I found them quite easy, but I had done a lot of research cause I'd heard they can be an arse so I used a lot of cornflower and rolled the fondant really thin.

Got to start my little ladies cake today, once we get back home after our weekend away :)

Midori, the best thing to do with the tappits is to roll the icing thin enough and then leave it for 10 or so minutes it will then become a bit harder and when you bang the letter out it will keep its shape so much better, this is how I do it. I have all the tappits, lower case, upper case, funky, large number, small numbers and they all work pretty much the same. So much easier.

Buttercream is frosting as such but it really depends on the butter you use. Tesco and Lurpak are what I use, you honestly can tell the difference because Lurpak will give you a lovely smooth thick buttercream and the Tesco will give you a smooth but lighter buttercream it also depends on how long you beat the butter beforehand to how you want it to be, add more icing if its really light and fluffy or add some vanilla, I agree with Midori always buy a good quality Vanilla extract and make sure its extract and not flavouring. I don't tend to use it in my cake batter but I sometimes add it to buttercream.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I did with the men's accessories tappits, rolled it out really thin and then left it for five or ten minutes. I used a bit of tylose in the sugarpaste too. I'm gutted as I ordered on Monday and forgot about the bank holiday as it wasn't one here in Scotland, so it won't all be here until tomorrow.

I think I am going to set up a facebook page for my cakes, even though I am not a business yet. (too nervous/not confident enough yet) I have no idea what to call it, but any suggestions appreciated! I want something that sounds fairly professional, so if I do want to become a business at some point, I can keep the same name. Any ideas? I am rubbish at things like that.

Not finished editing the smash pictures yet, but learnt a hard lesson last night - don't give a 1 year old a rainbow cake before bed :dohh:

Here are my weekend's efforts. I shouldn't have agreed to do the Cinderella one really. The woman was let down by someone else and I don't like turning cakes down, so I did it. I wanted to model the head and body myself, but although I started it, it was taking too long, so I cheated and bought a doll. I won't do so many in a weekdn again, it was almost non stop and there are a few things I'm not happy with, most notably the fact that when I got the communion cake to the venue there was a big air bubble on the top. I'm not sure if the people it was for noticed, but if they did they didn't say anything, except they absolutely loved it and the cupcakes and it exceeded their expectations. Phew! :haha:

Hi everyone, I have come here looking for asome advice pretty please,

I would love to bake my daughters 2nd birthday cake and decorate it, etc, but i really don't have a baking bone in my body, and I have never made a cake :( let alone iced/decorated one.

I am looking for basic recipies for cakes, Maybe some cake ideas you have made, that would be simple for me to do, and how to do it all.

Her birthday isnt until August, so I have time for a few dry runs :)

    Thanks :flower:

Also if you ahve any ideas, tips for me, I would be so grateful x
