Wow your cakes are brilliant NuttyMummy, what a talent :)

Could i have the recipe for the Mars bar melts and the chocolate orange cupcakes possibly? They sound like something my Dad would love! xxx

awww thanks glitterfairy!
they are very simple....mars bar ones, is your favourite choc sponge recipe, with cut up pieces of mars bar inside, vanilla buttercream, a minstrel n crunchy balls

orange ones are...again ur fav choc recipe, broken up pieces of dark chocolate (cointreau OR orange juice) chocolate buttercream with orange juice...and grated orange zest for the top! :)

georgie...ive seen those cakes before...cute arent they! i have to make a big cupcake one for my bro (but a black forest gateau one!)

Do you keep the bits of mars bar as small chunks in the mixture or whisk them into the mixture?
They sound yummy,might have a go.Thankyou xxx

yup yup!! i still come on bnb now and again...but always forget to come in here!! LOL

glitterfairy....put the mixture into the cases, then cut up mars bar and push some into the centre before putting them in the oven x

Well got my cake tin and ingredients now :) Going to make the cake tonight when kids go to bed (well a trial cake!) and have OH test it tonight then make the cake tomorrow

Anyone got any tips on the icing? I have it here and its in a block but it seems really solid lol, this will sound stupid but how to I 'soften' it so I can roll it, also how thin do you roll it? xx

hiya!

if its in a block, it sometimes easier to break it into half...or even quarters and knead it till it becomes soft....it will seem really hard at first but keep going at it and it will become soft....also, leave it somewhere at room temperature

if its REALLY solid and u cant knead it, pop it into the microwave for a few seconds....and i mean seconds!! it shouldnt feel warm when you get it out....if it gets too warm u might end up with sticky gloop that starts to crust!

good luck!! xx

Thank you hunni!

Don't think the cakes gone too well  I read the recipe wrong :dohh:

I weighed 6 eggs then put the exact same amount of flour sugar and butter in LOL instead of dividing the weight between all three LOL x

lol.

i use 3 eggs...
and 175g of sugar, 175g flour (SR) 175g marg.

if u weigh 3 eggs youll find it near enough ends up being 175g

try again...im sure it will be fine!! also dont have ur oven too high n dont open the oven too early or else it will sink in the middle xx

I think Ill definately do the 3 eggs thing this time!! Haha! Its cooked on the top but it 'wiggles' in the middle  xx

tracey your cakes are amazing, i told u on fb , that cherry one :cloud9:

ive decided what im doing for alex's birthday cake! :happydance:

aww thanks snowball!

you may have put too much mixture in your tin,and have it on too high?

what size tin are you using?

i bake at 140-160 and use the 3 egg mixture in a 8" tin (youll need to make two of them)
bake it for about an hour...dont open the door till at least 45 mins x

Well first cake is done and it looks lovely! :D Not sure how it tastes dont really want to sit and pick at it lol. I also need to go get some more butter  xx

brill! well done! x

keep practicing and youll b able to make your own wedding cake! lol

Its lovely and moist mmmmm definately will have to make another one

Think I'll do the icing tomorrow xx
