Cake Making & Baking Group

I definitely don't belong in here with you talented ladies but I wanted to make a cake for Aisling's first birthday :D I was thinking of a princess castle or something and wondered if there's a good website you'd recommend with instructions for the baking and icing? It'd need to be a bit basic as I certainly don't know a thing about icing! Thanks ladies xxx

thanks pink!
The video makes in look so simple!
fX maybe ill get it one day

soon :haha: xxxx

Leanne i'm soooooo jealous.I would love some of those cases.I think i need to find a supplier!

jacs its buttercream with food colouring of your choice x

Lu28 i love this site for ideas https://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/castle-birthday-cakes.html I used to do a simple recipe where you do a square cake and use ice cream cones for spires with sweets for windows and choc fingers for a drawbridge and blue dessicated coconut for water in the moat x

you can make towers out of a swiss roll with fondant too!

Well its gone to where its going

The little boy LOVED it, didnt want to cut it, but it was my most disapointing cake yet, maybe its because I dont really like Ben10!

Ok so.............before pic.....

My 5 year old just saw that cake and said 'Wow COOL!' :)

Going to have a go at chocolate cupcakes and mint chocolate ones tomorrow.Hope they turn out well!

i dont see anything wrong with that cake andrea??

and...NEC cake show....are u KIDDING!!! its like elbow to elbow with people in that place LOL they just push n push...soooooo annoying!!!

dunno, it just didnt seem to go or look right!

Do any of you have bother with grey icing? Thats twice I've made up some grey and both have cracked!

I was blaming OH for turning the heating up but I dont think it's that!

yeah hun...grey cracks REAL easy!! i use it all the time for the tatty teddy models you have to use it really quick...but when covering cakes it seems to crack instantly on the edges of the cake....its awful isnt it when it does that!?

Oh thank god its not just me!! I just hope nobody wants a dolphin or something!

Tracey, I just recommened you to a girl on my FB, hope you dont mind.
She was asking if I could post cakes, but she is only about 35 miles from you so that would probably be easier!

aww thanks hun!

yeah not quite sure how i stopped the grey from cracking...i dont think ive ever covered a round/square cake in grey...i covered a trash can in it though for the oscar and it seemed to be ok....try adding a little bit of trex?? might make it shiny but i think it would hydrate it abit?

it weird cos if you keep going, turning it black its fine like that! Just when you make grey!

I am hoping I wont have to use it again anytime soon!

So whats everyones next cakes?

I am doing a HUGE disco dance floor cake for a guys 40th on Friday, I am really nervous now after the Ben10 disaster!
Have already been told that it will generate more orders, which make me even more nervous!

Does this panic ever go away the more experienced you get?! I think I may end up in an early grave if I carry on like this!

OK so i made my first ever REAL cake with icing and everything i know its crap compared to all yours but its not bad for my first ever attempt! i just need some help on what to do to perfect it!
