full time next month (I wanted part-time but it's not an option at the moment) I'd quite like to treat myself and I figure a mixer will actually save me time... that's what I'm telling myself anyway :haha:
I love the look of the KitchenAids, but they're far too pricey. I quite like the Kenwood Kmix though, it's got really good reviews, looks funky and you can pick them up for around £250. Going to have a perve at some in the shops tomorrow.
