An old friend from school give's her 6 month old calpol EVERY night to get her to go to sleep :growlmad: :nope: I really do not agree with this, it's wrong her LO should go to sleep naturally not with the help of medicine :dohh: don't get me wrong I give Evie calpol, it's a life saver when her gums are hurting. but I will only give it her if I think she really need's it! And this girl let her friend give her LO syrup when she was 4 months old :growlmad:

Just needed to get that off my chest!

Every night???? That's a bit OTT I think. I give Stephen Calpol, but like you, only when I thnk he really needs it.

How does it get her to sleep? I thought Calpol was just a pain killer, doesn't contain any sedative or anything like that?

Thats a bit pointless really. Its just the same as taking 2 paracetamol. It will not help LO sleep unless the reason she can't sleep is cos she is in pain.

Exactly.... it's only Paracetamol!!! :dohh: Since when has Paracetamol made anyone sleep?! The only way it would in theory is if you are in pain, and it takes the pain away so that you can sleep? FFS.... why do people do silly things like this?

Tbh, I'm not sure how it gets the LO to sleep but she does, normally i just leave her to it, it is her LO after all, but I think it's unfair on the LO to have to have calpol every night >_<

It doesn't make babies drowsy/sleepy at all! It's only a paracetamol, no sedative in it any more. Apparantly they took the sedative out of it years ago for this very reason. I think giving it every night even if her baby doesn't need it is really stupid and irresponsible and it's probably not going to help her baby when he/she REALLY does need it for a temperature or teething :nope:

It does say something on the packaging about not giving it more than 3 days in a row, I think. Or maybe that's Calprofen? Can't remember.

I know my mom used to give me and my siblings something called Novahistine DH (it was like a cough syrup) every night to knock us out. I'm sure she was just following (bad) advice from my Nan though, hehe.

Calpol makes Hannah hyper, and that's the sugar free one! Poor baby :(

Poor baby will end up with liver failure in later life if she carries on abusing paracetamol :nope:

We are giving it to him every night at the moment! Only because the poor chap is cutting 4 molars at the same time...

Charlie's having it every other night at the moment too as he's cutting his bottom molars, but at least it's actually helping ease the pain - Why give it if your LO isn't in any pain or needing it? I don't get these people??

Like someone else said on the bottle it says do not give for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor.
I hope her LO doesn't need it soon then for a temperature or actual pain because I would imagine it wouldn't help.

It is so irresponsible if she is using it to get her too sleep. The baby will become dependant on it.

She could be causing irreversible liver and kidney damage if she hasn't already. It's really dangerous for babies, children, or adults to take paracetamol so regularly, and many people don't realise. That poor poor baby. I wonder if she knows its dangerous?

I think I would be tempted to have a word with her or make someone aware of it. I know it's her baby but like someone said it could be dangerous if given every night for a long period of time...
